What is this?
Mayfield is best man for sheriff
Published Friday, November 13, 2009
As a former International Paper Company employee, I’d like everyone to know why I’m casting my vote for Charles R. “Chuck” Mayfield for sheriff of Adams County, and respectfully ask you to vote for Chuck too.
Chuck, like lots of other folks in the Miss-Lou, is a second-generation IP’er. Chuck worked at the Forest Research Center on U.S. 61 North from 1978-1981. Both his mother and father, Bobbie and Charles Mayfield, retired from International Paper in the 80s
Bobbie Mayfield was the head nurse at IP’s Natchez mill, and Charles Mayfield was an auditor in the Woodlands Division. Although both of his parents are deceased, I know they would love it if you would cast your vote for their son as the next sheriff of Adams County.
We need people like Chuck Mayfield in leadership positions. He will be fair, honest and administer justice equally to all the citizens of Adams County. Chuck has pledged to:
4 Be a working sheriff involved in every aspect of his elected office.
4 Be accessible to the citizens of Adams county.
4 Foster a spirit of cooperation with all other agencies and departments.
4 Fight the scourge of drugs and gangs in our community.
4 Provide the most technologically advanced services to Adams County while keeping the cost to taxpayers as low as possible.
4 Beef up patrols and make a more visible presence countywide.
4 Promote a proactive community policing style of enforcement.
4 Staff and train deputies to be professional and always treat citizens with dignity and respect.
4Work to promote positive programs for the youth of our community.

I also hope that Chuck will pledge to teach deputies to shoot accurately. I hear that some of them can't even hit an incapacitated deer a few feet away.

"BIG_RED16" AND "RATIONAL", Maybe you should rethink your statement. It is clear that Ray Brown is the one stealing ideas. He's a good man, but not smart enough to come up with his own ideas and statements. You got all the votes you're going to get the first go around. CHUCK WILL GET PLENTY MORE AND BECOME THE NEXT SHERIFF OF ADAMS COUNTY. CHUCK, CHUCK, CHUCK, CHUCK.!!!!!

At a meeting at the Eola in September, Chuck was there and had the guts to question state legislators in public and in person whether or not they would support radar gun funding for the sheriff's department in Adams County and across the state.
Two of the four legislators, Sen. Bob Dearing and Rep. Sam Mims, said they definitely and responsibly would support funding to catch speeders and reckless drivers in the county, to save lives.
The other two, Rep. Robert L. Johnson 3 and Sen. Kelvin Butler, said that that they wouldn't support funding for radar guns in counties, that money was just too tight, and in effect that the arm of the law was too long in Adams County already.
Chuck Mayfield had the guts to call 'em out. (Adams County needs radar!) Chuck got up early and went to the function at 7:00 a.m. Chuck put the legislator's on record. Braced 'em!
Ray Brown didn't even bother to attend the meeting, a Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce Legislative Breakfast. Boy, that's leadership...

I love how Ray told Kiwanis that he was not as qualified as Chuck to be the sheriff, but would hire someone to do his job...I think Ray told us that Chuck is the best man for the job, so Chuck has my vote.

Again HillsideManor Ray did not say He was not qualified for the job. He is just as qualified as Chuck. The quote in the paper is totally wrong and they should re-tract their statement and print it right. If you are going to do things do them right. Some people rely on the ND for information and it should be given to them RIGHT.This is the ND trying to sway voters to change their minds. It won't work. When it is all said and done ND you will call the sheriff office and ask to speak to Sheriff Ray Brown. NOV.24,2009 VOTE RAY BROWN.ND you should be ashamed. Guess not you printed it
