Adults charged; children removed

Published Tuesday, March 9, 2010

WOODVILLE — The search of a Wilkinson County residence Sunday evening led law enforcement officers to arrest three adults on drug charges and child-welfare officials to remove two young drug-endangered children, according to a Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics official.

Officers discovered approximately a gram of alleged methamphetamine and the meth precursors sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, ethyl alcohol and camp fuel. They also found five firearms, including a 20-gauge sawed-off shotgun, a pill grinder and plastic tubing, Director Marshall Fisher said.

The findings led to the arrest of Daryl Vines, 53, of 7821 Fords Creek Road in Woodville; Jennings Chase McKey, 26, of 7047 61 North in Woodville; and Regina Mathis, 47, of Woodville. All three were arrested at McKey’s residence.

Vines is charged with possession of methamphetamine while in possession of a firearm. McKey is charged with possession of methamphetamine while in possession of a firearm, possession of precursors with intent to manufacture methamphetamine while in possession of a firearm as well as felony child endangerment. Mathis is charged with possession of methamphetamine.

The three suspects were transported to the Wilkinson County Jail, where they were awaiting initial court appearances.

State Department of Human Services officials placed the 2- and 4-year-old children who lived at McKey’s residence with other relatives.

The week-long investigation that led to the arrests was conducted by the MBN and Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office.

Why not just eat some rat poisoning? It's probably no more harmful than meth. People will put just about anything into their body to get high. IT'S A FAST WAY TO MEET YOUR MAKER.

Rat poison won't make you high.

Outstanding work MBN and Wilkinson County Sheriff's office...three more punks out of circulation...but more importantly, two small children removed from the filthy hands of punks. I hope that each of these three get sentenced to the fullest extent of the law. Need to hear about more of this...early and often. Keep up the good work and clear out the punks, drugs, thugs and vermin from our communities.

No charges for child endangerment against the other two! I don't care about the drugs, it sounds like they were only feeding their own habits. A 2 and a 4 year old, doesn't say whose children they were, this is the crime they should all spend the rest of their lives in prison for.

Great work by both agencies involved in getting some more slimeballs off the streets!

When the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics are finished with Wilkinson County.....Come on up Hwy. 61 N. towards Natchez and start getting some more slimeballs who are making that crap off the streets around here! There is more meth and other drugs around here than most folks know about.....Or are willing to admit knowing about!

I'll never understand drug heads , not that I really want to . What is it about reality that makes these people want to avoid it ? No one ever said life was going to be easy , but if your mind is clouded with drugs you've amplified your problems tenfold . A clear mind is your most powerful weapon to use in making a better life for yourself . A short circuited mind is pure chaos . And sucking children into this downward spiral . What an existence ! They needed to be out of that environment .

I am really close to the family that McKey was living with. I ne'er would have expected this but I'm glad he is locked up now. The last thing we need are more drugheads in our community. Great job at catching him

The police did their job.. what will the prosecution do?

Oh yeah, he worked at Heritage Manor as their charge nurse and treatment nurse. The funny thing is, they still think he's wonderful and are trying to preserve his job until he gets out of jail. Someone needs to report him to the Louisiana State Board of Nursing and let them take care of him.

I am not one to ever comment or reply to anything, but in this situation, I feel that this is one time I must speak out. First of all I have been FORTUNATE ENOUGH to work side by side with Darryl Vines and I can tell you first hand that he is one of the BEST nurses that I have ever worked with. Secondly, until you know the facts, I don't believe anyone should post some of the things that are posted on here. My BIBLE which is a NIV states in Leviticus 19:16 "Do not go around spreading slander amoung your peope." James 4:12 says "There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you--who are you to judge your neighbor?" Matthew 7:1-2 states "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with measure you use, it will be measured to you." Whatever happened to "Innocent until proven guilty." Well let me just set the record straight. Have you ever heard of being in the wrong place at the wrong time? Well that is what happened to Darryl. I hope before anymore post is made and all of you that are eager to post negative comments will stop and say,"Can this happen to me?" The answer is yes it can!!! So before you go around judgeing people, I asked that you get your Bible out and read the above scriptures and let us all leave the rest up to GOD!!!! Let us all remember the TEN COMMANDMENTS especially the one that says LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF. From some of the things that have been posted, YOU MUST NOT LOVE YOURSELVES!!!!! Last but definitely not least, read John 8:7 "If any one of you is WITHOUT SIN, let him be the first to throw a stone at him." Until you haved walked a mile in someone else's shoes, be careful what you say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yet another Bible thumping backwoodsman. Thanks for the Sunday School lesson, Standing_Tall! lol

You are quiet welcome single35. I appreciate the compliment. One thing is for sure, I Do Know where I am going when I die. DO YOU??? My Bible also speaks of those standing up for what is right and it states that we will have to go through trials and tribulations here on earth. Well I would rather suffer here on earth for standing up for what it right than BURNING IN HELL when I die. If you need a BIBLE, just let me know, I have an extra one that you can have.

No thank hun, I have my own. Believe it or not, when I pick it up and read it, I don't get burns on my hands and eyes either! Imagine that....lol!

Oh, btw....
Methamphetamine is a schedule II controlled substance. I do think Daryl knows that. He never struck me as being ignorant. Further more, who honestly has the "meth precursors sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, ethyl alcohol and camp fuel" just laying around their house...? hmmm...? Everyone knows what crystal meth is made of. Everyone also knows that possession of ANY schedule controlled substance without a prescription for it, along with have a GUN, is a felony. Just having the medication is a felony...let's just forget about the gun! Can you put your hand on your bible and tell a judge...beyond any reasonable doubt...that he wasn't involved in this in some way...? That he had NO IDEA!!! that there were drugs in that house when he stepped in there. I know a lot of people, and I also know that if I suspect they are using or abusing ANYTHING, I will not be around them. I don't care who they are to me or my family. I know that I have an obligation to my own immediate family, that I will not throw my life away for any reason.

So, please keep throwing the bible verses at me. It's fun to read them and to hear the anger in the tone of what you have typed.

Thanks for the laugh, I needed it! Oh, and I do know Daryl also. It's amazing that someone is just now catching on to him. Also, he's been reported to the Board of Nursing, so good luck to him walking out of this unscathed. Any other sarcastic comments..? Please, feel free to say them...they are extremely amusing to me!

It's amazing that single35 can predict the future and is able to determine that someone is backwood sight unseen. I guess you're one in a million. (PERFECT) you wish. I know that Darryl is a good nurse and person. This too shall pass. Prayer changes things. I'm pround to thump my bible whenever I can. It's not just decor in my home. Let us all remember Hate is a sin.
