Belk men’s department cashiers Carolyn Good and Sharon Stewart prepare Black Friday Early Bird sale signs to be put on the floor.
Stores to open early on Black Friday

NATCHEZ — Today is a day to rest, relax, give thanks and enjoy the bounty brought by the last year.
Friday is a day for many to go out and acquire more bounty.
Known as Black Friday, the day when retail department stores traditionally start to turn a profit by taking their ledgers “in the black,” the day after Thanksgiving is the biggest sales day of the year with many stores offering deals and one-day bargains to kick off the Christmas shopping season.

Belk Clinique counter manager Linda Eidson and cosmetician and fragrance specialist Geraldine James look at a Clinique gift package that will be for sale during this Friday’s Early Bird sales event at the store.
After spending the last few weeks stocking up for the big day, some retailers will hope to lure in more customers by opening early.
At the Natchez Mall, Belk and J.C. Penny will open their doors at 4 a.m. Friday.
In addition to what the store can sell Friday, J.C. Penny manager Larry Glatts said the store was hoping to lure shoppers back Saturday.
“We will be handing out Walt Disney snow globes at 4 a.m. while supplies last,” Glatts said. “A lot of people have been collecting those for years and years, and also on the snow globe is a $10 coupon to be redeemed Saturday for purchases over $50.”
At Walmart, the store is open 24 hours, but Black Friday specials will be available from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Instead of the scenario of having customers line up outside waiting for the store to open, Walmart Manager Lionell Stepter said customers would form lines for special sale items.
“The customers will be in the store already, and so probably at 4:30 a.m. we will allow them to start lining up,” Stepter said.
“We are trying to structure it to prevent any altercations or accidents.”
Stores in the mall other than J.C. Penny and Belk will open at 6, 7, and 8 a.m., according to Natchez Mall management.

It doesn't have anything to do with race. For the retailers it means they could potentially go from being in the red to being in the black; as in making a profit.
Have a happy thanksgiving to all!

"Black Friday does have racial undertones, but I know better. I encourage my friend and family to call it "BLITZ" because people(of all races) charge in the stores like linebackers "blitzing" the quarterback. I attended a few years aog and did get "sacked". I have not and never will attend again.
