Eola Hotel, Guest House, Prentiss Club sell in auction
Published Tuesday, November 17, 2009
NATCHEZ — The Natchez Eola Hotel, the Natchez Eola Guest House and the Prentiss Club sold in a commercial and historic real estate auction Tuesday in the hotel’s upstairs banquet room.
The Eola sold to a high bidder for $4.8 million. Both the Guest House and the Prentiss Club sold to a high bidder for $800,000 each.
The nominal opening bid for the Eola was $500,000 while the nominal opening bid for the Guest House and the Prentiss Club was $250,000 each.
Auctioneer Tommy Williams of Williams & Williams auction firm in Tulsa, Okla., presided over the auction. A Williams & Williams on-site bid representative submitted the high bids against a live crowd of approximately 20 people.
Before bidding began, Williams reminded the audience the Eola is not something one can duplicate, saying the landmark is a historic property in a historic American community.
“We’re selling something money cannot replace — history and ambiance,” Williams said.
Williams said closing will occur within 30 days of seller Bob Dean’s acceptance of the high bids. The bidders’ identities were not revealed since the sales are not final.
The high bidder of the Eola will incur an added cost of $250,000 for all personal property on the premises unless the seller excludes personal items.
The high bidder of the Guest House and the Prentiss Club will incur an added cost of $150,000 for all personal property at the Guest House.
All personal property at the Prentiss House will be removed by the seller with the exception of the draperies and lighting fixtures valued at $100,000. The added cost is due at closing if the buyer decides to purchase the furnishings.

No buyer names have been released, because the sale is not yet closed. When we get names, we'll share them.
Thanks

I know personally that the Guest House and Prentiss Club are worth far more than what they went for. I helped Mr. Buzz Harper with much of the renovation of both of these structures a few years ago and have an attachment to both. I hope dearly that whoever has them restores them to the glory that Buzz gave them. Bob Dean did nothing with them and he should be ashamed.

Prentiss Club was a gentlemen's club back in the day. Most of us under age 60 know of it as the former home of the Pearl Street Cellar.

The Prentiss Club was the old Masonic Temple. While the Masons are strictly for men, the female version was the Eastern Star, and the teenagers were Demolay for the boys and Rainbow Girls. I don't think it was a "club" for drinking or carousing until it was sold and became the cellar. The Guest House was, I believe, the Lions Club building and I remember it had a pool in the back, don't know if it is still there.

I hope they do not let the Warren Ruthers of the world get it......That would be a shame and he would drive up prices more and run it into to the ground........Caution, Natchez
