Meadville woman dies in car crash
Published Tuesday, June 23, 2009
MEADVILLE — A Meadville woman died Saturday in a car crash on U.S. 84 in Franklin County.
Mary A. Wilkinson, 71, 5470 U.S. 98 East, was traveling eastbound near Clear Springs at 11:32 p.m. when her 2004 Dodge Intrepid ran off the road to the right side.
Wilkinson reportedly overcorrected, driving back into the eastbound lane, then back to the right. Her vehicle flipped, coming to rest upside down, a Mississippi Highway Patrol press release said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Coroner Percy Peeler.
Passenger Lannis Wilkinson, 74, 5470 U.S. 98 East, sustained severe injuries and was transported by ambulance to Franklin County Hospital.
Both women were wearing seat belts and airbags did deploy.
Both had to be extracted from the vehicle, and the jaws of life were used.

My prayers are with everyone.
This is one of the reasons why I am so afraid to go off to college this Fall. I'll just be sure to leave early to avoid the dark and go 5 miles under the speed limit when I'm traveling home every couple of months!

Sympathy goes out to this family. May God continue to be with them. It was a tragic thing to happen. Someone has made a mistake. I don't think it was two women, from what I was told, it was a husband and wife. Mr. Wilkinson is reported to be in a hospital in Jackson.
Southernly 18, I can understand your fear. If you put God first everything will be alright. However, before you enter your vehicle to go anywhere, college, stores, or rights round the corner, pray. Ask the Lord to be with you. Good luck in the fall.

It was suppose to be a male in the article. Her husband Lanis Wilkinson. Sympathy to the family, she was a beautiful lady and will be greatly missed.

Yes this was an elderly couple. They were very good friends of ours. I am so very sorry for their family, I know this has to be very hard to handle something like this. I hope and pray that Mr. Lanis will be ok. I hate that Mrs. Mary Alice passed away, she was a beautiful and sweet person. I just can't believe this happend. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
