Obama deserves respect; so does Bush

Published Sunday, September 27, 2009

In response to Heida E. Hick’s letter to the editor on Sept. 21, I am also truly intrigued by your comments regarding our current President, Mr. Obama. I agree with your line of reasoning that the President deserves the respect of all. So then I ask you this question Ms. Hicks, does that respect apply to all presidents or just to Mr. Obama?

The reason I ask that question is that I assume, since you classify yourself as an unabashed liberal, you surely voted for Mr. Obama and you certainly watched the inauguration ceremonies in January.

However, it appears that you missed the part where our former President George W. Bush was introduced at which time the mainly African American crowd greeted him with loud boos. I was personally offended by that reaction which was totally wrong and uncalled for. Where was the respect there Ms. Hicks?

So I guess I am wondering where your letter of disapproval to The Democrat was when that happened.

Therefore Ms. Hicks, since I am an unabashed conservative who disagrees with virtually everything this President has done in this eight months in office, I would agree with your statement that he does deserve the respect even when we disagree.

However, I believe it is a two-way street which is something liberal Democrats feel does not apply to them.

Why people around here be it Black, White, Red...etc. all ways find some way to keep up MESS?
It is time to let this DEAD ISSUE DIE.

Everyone should get Respect, But do we get it all the time? NO .. So get over it and move on with your Life. If this is the only thing we can think about, we need to get a life.

Good article and I agree with you to a point.

I DO NOT AND WILL NOT HAVE RESPECT for this person who calls himself president.

I have respect for the office when a decent human is there who has respect and love for America. This person does not. This person has shown his disdain, (hatred) for America very openly. He has proven time and again that he has no respect for America by playing the buddy system with our worst enemies. Enemies who want us all dead. And he apologises to them for our mistreatment of them. How dare he!!!!!! Who, are what is he to take this upon himself??????

I guess he was to busy learning to hate America, teaching Acorn how to steal American taxpayers money, budding around with well known out in the far left field liberals, to learn respect for American values.

Respect this person. Why??? He certainly has no respect for me or what I hold dear. He is trying his best to destroy it. Trying to get our children to worship him in our public schools is completely out of all common sense. It's an act you would find in one of the third world countries, not America.

America is the number one nation of the world. You certainly would not know this by listening to him.

Respect him !!!!!. Someone who won an election by fruadulent means like in the easten countries and I'm sure that can be proven when they dig into Acorn's files deep enough.

Respect him !!!!!!!! I don't think so. Not in this life time.

StuWhoMoved, how backwards and sad your world must be. You must disrespect many millions of people since they have not stood before you and had a chance to earn your respect. In polite society (that of ladies and gentlemen) people should have your respect until they behave in such a way as to lose it. It is attitudes like yours, on the left and the right, that are bringing this country down at a terrible speed.

destiny, I probably disagree with Obama's politics 95% - 99% of the time. But I think that he and I could hold a civil conversation on the front porch or at a social gathering. Why is this becoming increasingly difficult for some of our citizens? Are we reverting to savages?

I will have a love and respect for him as a person and our president. Personally, I feel from what I read from the BIBLE, he is wrong for our nation. He goes against the core values to which this country was founded.

I will pray for him and his soul. His fruit is not to worthy that he bares. But non shall parish, but seek after eternal life. No soul is worthy of hell, but it will be a reality for many. PRAY for our leaders. Be firm in your convictions, and respectfully let them know when they are wrong.

GOD Bless the World

Jeez, this again? The Office of President deserves respect. No man who occupies it deserved squat. They respect is either earned or it is not. It certainly is not automatic.

There is no nobility here. No royalty. No man is entitled to the respect of others by default. No man.

I respect the office and I agree with the article to a point. The office of The United States Of America is being misused by this man that is full of hatred for white people. Anybody that can't see this is has blinders on. This is a man that cozies up to our eniemies(they love him and want him to be president forever) and is making eniemies of our friends. We have troops in Afghanistan that desperately need backup of more troops so we can win this war, while this president sleeps on it. Their lives are in greater danger because of this. This is not giving any support for our soldiers. I feel for our generals. It must be very frustrating and sad.Respect for obama? NO

I agree Conrad, wonderful article - direct and to the point. The trouble with Americans, non-Americans is too much hatred. If people could learn to agree that we disagree without anger. I do not care for President Obama at all and I would not walk across the street to meet him. I DO RESPECT the office and in that regards would have to be respectful to the officeholder. President Bush was a good president whether you agreed with him or not. He made mistakes and misjudgments like all human beings. If historians use the records to record the history correctly, he will be proven to be one of the better presidents. Obama will go down the likes of Carter -- we have 4 years and we will have to endure them. Everyone should read and study the CONSTITUTION, that is the only way to make any kind of judgment at all. If you want to keep the USA an independent and free nation, everyone had better wake up. Also, remember to vote out of office a lot of those in Congress who are also guilty of being lapdogs without brains enough to stand up to anyone who wants anyone to vote on any law without reading it.

Wow!!

President Obama hasn't even been in office a year, and the critisims are loud and clear. Was it difficult for me while President Bush was in office to offer respect? Yes. However, there is something called self-control, knowing when and when not to speak.

Now, we talk about Obama and his inability to lead, but look at the current state of America. Those decisions formulated by the Bush Administration has left this country on one leg. I don't need to write an essay but two events will stand out in history where President Bush did not make sound decisions: a delay in response to Hurricane Katrina victims, and going to Iraq searching for weapons of mass destruction.

Anyway, it's time for me to workout.

I guess with the way some people reason things then Bush should blame Clinton and Clinton should blame Bush and Bush should blame Reagan and so on. obama started working on changing America before he was even sworn into office. It is what it is. the only recourse we have is to change our Congressmen/women and our present president just as soon as we can vote them out. obama & co. has a lot of money behind them so it's never to early to start thinking about this. I started last Nov. 4th.

You cannot convince a man against his will. No matter what President Obama does, there are those who will disagree because they do not wish to acknowledge him, the individual. It has nothing to do with his policies. Many people disagree with him without actually knowing what he said or did. A fact revealed in some of these post. I hope he will continue to do what he believes in his heart is right for all of us, including his detractors.

At a time when our country needs more than anything to be unified, we have this mess.

Ex-President Bush and his co-horts did more to destroy this country than Osama bin Ladin and the Taliban together. Those are undesputible facts....from tripling the deficit to lying and taking us to war killing and crippling 5 times more than 9/11, (and the 10 billion a month that has cost us for the last 8 years isn't even reflected in his deficit figures due to his creative bookkeeping) to privatizing Fannie and Freddie thus bringing down the economy on the backs of the greedy banks and Wall St boys, the spending nearly a trillion dollars of taxpayer's money to bail them out which enabled them to grow larger and pay some CEOs as much as $50 million annual salaries plus multi-million dollar bonuses for the work that took their companies into bankruptcy and ruin...all with no strings allowed to enabling his family friends, the Saudis, to run unrestricted through the oil market paying tribute to George Soros and the Bilderberg Group, and so many other things like sitting on his butt while people drowned in New Orleans...people are still living in FEMA trailers on our own Gulf Coast....Bush???...does the announcement, "Mission Accomplished!" ring a bell? How about, "The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our Number one priority and we will not rest until we find him!" --

Well, we're still in Iraq and Afghanistan and Osama is still running free, and Bush is still in Crawford where he spent 490 days, made 77 trips there at a cost of $17,408,000. He also spent 487 days at Camp David which cost around $15 million. In fact, the War President spent more than a third of his term as President on vacation.

Crakalakin got it right...it is the office that gets the respect and therefore the person occupying that office at the time, but respect of the man himself, must be earned. Bush has proven himself worthy of no respect...Obama is well on his way to proving the same thing.

Why is it we continue to believe that the next guy we elect will do a better job, be a person more worthy of respect only to be forever disappointed?

Why do we continue to believe in a way of government that runs on lies, greed and inefficiency..........The president makes a proposal and by the time the legislators get through with all the horse-trading, it is hardly recognizable. The president vetoes the unrecognizable bill, and congress goes back to business as usual, taking 3 hour lunches at the most expensive restaurants they can find, on our dime, heading out to retreats and workshops, and all the while we the people continue to suffer from their lack of accomplishment and broken promises.

If they do happen to pass some legislation it always seems to only take effect 3-5 years from now, but the money appropriation begins immediately...can somebody 'splain that to me?

And worse than any of that he's a n...nnn...nnnn..........they just can't bring themselves to say it publically.

If I was him, I'd give them their country back. I'm sure Rush could get everyboday a 'script for oxycotin, send them all to sleep again while the MORAL majority of right wing, psuedo-christian, conservatives go on about their lying, cheating, stealing, aldulterous way.

You know they still want to kick some butt in Iran, right? Keep that war machine grinding out the tanks, and helicopters, and bombs.

Well, they better be careful with that guy 'cuz he's just itching for reason to start blowing up American cities, and killing Jews...and when Armageddon comes, there are a whole lot of those right-wingers who think going to church every now and then when it's not hunting season or the Saints aren't playing the early game, and talking the talk makes them a Christian that are gonna get left behind wonderin' what happened............

You think the anti-christ is not among us right now.........google George Soros, read his wiki write up all about what a good guy he is, what a philanthropist...then dig a little deeper and see what he's really in to...One World Order, athiestism, one world currency and global banking...the Bilderberg Group....this guy is jewish person who at 14, passed as christian during WW2 to escape the Holocaust, and even went as far as helping in the confiscation of property from the Jews. When asked on 60 minutes if he had any sense of guilt, repliled simply, "no."

Better start living your lives according to Matthew 22: 34-40...quit loving your money, start loving God and each other before you see the Bridegroom coming and find out your lamp is out of oil....

My mother NEVER let me get away with the argument that I did something or something was okay because someone else did it. I have been thinking about the situation with President Obama a lot and it is hard for me not to see it in racial terms. I grew up in Natchez and it is very interesting that the town revolves around beautiful things that came out of an ugly period. Politics and race aside, this situation with President Obama has taught me that you learn more about a person from how they react to an enemy than you do how they treat their friends. Let's just be honest, Jesus would not be in a lot of these crowds that we see protesting today or ones that have in the past. But increasingly, people are becoming hardened to how we treat each other. The level of discourse that I see these days has gotten to a point that does not make me comfortable at all.

Conrad, I too have often wondered where all the people demanding respect for the office of the president were when Bush II was being treated worse than a dog by many Americans. Don't get me wrong... I'll continue to show respect for and pray for Pres. Obama. It just would have been nice if the same courtesies being requested for him had been extended to his predecessor.

I will always respect the office of the President. The person elected to such office has to earn my respect. When a person sits in a church some 20 years, while his Pastor and personal mentor preaches hate for your fellow man, and hate for this country. A hate for this country, so indulging as to use the Lords name in vane while cursing this country, standing at the pulpit, inside a building representing the body of Christ. OH yes, I'll respect him, much the same way, as I respect a cunning rattlesnake. We can talk Bush this, and Clinton that, and Obama this and whoever else that. Respect from me starts with ones hunger and sharing of love for our Lord, Jesus Christ. If a person can't find it in himself to respect the Church, "the body of Christ", he and his followers aren't worthy of RESPECT. LOL

From previous posts, you seem to be an intelligent and informed person. When it comes to our (yes, OUR) president, you seem to lose all rationality and become a completely different person.

Most of you who post here are pathetic and racist as hell. Then you have the gall to claim you know Christ! I wonder what y'all plan to do when you get to heaven and there are African Americans there, too? Oops!!...my mistake...you won't be going to heaven because you have too much hate in your hearts!!! You bunch of hypocrites!!!! And don't lie and say it's not because President Obama is AA (be true to yourselves..you're not fooling anyone else). It's no wonder Mississippi continues to rank last in everything...it's because of backwoods, narrow-minded idiots like some of you who wouldn't know their "arse" from a hole in the ground! In case you didn't get the memo...long gone are the days and ways of the "Old South" and just in case y'all didn't know, YOU ARE IN THE MINORITY in your ways of thinking. And you want to blame everyone else for the reason Mississippi is in the shape it's in. Well, if you can "grasp" this next statement...understand that YOU are the face of Mississippi! YOU are what everyone everywhere else associates Mississippi with. It's no wonder no one wants to do business in Mississippi. Do you realize that Natchez is 56% African American vs. 46% Caucasian. Adams County is 52% African American vs. 46% Caucasian. So when you spew your hate-filled comments on here, who are you talking to?! Again, I say pathetic and racist...some of you!

Then former prez Jimmy Carter (is he still alive?) gets on TV and says this is racist of Mr Wilson, k? Then the same week Kanye West snatches the moment away from Taylor Swift after she wins an award right? He is black she is white. THEN Serena Williams, (black woman) throws a hissy fit BIG TIME at a white woman during a tennis tournament even screaming that she'll shove that F'ing ball down her F'ing throat.
Nobody called racism during these rants!

For much of the last forty years, ever since America "fixed" its race problem in the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts, we white people have been impatient with African Americans who continued to blame race for their difficulties. Often we have heard whites ask, "When are African Americans finally going to get over it? Now I want to ask: "When are we White Americans going to get over our ridiculous obsession with skin color?
Recent reports that "Election Spurs Hundreds' of Race Threats, Crimes" should frighten and infuriate every one of us. Having grown up in "Bombingham," Alabama in the 1960s, I remember overhearing an avalanche of comments about what many white classmates and their parents wanted to do to John and Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King. Eventually, as you may recall, in all three cases, someone decided to do more than "talk the talk."
Since our recent presidential election, to our eternal shame we are once again hearing the same reprehensible talk I remember from my boyhood.
We white people have controlled political life in the disunited colonies and United States for some 400 years on this continent. Conservative whites have been in power 28 of the last 40 years. Even during the eight Clinton years, conservatives in Congress blocked most of his agenda and pulled him to the right. Yet never in that period did I read any headlines suggesting that anyone was calling for the assassinations of presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan, or either of the Bushes. Criticize them, yes. Call for their impeachment, perhaps. But there were no bounties on their heads. And even when someone did try to kill Ronald Reagan, the perpetrator was non-political mental case who wanted merely to impress Jody Foster. (cont'd)

But elect a liberal who happens to be Black and we're back in the sixties again. At this point in our history, we should be proud that we've proven what conservatives are always saying -- that in America anything is possible, EVEN electing a black man as president. But instead we now hear that school children from Maine to California are talking about wanting to "assassinate Obama."
Fighting the urge to throw up, I can only ask, "How long?" How long before we white people realize we can't make our nation, much less the whole world, look like us? How long until we white people can - once and for all - get over this hell-conceived preoccupation with skin color? How long until we white people get over the demonic conviction that white skin makes us superior? How long before we white people get over our bitter resentments about being demoted to the status of equality with non-whites?
How long before we get over our expectations that we should be at the head of the line merely because of our white skin? How long until we white people end our silence and call out our peers when they share the latest racist jokes in the privacy of our white-only conversations?
I believe in free speech, but how long until we white people start making racist loudmouths as socially uncomfortable as we do flag burners? How long until we white people will stop insisting that blacks exercise personal responsibility, build strong families, educate themselves enough to edit the Harvard Law Review, and work hard enough to become President of the United States, only to threaten to assassinate them when they do? (cont'd)

How long before we starting "living out the true meaning" of our creeds, both civil and religious, that all men and women are created equal and that "red and yellow, black and white" all are precious in God's sight?
Until this past November 4, I didn't believe this country would ever elect an African American to the presidency. I still don't believe I'll live long enough to see us white people get over our racism problem. But here's my three-point plan: First, everyday that Barack Obama lives in the White House that Black Slaves Built, I'm going to pray that God (and the Secret Service) will protect him and his family from us white people.
Second, I'm going to report to the FBI any white person I overhear saying, in seriousness or in jest, anything of a threatening nature about President Obama. Third, I'm going to pray to live long enough to see America surprise the world once again, when white people can "in spirit and in truth" sing of our damnable color prejudice, "We HAVE overcome."

I have never heard anyone mention assassinating the president. Some of them are 100% on board with him. I myself agree with him very little. Does this make me racist. I can promise you this. If he implemented any of the policies that I agree with, I wouldn't care if he was purple. The only people that ever bring up race are the liberal left, and that's a fact. We are all the same on the inside, the color of our skin makes no difference.

What a terrible and pathetic commentary on our society. We as a society of so called educated Americans have acted shamefully since the election of President Obama. Where once our country was looked up to as a leader of the "free world", we have fallen from grace. It did not happen over night; in fact it has taken a concerted effort on the part of many to lower this country into the abyss. The United States is being watched and analyzed for it's response to our first minority President, and the polarization of its citizens. So far we aren’t looking very intelligent, respectful nor are we showing the world we have overcome prejudices this country has carried as baggage for way to many decades. The more Americans show their disrespect for our President and his administration the less our standing becomes on the world stage.

The overwhelming use of name calling, which at best is childish and at worst shows lack of education, lack of vocabulary and a command of the English language. An adult using abusive, vulgar and defamatory language when referencing any President shows the absence of any sense of American unity or responsibility to this country.

These are my opinions only, but at some point we must all take responsibility for the disregard of civility, common sense and duty to our country by speaking out against falsehoods, instigation of fear mongering and pandering to those that would initiate the division of our country.

Thank you ijohnson.

As Americans we have the right to protest and the freedom to say and write what we wish. But there is a line in the sand so to speak and it has been crossed. With the Census Taker killed, to the poll posted on Facebook asking users to vote "should Obama be killed?" to the Kansas abortion doctor shot and killed in his church who will be accepting responsibilty for these ungodly acts?

2008, President Obama was the most liberal senator in the senate. When most of the U.S. is mostly in the center on politics and President Obama is trying to emplement his far left agenda, you can't help but have a large and loud opposition to his policies. That does not make our country racist.

If I say anything now, she'll accuse me of stalking her because I'm on the same article. So I'll just say she sounds about normal for her crazy self.

Torch: The word raciest does not appear in my comment, nor does stating the country is raciest. I wrote about responsibility.

"large and loud opposition' isn't the problem. This country has moved past large and loud and is moving toward
acts of violence.
