Thanksgiving week full of good news

Published Monday, November 30, 2009

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving week, enjoyed family and friends and abstained from overeating.

But even if that last plate of stuffing was one too many, we know this week was a great one for many people.

The holiday season brings lots of fun and plenty of good news to the Miss-Lou.

Let’s review some great things from last week.

4 The youth of Greater New Zion Baptist Church gathered Monday to make a few homemade crafts to deliver to nursing homes later this month. We respect these young people for their thoughtfulness and are glad they found something productive to do on their day off from school.

4 Volunteers filled the Stewpot Thursday morning to donate their time filling a few Thanksgiving plates for those who might otherwise not have had one. The Stewpot is a great community partner, and we thank all the volunteers that operate it year round.

4 The Christmas lights are on in Natchez and Vidalia and we hope the visitors will soon follow. Natchez opened the Christmas season Friday afternoon with caroling and the lighting of the downtown Christmas tree.

The riverfront exhibits in Vidalia have been drawing onlookers for several days.

4 Shoppers flooded into local stores early Friday morning, spending money and stimulating the local economy. It was great to see so many shoppers staying local this Black Friday.

Christmas is right around the corner, and Santa is watching now. That’s bound to stir up some more good behavior to which we can all look forward.
