Natchez man shot in neck during dice game

Published Friday, February 19, 2010

NATCHEZ — A Natchez man was shot in the neck Wednesday during a game of dice at Holiday Apartments on Old Washington Road.

Lorenzo Green, 25, No. 2 Phillips Lane, was rushed to Natchez Regional Medical Center and transported to University Medical Center in Jackson, where he is resting comfortably.

“I’m alright,” Green said.

Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said Thursday officers were dispatched to Holiday Apartments after receiving a “shots fired” call at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday. As officers approached the scene, Green ran toward the officers and told them he had been shot.

Green said he didn’t get a good look at his shooter, who was wearing a black hood and a ski mask, according to Green.

“I opened the door and the gunshot came through and hit me in the neck,” Green said. “(The bullet) went in and out.”

Mullins said no arrests have been made, but the NPD is investigating one suspect.

“We believe (Green and the shooter) had a prior altercation several weeks ago before the dice game,” Mullins said.

Green was injured in a shooting at the intersection of Beaumont Street and Woodlawn Avenue in July 2008. He was shot twice in the upper body, according to police reports.

When will it end for Lorenzo Green??? Hard to tell since he's made a habit of making headlines in this area for a very long time.

A celebrity of sorts in his own little mind........

You're right. Thugs and Punks are the problem. Mix in drugs and money and you get a lethal dose of insanity. When is enough ENOUGH? If you are as fed up with PUNKS and THUGS as I am, then what are YOU going to do about it? And more importantly, WHEN? I refuse to let a pants sagging, ghetto PUNK dictate terms to me. I stand up to them...and laugh in their face. I just love to PUNK a PUNK. Maybe its time that the rest of this community do the same. How many times has this same scenario played out in Adams County? How many others are turning a deaf ear and a blind eye on whats going on around them? How much more momentum have these PUNKS gained by our collective silence? These PUNKS thrive on the silence of John Q Public...no matter what community they have infested. Do you have a PUNK living near you? Have you made a stand to speak up? Have you reported suspicious activity to the ACSO? If not, the WHY? What are you waiting on? Perhaps your "turn" for these PUNKS to attack you and your family? It sickens me to see good citizens cowering in fear of a PUNK or THUG. They only have power if YOU give it to them. Our silence and lack of a backbone has allowed these PUNKS to become emboldened, to do pretty much whatever they wish. They feed off of each instance where they bluff or "front" someone against their will...stealing our own personal freedom and rights from us without even so much as a whimper. To this, I say ENOUGH. I for one am ready, willing and able to defend myself, my family and my neighbors with force and great vigor if necessary. What will it take for YOU to do the same? Are you waiting on that knock at your door? Do you want to wait until your loved one is hurt, shot or killed? If you don't speak up and make a stand, then YOU are part of the problem. There's no excuse Natchez-Adams County...NONE. Its past time to make a stand. PUNK a PUNK. Punk 'em every chance you get. Avoid the rush and Punk 'em early.

Who cares about this idiot. I remember River Oaks 40 years ago. Before the present crowd of upstanding citizens moved in. It was much different.

Hardcorps does the phrase "bullet sponge" come to mind with you also? Still think we need a thugs shooting range to teach these knuckleheads how to shoot better.

Dice game? Yea sure! Green knows exactly who shot him but just like every other thug down there, he aint saying a thing. Then he'll complain that the police aren't doing anything to find the shooter. Even the old women are thuggish down there.

I guess he sevened out. He needs to play dice at the casino, they won't shoot you.

It's all about greed...go after the apartment/home owners that will rent to anyone.

It's all about ignorance, start with education.

It's all about people not caring as long as the problems aren't in "my family".

It's all about letting judges know that "light" sentences are not acceptable.

and..it's about making sure the police are patrolling well known areas of trouble and taking action.

i feel that it'z the city fault becaus if u take away all activities from these kids they want do any thing else but turn to gangs and violence.trust me i've been there before and i wished till dis day that i wouldn't have done the things i've done while living in that area.so wat i'm saying is give these kids more activities and after school programs and they want end up like this kid.and i grew up with him.

To bigboi601: I read your post with great interest. From what you wrote, it would appear that you previously were involved in gangs and violence in Natchez area...but now regret having done those things. Good for you if you've found another way of life besides gangs, thugs and punks. I'm sure that it was not an easy transition but well worth it. I am curious though, how can it be the fault of the City of Natchez? No one from the City of Natchez forced anyone to do anything. I grew up in Natchez. Sure it was a different time but there was even less to do then than there is now, but we didn't choose to form gangs and turn to violence. Life is about personal choices; some good, some bad. We just have to learn and grow from our experiences. Sounds as if you've done just that...again...by your choice. Personal responsibility seems to take a backseat sometimes...but facing your problems and taking responsibility for your own actions is the first step to becoming a man...and I trust that you're well on your way. I truly am not meaning to bash on you...only taking exception to blaming the City of Natchez. Thanks for your enlightening post.

Well, with any luck third time will be the charm.

Posted by justmyopinion (anonymous) on February 19, 2010 at 8:06 p.m. (Suggest removal)

from what i hear all the time is its always someone elses fault........im so sick of that! Im fearing that the only way to get away from all this thugish activity is to move away. Hopefully people will get as sick and tired of all this as i am and start turning people and suspicious activities over to the police. i agree with you natchezms1978-if their mothers cant raise em right a lil after school activities wont help much. someone will bring a knife or a pistol, someone will steal all the equipment and someone will sue!

Posted by NatchezMS1978 (anonymous) on February 19, 2010 at 8:40 p.m. (Suggest removal)

You're right justmyopinion. A few bad apples can spoil the whole bushel...and Natchez is reeking with the stench of filth from THUGS and PUNKS. Those that are comfortable with the current status quo will fight against any attempt to purge Natchez-Adams County of this infestation...its a way of life for them. But for the silent majority of John Q Public, it is now time to make a stand...draw a line in the sand and say "NO MORE!"There's no excuse Natchez-Adams County...NONE. Its past time to make a stand. PUNK a PUNK. Punk 'em every chance you get. Avoid the rush and Punk 'em early.

Yep Stu, Mister Green, and the term "Mister" is used very sarcasticly, is a great "bullet sponge" or "bullet catcher". We DO need a thug shooting range so these heathenistic idiots will quit missing. Center mass about 5 shots then a double tap to the brain housing group.

natchez is full of ignorant people.so quick to comment about every storyline.so full of racism yes i said it.racism i can't park my 2008 truck next to a white person without them cutting there alarm on five or six times. i work six days a week eight hours a day but it does't manner to them
i can go to texas and they treat me better there than the whites in natchez.i know what you want to say but you say thug instead.maybe it takes just activites to decrease the crime .what kind of recreation do we have .nothing but this is suppose to be a tourist town.we all need to work together to make the city of natchez to bloom.i am not defending them if they did the crime they suppose to do the crime but reading the comments just seem to go overboard.where are the fathers.i am sick of tired of the fake boys suppose to be men making baby not taking care of them.thats another problem can be fixed if more men step up and be fathers to the child.a woman can do enough it takes the other parent to step up

Some people scream "do away with racism" but no one ever does anything about the cause of racism. There is a problem that causes racism. FIX IT!!

Posted by prettywife2009 (anonymous) on February 20, 2010 at 12:14 p.m. (Suggest removal)

To 30samoht: Yes you would get treated better in the state of Texas. I used to live in Natchez and not a damn thing has changed from what I see. I know somebody will have something to say about my comment but I don't give a rat's ass. I live in Texas now and I've been here for 8 years and I have'nt had not one problem and everyone is treated with respect no matter what the color of your skin is. natchez has some mindless idiots who are stuck in the last decade and use race for everything that they encounter, wake up !!!!! there is a whole world for you idiots to see, if you stop using race and the color of somebody's skin to justify everything. Anyone still thinking that you can't do something or get something because you are white, or black, or asian or hispanic is ignorant. F.Y.I: Before any of you idiots reply.......my husband whom I've been married to for 5 years is white, so not everyone sees color only stupid people do.

Why did my comments get deleted??? All I said is NPD shouldnt waste the money or manpower to investigate this crime. Green knows exactly who shot him. Green is not saying, so if he doesnt give a damn, then why should we??

The Natchez Democrat reports: " Lorenzo Green, 25, No. 2 Phillips Lane, was " RUSHED" to Natchez Regional Medical Center and transported to University Medical Center in Jackson, where he is resting comfortably.

' I’m alright,' Green said. "
______________________________________________

I'm so glad that Lil' Lorenzo is resting comfortably !

How much have the Natchez working people paid in taxes to RUSH Li'l Lorenzo to Jackson ?

If sweet Little Lorenzo would quit getting shot every week, we might could save a few dollars.

By the way, if NRMC is so great, why are all gunshot victims air - lifted to Jackson ?

An emergency Helicopter flight to Jackson is not cheap .

Posted by justmyopinion (anonymous) on February 20, 2010 at 6:36 p.m. (Suggest removal)

i say tell him next time he gets shot he has to pay his prior hospital bills off first before they will treat him-thats what seems to happen to me and lots of other people (even tho i pay a huge amount to them EVERY month). Maybe if he has to pay first the problem will be solved.

i agree to pretty wife2009 comment, yes natchez has not changed since i left, which was in 1995 then later moved back in 1999 ok enough of that, the place has nothing to do there, especially for young kids and teens it's a place of color which is here in texas also, but it's not put in your face it's like there just whites are suppose to do so well but here in big DALLAS we do big things and your kids have way way better chances in life and able to be in all sorts of programs. I'm not using this as an excuse but hey blacks , whites, asians get along I work with all sorts and live around them. PEOPLE PLEASE JUST MOVE AWAY TAKE YOUR FAMILY AND GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE, THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE . NATCHEZ IS A PLACE FOR SENIORS AND COLLEGE AFTER THAT TAKE YOUR DEGREE AND LEAVE. UNTIL NEXT TIME BE BLESSED
