Seven qualify for parish elections

VIDALIA — Seven candidates qualified Wednesday for the 15 upcoming local elections in Concordia Parish.

Qualification will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Concordia Parish Clerk of Court’s Office.

Positions up for election include all of the seats on the Concordia Parish School Board.

In Ferriday, the District C Alderman’s seat, which was left empty when Jerome Harris died earlier this year, is up for grabs. Currently, appointee Gail Pryor fills the position.

Likewise, the offices of all of the Ridgecrest aldermen, mayor and police chief are up for re-election.

In Vidalia, the position of city court judge and city court marshal will be on the ballot.

Those who had qualified as of the close of the clerk of court’s office Wednesday included:

• For Vidalia City Judge: George C. Murray.

• For Vidalia City Court Marshal: “Jim” Boren.

• For School Board District 3, Place A: Gary Parnham.

• For School Board District 4, Place B: Daryle Price

• For School Board District 5, Place A: Martha J. Rabb

• For Mayor Town of Ridgecrest: Branden Davis and Kevin Graham.

Qualifying for the offices of Louisiana lieutenant governor, the fifth congressional district representative and U.S. senator also began Wednesday.

Those who wish to qualify in the state or federal races must do so at the executive offices of the Louisiana secretary of state.

The primary for the U.S. Senate and House seats will be Aug. 28.

The primary for the lieutenant governor and local races will be Oct. 2

The general election is Nov. 2.
