City Grants Coordinator Brett Brinegar resigns

Published Friday, October 2, 2009

City Grants Coordinator Brett Brinegar announced Friday she will resign from her post effective Oct. 15.

Brinegar e-mailed and submitted a hard copy of her resignation letter to Mayor Jake Middleton, City Clerk Donnie Holloway and City Attorney Everett Sanders.

Brinegar confirmed last week she had been laid off as a result of budget cuts, but after protests from supporters, Brinegar said she was told she had been placed under performance evaluation.

Brinegar has accepted a job at Copiah-Lincoln Community College as director of student affairs.

You are going to be missed and I am proud of you for dealing with all this in the professional manner that speaks volumes for who you are. Good luck in everything you choose to do.

Good for you, Brett. This is a great loss for the city--though the BOA and the mayor are too dense to recognize it--but a wonderful new opportunity for you. Thank you for serving the city with intelligence, competence, and dignity. It's unfortunate that those above you in the hierarchy of city government lack all of these qualities.

I couldn't have said it any better than Tom & beammeupscotty....and want to add my best wishes to you. Your leaving is a big loss to the city, but a big gain to whoever is smart enough to snap you up!

Just goes to show you, when someone treats you like trash and takes you for granted, someone else thinks you are gold!!!!!

Good for you, and congrats on your new position!

One door closes, another one opens. Congratulations. I'm sure you will be much happier working for a class act like Co-Lin and not having to worry about the morons running our city into the ground.

Enough BS about politics. How about running a story about the Natchez soldier that killed by an IED in the Phillipines?

What a crock of croopity croop! It does not take a genius to apply for grants. Tutorials and references galore all over the internet.

Most efficient businesses ask their employees to apply for grants in their spare time and offer a bonus to the employee if the grant comes to fruition.

Most likely, this person was not meeting quota. Any moron can score one big grant each year and claim that pays for their $40k salary, but the real world doesn't work that way. If your title is "Grandpoopa Grant Writer," you are expected to bring in a considerable number of grants.

Of course, that means you have to work. Unfortunately, most grant writers are political smooshers who earn money by the handshake and the bar tab.

It's a sad life, but all God's chillen gotta make a livin'.

You have never written a grant, obviously.

RAVENNEVERMORE, I don't reckon any ole "political smoosher" would have generated the public outcry that Ms Brinegar did with her getting layed off. That speaks to her character and abilities. But perhaps this is nothing more than a bad case of jealousy? How sad.

:)

Tom, I think you would be surprised to know who was on her side in city hall, including the mayor. One day I hope this will all come out...but as for now, knowing what I know, you guys are clueless.

eagle--I know a lot more than you think I do. I have sources as well. The mayor and Brett's other "allies" have been gutless throughout this whole mess. If they were on her side, as you suggest, they certainly didn't put themselves out there fighting for her. With friends like that, who needs enemies.

She will excel in everything she chooses to do.

Yeah Tom it is what I always say about how Natchez treats its own.

eagle1, please feel free to clue us in at any time.

I worked with Brett many times and she was always busy doing a lot of other public relations jobs every time I saw her. Keeping up on what grants were available was just as important as filing the grants.

Obviously we have the most useless mayor in the United States. What is he good for? Absolutely nothing!

Jake probably could be more forceful might be an understatement.

However, I think our real problem is the incompetent boa members.

Gary, You really do know so little. THERE ARE TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY! I think the BOA are being wise to keep their mouths shut at this time. The less said the better. They could open themselves up to law suits if they are not careful.
