Three Roselawn properties burglarized

Published Friday, July 30, 2010

NATCHEZ — In the past week, there have been three burglaries in the Roselawn subdivision, and in the latest incident the Natchez Police Department has made an arrest.

Lt. Craig Godbold said two houses on Marquette Street had been burglarized on back-to-back days, and in connection with Wednesday’s crime police arrested Tory Lamond McNeil on charges of burglary of a dwelling.

“The homeowner came home, and saw the guy run out his back door,” Godbold said. “The homeowner was able to identify the suspect because he had seen McNeil walking around the neighborhood before.”

Through the homeowner’s statement, officers were able to track McNeil, 21, to his residence at 2830 Little St., which is in the Roselawn neighborhood.

Godbold said $145 worth of goods had been taken, including a black crucifix chain, earrings, vodka and hydrocodone pills. Officers have not recovered any of the items.

Godbold said McNeil allegedly broke a window out of the back door to open the lock and enter the residence. The homeowner came home at 6:18 p.m. and reportedly saw McNeil running out his backdoor.

On Tuesday, a flat screen TV valued at $2,000 was stolen from the house across the street.

Earlier in the week, a house on Miller Avenue was burglarized.

Godbold said McNeil could become a suspect in the other crimes.

I sure hope this doesn't happen to Montebello too. Things are slowly changing in Montebello and I am worried that in 5 years in will be like Roselawn.

Great job! Now let's keep on cleaning up Roselawn and the neighboring areas and get these thugs off the streets.

Yeah, I worry about the area behind parkway too. It's not the same as it was several years ago. Where are good decent, hardworking middle class citizen supposed to live anymore? I'm looking to buy a house within the next year or two, and I don't even know which neighborhoods look the most likely to be safe in 15 years that I can AFFORD to move into! Even in Vidalia, what used to be a nice neighborhood is going downhill. :( I swear, i just want to smack some of the people around here for being trashy. Don't people have self respect anymore?

Most thieves live right around you, scary thought, but they know what you have for the most part, or at least are guessing. This is why I don't hesitate to call the police on a suspicious person. If you are walking around, loitering, "casing" the joints, so to speak, if I don't ask you, I certainly will call the police and have them to ask you a few questions. These people are walking the neighborhoods while folk are at work. I came home to Natchez, around the 1st week of July and I went to the Roselawn area, to see what all the hoopla was about and boy, did I find out. The relatives of these thieves, know who they are. You know if your son or nephew or uncle is breaking into people's homes, you just don't want to confront them, put them out. I enjoy making thieves or potential thieves uncomfortable. I am not going to live my life in fear, you will.

I'm with you siouxlady. My house was broken into when I was 14. The only regret I have is not putting a bullet right between his eyes. However, we live and learn. I won't be a victim again. Shoot first, ask questions later.

Residents need to defend their property. A "To Whom It May Concern" blast from a double-barrelled shotgun sends a very strong message that reverberates through the whole THUG/PUNK network...DON'T TREAD ON ME.

Until neighborhoods take initiative to punk these punks, they will continue to be emboldened to pretty much do as they please.

The City needs to take a bulldozer to Roselawn Subdivision. Make it into a field with nice flowers. That would make the city alot brighter.

Cosmicdust, 51 years, maybe they will get 51 years! I do not know the young men that did the breaking and entering in this case it was a Rebold and Neal, I just still can't get over the 51 year sentence, I would love to know what judge they went before! Yes they deserve punishment, but I have seen where people have been convicted of manslaughter and get less.

regardless if it's Roselawn or Beu Pre criminals do walk amongst us. Protect you anr yours. I have small children and do not intend to bring a gun into my home but I will at all cost protect my household. If I'm not home or come home and anyone is in I'll try to get out before me or mine get injured. I only hope no one attempts a break in while we re home. I have renters insurance but one break in will I'm sure raise that. So I just pray for our lieves and let the material items take care of itself.

Being a predator isn't always comfortable but the only other option is to be prey. That is not an acceptable option..
