Balloons usher in cold weather
Published Monday, October 19, 2009
It took two days more days than we would have liked, but beautiful hot-air balloons filled the skies early Sunday, flying over First Baptist Church and Melrose.
High winds grounded all balloons Friday and all but one balloon Saturday. But mother nature finally played along Sunday and we hope everyone enjoyed the sight.
We are always sad to see the balloons, and our friends the pilots, leave town, but the end of balloon race signifies the end of a rushed and busy week in the Miss-Lou.
But balloon race wasn’t the only happening of last week worth mentioning.
Let’s review a few of the good news stories from last week.
• The Vidalia High School Band — V-Town Surround Sound Band — recently received a rating of “excellent” at competition. Congratulations to the young musicians.
• Two Natchezians and two businesses were honored for their community contributions Tuesday night at the annual Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce Gala. We join the chamber in thanking and congratulating Pat Biglane, Regina Charboneau, Dianne’s Frame Shop and Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
• Alcorn State University will soon be offering education bachelor’s, master’s and Master of Arts degrees in teaching degree courses on its Natchez campus. The additional courses will give Natchez residents the chance to further their education while working full-time.
Balloon race seemed to bring fall to town, and it’s easy to feel like Christmas is coming now. The next few weeks will take us further into the holiday season, which we know will be a busy and good one.

Though space aliens did not disquise theirs ship as balloons and launch a surprise attack, we must remain vigalant to such threats.
Dr Vaughn, negligent absentee owner of Arlington remains free, but he no doubt feels the hot breath of our ever persistent preservationist breathing down his neck.
If H1N1 really infected hogs, the mayor and boa would have been in ICU long ago, leaving us literally leaderless, rather than virtually - whic might actually be an improvement, come to think of it.

Thanks. Checking the typos, I should not attempt anything more complicated than pouring coffee before I've had coffee.
