No arrest made in high-speed chase

NATCHEZ — No arrests have been made in relation to Thursday’s high-speed chase that stretched from Sicily Island, La., to Wilkinson County.
Sicily Island Police Chief Paul Jackson said the incident began at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday night when one of his officers attempted to pull over a speeding vehicle.
Jackson said the vehicle, either a Ford Crown Victoria or a Lincoln Continental, was traveling 75 mph in a 55 mph zone.
“And he did not pull over,” Jackson said of the driver.
Jackson’s officer reported a substance he believed to be marijuana was thrown from the vehicle shortly after the chase began.
From there the speeding vehicle, occupied by two white males and one white female, sped through Clayton into Ferriday then Vidalia and crossed the Mississippi River bridge into Natchez.
By then officers from Sicily Island, Ferriday, Vidalia and Concordia Parish were in the pursuit.
Jackson said the driver of the vehicle is thought to be Jonathan Pittman, a St. Francisville, La., resident to whom the vehicle in the chase is registered.
Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said his officers primarily blocked traffic in the city, for safety reasons, and only stayed in the pursuit until the county line.
Jackson said his officers reported speeds of up to 110 mph during the chase.
“That’s not what we typically see,” he said.
Jackson said the chase was called off near Woodville for safety reasons.
The driver’s whereabouts once the chase was called off is not yet known.
Woodville Police Chief James Forman said the vehicle did pass through Woodville.
“He must have turned off,” Forman said.
The Wilkinson County Sheriff could not be reached for comment.
In St. Francisville, West Feliciana Sheriff’s Deputy Sara Ferguson said her office is aware of the chase and will arrest Pittman if any warrants are issued for his arrest.
As of Friday, no warrants had been issued.
Forman said the convoy arrived near Woodville at approximately 11 p.m.

Whoa, even Barney Fife would have called Andy to help.
I always figured the radio was faster than a vehicle. I guess I will have to change my opinion on that.

Authorities did the right thing and no innocent bystander was killed/injured.
The owner of the vehicle will have some explaining to do even if it was not him/her!

Why chase if after awhile you are simply going to throw your hands up and say "I'm going home...screw this".

Woodville Police Chief James Forman said the vehicle did pass through Woodville.
“He must have turned off,” Forman said.
They must have meant "did not pass through" because he turned off somewhere.

Dukes of hazard (adams) county? This is just bad police work. Why hasn't there been a warrant issued and this guy picked up? What are they waiting for? Duh.

From what I have heard so far there is no evidence of exactly who the driver was, only the fact that the car was registered to someone in particular.
That's just a little legal complication for those screaming for blood.
One might suppose that if he was not running from a pot charge whoever would not have sped so much just to avoid a speeding ticket. And some folks say pot is not very dangerous? It is when you get law enforcement involved!

They know who the vehicle is registered to, but no arrest have been made yet. What kind of bull is that? I wonder what type of training they are reciveing at the academy now. I really do think if they wanted to catch him they could. Just another excuse not to do no more than they have to. What about the cameras that are suppose to be on traffic lights? I know they did not get all green lights.

Our state lawmakers voted to ban traffic cameras.

Owning a car does not convict one of being the driver. And I don't think they have a stump-cam on the road to Woodville. If they did have an eyewitness it would require his testimony to arrest.

Do they know for sure that the woman in the car was just along for the ride or did they kidnap her? This sounds like more than just pot.

Why didn't the police block the MS river bridge before he got into Mississippi.

I guess it was that continuous flow intersection that allowed them to get away.

WHAT !!???
GOT AWAY!!!???
SHOULD'VE SHOT THEIR TIRES OUT !!!
ALLOWING THEM TO TEAR THROUGH TWO PARISHES AND TWO COUNTIES AND ESCAPE IS UNACCEPTABLE
Please do not misunderstand me, I am a support of our LEO's , I think they should be allowed to use force as they see fit to apprehend dangerous suspects, and we are hamstringing our LEO's, that's why they are reluctant to use appropriate force- my opinion

I am really glad that no one was hurt! It dosen't seem to me as if there is any ongoing investigation into the matter. Seems that a registered owner should be accountable as to his or her vehicle. It would be a place to start, someone could have been hurt.
