Our federal government is broken

Published Sunday, November 22, 2009

Some want our government to provide us with housing, food, automobiles, money and health care, privileges they have not earned, but feel they have a fundamental right to because they are Americans or live here illegally.

They do not care if the government has complete power over their lives and lifestyles, as long as they are provided with these privileges and advantages that other hardworking, nationalized, taxpaying American citizens have fought for, worked for, sacrificed and saved for. And, I’ll add, that people have died for to give this nation our freedoms to choose and disagree.

Our government’s idea is to spend our way out of debt and spend the taxpayers’ money to get yourself re-elected. More and everlasting power is part of their goal.

Many Americans are busy trying to survive to put food on the table and to enjoy personal interests, so they don’t vote.

One hour to register, two hours to vote. This effort from many who do not vote would give us back our nation. You can also pick up the phone and call your senators and congressmen and women.

Everything our government has touched is broken or going broke.

Will you let them break our health care and gain more power at this time in our history?

One day your children or grandchildren will ask, “Why didn’t you do something?”

Will, “I didn’t have time be the answer?” Or, will it just be “it just wasn’t worth it”?

The only vote that doesn’t count is the one that is not cast.

I am in total agreement with the spirit you express Daniel, but I would like to point out to you that many of the people who are here illegally pay income taxes and social security, refuse handouts, and rely on themselves- these people believe in the American dream that hard work and perserverance will allow one to prosper and do good for the community as well as for the self.

Conversely, many people who are here legally, who were born in this country, look only for the next government subsidy for their directionless lives. I point out to you that only tax filers may collect earned income tax credit, which, as all should know, is actually unearned income tax credit, a negative tax rate created to, in the words of the World Bank, "foster a supply of poor individuals to provide a pool of cheap labor".

Just this past week I have offered jobs to four young natural born Americans, two of whom work at a big box retailer part time for less than I am willing to pay, but who get government money in addition to their big box pay, and two who are currently on unemployment. After setting up appointments for interviews neither of these four showed up or even bothered to call to tell me not to waste my time waiting on them.

Hating on "illegal immigrants" is a popular Judas goat, but it is based, like all hate, on misinformation and sometimes willful ignorance. There are no illegal people, at least not according to the founding principles of America, only legally impassable borders. The problem isn't the people, it's the politics.

Gordon Brown said last spring that he envisions a one-world Global Europe. That's a fine dream for England and the other European socialist countries to have, while they sit under the umbrella of 80% American funded NATO protection, operating defense companies producing goods paid for by American taxpayers, but I say NO! Not a one-world Global Europe, but a one-world Global America, with liberty and justice for all.

The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.

Be careful what you ask for. In actual numbers only 40-46% of Americans work at any given time. This means the majority is receiving some kind of hand out. I include those in prision because they contribute nothing and their families drain tax revenue at a tremendous rate. Now the point is if the majority vote and they vote for more hand outs then those of us that work will be working for nothing.

The federal government became broken soon after its inception. American service members have been fighting to protect the lifestyles of the rich and the wealth of the 2 percenters ever since.

Clearly, Daniel W. Smith is a genius with rare insight. Screw the sick that have no health care. Let 'um die. Shoot the illegals on site and ask qustions later. Screw the poor. (Not my problem.)
What we really need is strong local government since that is so successful. Even better, how about no government at all and every person for themself. No police departments, no fire department, no national military, no medicare, no Social Security, no national highways, no post office. Prayer is the real answer.
GIVE ME A BREAK!

Privatize the libraries, the fire department, the schools, the highways, the airports.

Kick government out of everything.

No more government run colleges. Make them all private!

Privatize it all. Privatize all the airport security. Privatize all the bridges and tunnels! Privatize all the railroads.

No more medicare and medicaid. Privatize it all! Old people fend for yourself! Get off the public welfare system you leaches!

We have become a socialist nation! Take our country back from the socialists!

No more socialism!!!!!!!!!

Why isn't Haley cutting taxes?

Why is Haley stimulating Mississipp's economy by cutting taxes.

Paying taxes to Jackson takes dollars away from small business puts people out of work.

Mississippi should CUT TAXES to stimulate growth.

Ah, DuncanPark and natchezsouthside, two prototypical examples of the Dem/Lib base. The ignorance they display is truly breathtaking. And what's so funny is that natchezsouthside doesn't even realize that most of her last post, if implemented, would make things work far more efficiently in this country.

The problem with her line of reasoning (and I use that term loosely) is that nobody is proposing that everything be privatized. Government should play a role, albeit a very limited one. But what you see from their foolish posts is typical of Democrat supporters: a heavy reliance on nonsequiturs to try to make a political point, which renders their entire argument illegitimate.

I mean, are the two of you actually defending the level of fiscal irresponsibility that we're seeing in Washington? The deficits under Reagan were miniscule compared to now, and he was forced to accept them because of a Democrat Congress. Plus, he implemented pro-growth policies that caused the economy to boom. The opposite of what we see today. So the two of you are making and apples and oranges argument, the bread and butter of the know-nothing Obama supporter.

And do the two of you actually think the health care monstrosity they're trying to ram through Congress, against the wishes of the American people I might add, would actually make health care better? I mean, c'mon.

kmbjd40: "Ah, DuncanPark and natchezsouthside, two prototypical examples of the Dem/Lib base"

Any grouping of people into a lump sum is a "foolish" post.

especially, kmbjd, when you are totally wrong... I have never in my life been a Democrat.

That is what is wrong--well ONE thing anyway--with the GOP. Anyone who disagrees with the kool-aid mentality is immediately branded a Lib Dem.

That's why the GOP will lose again in 2010. No reason at all for we Independents to vote GOP. You OFFER nothing.

BTW, the GOP run Congress and Bush ran up the debt we have right now. 1992-2008 the GOP ran congress.

2008, first of all, anybody who doesn't understand that people who subscribe to particular political ideologies can be grouped together, shouldn't be posting. How dumb can you be.

Ntchzsouthside, your party affiliation is irrelevant. That's why I wrote "Dem/Lib" and not "liberal Democrats." The two are not necessarily one in the same. After all, there are conservative Democrats (though that does seem like a contradiction in terms. I think they should simply be called "confused"). From your posts, I believe any reasonable person would make the assumption that you are politically liberal. Independent or not.

Maybe you're not aware of this, but there is a difference between the national debt and the budget deficit. Maybe you should research it. You see, Barack Obama has already accumulated more debt than any President from George Washington to George W. Bush combined. And when Cheney made that comment, I'm sure he, nor anybody else on earth, would have ever imagined that we would be talking about deficits on this scale.

And in case you haven't noticed, independents are abandoning the Democrats at an unprecedented rate. Why do you think the Dems got wiped out in Virginia and New Jersey, or why the national Democrat party is in a panic right now about how they're polling among independents.

Why don't you wake up and smell the reality.

This entire country is flat broke and it isn't because of me making boo boo's or you... For every soldier over in Afganistan it costs one MILLION dollars a year for him to be there...that is EACH. AND they want to send more?

kmbjd40: once again you prove your ignorance. You state that I am politically liberal. Again you are wrong. And again you demonstrate why we Independents will have no home with the GOP. You have no mind for anyone but those who babble the same tripe back to you that you whine.

And, yes, I know the diff. between debt and deficit. Most 10 year old know that.

They also know that at the end of Bush's term the National Debt was $9,985 trillion. It has gone up ~2 trillion since Obama took office. You can't blame Obama for the whole 12 trillion since he didn't spend the first $10 trillion!! Duh. Nor did invent the war in Iraq or cause the debacle in Afghanistan, but he still has to oversee the costs, etc etc etc.

But again I ask, why when the GOP ran the Congress AND the White House both was there never ever a balanced budget submitted, NOR was there ever a reduction in the debt?? Why??

For that matter, on a more local level, why isn't Haley CUTTING taxes to stimulate the Mississippi economy?

When Bush took office the debt was 5.6 trillion and when he left it was almost 10 trillion. He doubled the debt.

Where was your GOP hand wringing, tea-bagging, and fiscal whining then? You GOP are a bunch of phoneys. You want to point fingers but won't look in the mirror when you do it.

That is why we Independents will NOT align with the GOP. You are a party in the wilderness.

Attention kmbjd40:

I am a Democrat but only by default. The Mary Lincoln/Blanche Landrieu/Ben Nelson types infuriate me with their pandering to conservative types like you.
You people are a 20% minority now since only of voters will even admit to being republicans.

Not all Republicans are Conservatives.

Posted by kmbjd40 (anonymous) on November 24, 2009 at 7:32 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Natchezsouthside, I stated that from your posts you seem to be politically liberal. If you can't recognize that, then perhaps you should consider a serious self-evaluation. Independent isn't an ideology.

I would never try to defend Bush's fiscal policies. As a conservative, I was strongly opposed to all the wasteful spending that occurred. My point is that, compared to what's happening now, the spending under Bush seems quaint. Are you aware that the current national debt of $12 trillion is expected to nearly double over the next ten years? Does that not bother you? Does it give you pause at all? By 2019 we will be paying $700 billion a year just in interest on the debt. (And I never said Obama was responsible for the entire $12 trillion. But unless he's stopped, he will be responsible for the next $12 trillion.)

And as I pointed out earlier, independents are already aligning with the GOP. (Listen up DuncanPark). You see, as of October, 37.8% of voters called themselves Democrats while 31.9% called themselves Republican. Yet, in the generic Congressional ballot, Republicans are preferred over the Dems 44% to 37%. In fact, Republicans have led on the generic ballot continuously since June. How do you account for the discrepency betweed party ID and the generic ballot? Independents, of course. Plus, 40% of the country is politically conservative, while a mere 20% is liberal. Sorry DuncanPark.

And notfromnatchez, you have a flair for the obvious. I really don't see what your point is. If the entire Republican party was conservative, they wouldn't find themselves in the trouble they're in now.

Southside, you seem to believe that I walk in lock-step with the Republicans. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I am a Conservative. My allegiance is to this country, not to any political party. Right now, the Republican party is the lesser of two evils. Because there is nothing on earth quite as bad as the Democrats. They seem hell bent on the utter ruination of the United States and I stand firmly opposed to them. As should any true American. If you, or DuncanPark, or any other Obama supporter can't see that, I feel sorry for you. But thankfully, your numbers are dwindling by the day. (Obama's at 45% approval, thank God!)

Oh gee whiz. How could you bug-eyed conservative, flat world, Simon Legree, tax turtle, war-mongering, closet racist, simpletons EXPECT government to work here?

America is full of obese people (God love em) who can't wash their clothes without a machine, forgot how to grow their own food unless they go to Walmart to get the dirt, want to invade countries they can't even POINT OUT ON A MAP, and think they are AGENTS OF GOD.

HOW IS A GOVERNMENT OF FOLKS LIKE THAT GOING TO BE ANYTHING BUT BROKE?

Conservatives are actually totally preoccupied with government. We just went through 8 years when they sold it to everybody who could pay them what they wanted.

Now that they are out of power, their new hobby is WHINING!
