What is this?
Cast an educated vote Tuesday
Published Sunday, November 22, 2009
Adams County voters run the risk of making a big mistake on Tuesday.
For the second time this month, voters will head to the polls to select the man who will fill the unexpired term of the late Adams County Sheriff Ronny Brown.
Tuesday’s election will be a runoff between Ray Brown and Charles “Chuck” Mayfield.
Both men appear to be good men, both dedicated to public safety in this community.
Voters have a tough choice to make. Both men are well known and both likable.
Despite the method that we use to elect sheriffs, the election process should be less about their personal popularity and more like a job hiring process.
Voters represent the employer, in this case Adams County. And like a good employer, voters should look carefully at the records, work histories and personal accomplishments.
If voters truly look at the two men objectively, Mayfield will stand out as having more capabilities and a better, broader track record of personal crime-fighting experience. And, most important, he has experience leading others.
We hope voters choose to vote for Mayfield.
However, the only real mistake voters can make is in becoming complacent or apathetic and simply not voting at all.
Choosing not to cast an educated vote is the biggest mistake our community can make on Tuesday.
We hope all registered voters head to the polls and vote their hearts, but most important, we just hope they show up and vote.

Whatever. Whoever wrote this article is wrong for that. You might as well title it don't vote for Ray Brown. Chuck Mayfield maybe a great guy but we the residents of adams county don't need a newspaper telling us who to vote for. I have a mind of my own and so do the rest of adams county residents. Oh, speaking of experience and most qualified Cliff Cox claim to be the better man for the job. Where is he??? Out of the race. As an employer you have to be open minded and color blind. Diversity in the work place contributes to prosperity, growth, strenghth, and unity. Something that adams county desperately needs. Sometimes change is good if you know what i mean.

dogman, your posting is an excellent example of what the Democrat Editorial Board was talking about when they asked folks to cast an "educated vote". As long as newspapers have been in existence they have given their endorsements to the political candidates of their choice. Your school should have taught you that. Once you are well educated you will be able to understand what real changes are needed.

why is it that when someone says they are voting for Chuck Mayfield the race card is always thrown-that someone wont vote for Ray Brown b/c hes black? maybe dogman can answer that. Noone gets on here and says that the people who are voting for Ray are being racist and not voting for Chuck cause he's white!!! come on people-give it a rest already..........im voting Chuck and it has nothing to do with Ray or the color of his skin-its b/c of experience and leadership qualities...........................im just sayin

Writer should have more clearly tied the making a mistake statement to not voting at all. Some people may read just the first paragraphs and assume its saying a vote for Ray would be a mistake. Even though thats what seems to be implied as well...

OldGrandDad: I've never read a more intelligent post.
Thank you.
Democrat: I'll say again, you are damned if you do
and damned if you don't. You do a great job.

Race should not be a factor in this race. This is just a moment in time that Adams county can look back on and be happy with the choice they made. That choice should be Ray Brown. Ray not only has the experience, but he has a proven track record also.He is a Good leader, one that is firm and fair but compassionate and humble also.Ray is well educated (college, law enforcement, ect.) and just what this county need. He has the vision for this county working TOGETHER for the saftey of All it's citizens. The one thing ND got right was,no matter what people should VOTE! Unlike them, I hope that you vote for RAY BROWN.
This is YOUR chance Adams county. Show the world how far we've come. That race does not matter. That against all odds we chose the best person of the two men left standing.Make your choice NOV.24,2009 RAY BROWN.
Natchez Democrat Unsung Hero, proven elected official, proven leader, fair, humble, dedicated, loving, and compassionate. The RIGHT man to "Move the Community Foward"
GO RAY GO!!! VOTE RAY BROWN!!!VOTE RAY BROWN!!!

Why would this editor try to make voters fearful. The first statement is just WRONG. The big mistake voters would be making is letting ND help them choose. If not for the Bellemont box your canidate would be at home and Randy Freeman would be in the run-off. My advice is voters use your own mind and not listen to ND. I ask that you consider your vote.VOTE RAY BROWN! You don't run any risk with that choice. VOTE RAY BROWN!!!

We need a MAN that believe and put GOD first in making decisions about people. Vote the candidate that you feel will not abuse authority and lead the community to stay separated as it is now. IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE.
