Burns to give biblical perspective on pottery at Grace Methodist

Published Saturday, June 20, 2009

Natchez — Natchez artist Conner Burns will be talking about the biblical examples of pottery and how it applies to everyday life at from 10 to 11 a.m. on June 28 at Grace United Methodist Church in Natchez.

Burns will use biblical verses and his pottery wheel during the Sunday morning service at Grace Church as he illuminates the examples used in the Bible relating to pottery. Burns has presented in churches locally and nationally. The community is invited to attend this service at Grace Church.

Established in 1950, Grace United Methodist Church is a community of faith that, according to the congregation’s mission statement, strives to “take God’s love to all people.”

In addition to worship services, Grace Church offers Sunday school classes for all ages at 9 a.m., and a variety of Bible studies throughout the year.

Seasonal outreach opportunities include Relay for Life, Share Our Blessings, Vacation Bible School, and Lenten worship services.

Ongoing ministries at Grace include the Men’s Club, United Methodist Women, the Child Development Center, which serves families throughout the community, and the recent addition of yoga classes.

Grace United Methodist Church looks forward to a deeper understanding of God as the potter through Burns’ presentation.

Burns is a local artist and gallery owner; his studio and gallery is located at 209 Franklin St. in downtown Natchez.

He makes clay vessels that are single fired and glazed with natural glazes that are subtle in both color and texture. His work is organic and his intent is to have each piece look as if it ‘grew that way’ rather than something that was made. Burns’s work is exhibited widely and is in collections across Europe, Asia and the United States.
