Natchez firefighters respond to a house fire at the intersection of White Apple Road and U.S. 61 South in south Adams County. Witnesses say the fire started near the utility room of the house and quickly spread to the remainder of the structure. According Jeffery Price, the son of the previous owner, the house was sold last week to be turned into a hunting camp. As the fire blazes in the attic, firefighter Anthony Moore works the fire from the room below.

South Adams County house destroyed by fire

Published Wednesday, October 7, 2009

Steve Trujillo was in a hurry to get to the hospital Tuesday afternoon. The owner of Auto Glass Services cut open his hand while installing glass in Woodville and was speeding up U.S. 61 to Natchez to get stitches.

All that was forgotten when Trujillo saw the billowing smoke coming from a house on White Apple Road. With a bleeding hand, Trujillo immediately turned off the highway to see if anyone was in the house.

"I wanted to make sure no one was hurt," Trujillo said. The glass installer immediately called 911 and then searched the property for any residents.

Fortunately no one was home. The previous owner, Bobbie Price, had recently moved from the house. According to her son, Jeffery, who was on the scene Tuesday, the house was sold last week and no one had been in the house for a couple of days.

Trujillo said that when he approached the house the fire appeared to have started near the house's utility room. When firefighters arrived, the fire had already spread to the main part of the house.

No one was injured in the fire and the cause of the blaze in under investigation.

OMG..... I looked at buying that home my self for my family just a month ago...This house belonged to a little old lady unable to care for it now and is in a home for the elderly. CRACK HOUSE???? Why do people always jump the gun??? This would have made a very nice place for someone (us) that had a husband to help care for it and the large yard.... SAD:{ My Prayers go out to the Price Family and to the new couple that just purchased it... A home of many memories is now gone:{

I knew a time when Steve would have passed by, he has had some troubles that might have kept a lesser person down for good.
Now he has a business and is stopping to help while bleeding?
Good for you Steve, hope you got stitched up in time!

According to the paper edition, the house was purchased to use for a hunting camp. Don't know why it wasn't written in the same way here.

The paper edition had the hunting camp reference in the photo cutline. I will add it to the cutlines in the photo online. Thanks.

It was a great house and would have been a wonderful place to raise kids. No way on earth it was a crack house. It's very sad. The Price family is very upset with what has happened for the people who bought the house and what was once their family home is now gone. Many thanks to Steve Trujillo for calling the fire dept.

Steve I Would like to thank you for your unselfish act.I wish our area had more people like you who think about others. As far as this being a crack house,my family bought the house in 1964 and had belonged to us up until friday. My brother, sister and I are heartbroken by this event. We all wanted the new owner to breathe new life back into the place and hopefully this will not deter him.Thank you also to our firefighters who saved the house from a complete loss.

For the crack head who made a comment about the burning house you need to really look at yourself in the mirror. It takes a really good hearted human being to do what Steve did and I thank God that no one got hurt. I don't see you doing anything but judging others that are doing good. My prayers goes to the family that just bought the house because the house is now a total lose. I agree w/RPerez "Get a life,Generoberts!!!" and Steve to me you are a blessing to our community. We need more kind hearted people like you.....God bless you!!!!

I have known Steve most of my life. He has always been a sweet heart. I am glad you got your life together Steve. Hope your hand is okay. Great to hear you are still around in the area. Tell your mom hello for me. And seriously, some of you people on here just really need to get a life. I bet y'all are some miserable people to be around. OMG, the drama.

GREAT JOB STEVE! PROUD TO KNOW YOU ARE CLEAN!
THAT'S A BIG PART OF RECOVERY, NOT THINKING ABOUT
YOURSELF AND GIVING TO OTHERS! CONGRATS!
