Barr Brown

Services for Barr Brown, 50, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, near Waco, Texas, will be 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Natchez, with the Rev. Bill Hurt officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home, Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to service time Friday at the church.

Barr was born Sept. 4, 1956, in Natchez, the son of Jack and Martha Burns Brown. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1974 and was considered one of the best football players in the Natchez area. He walked on to play football at LSU, later earning a scholarship. His football career at LSU ended after suffering from knee injuries. He graduated from LSU in 1978 and went on to work at the Big 8 Accounting Firm of Arthur Young in Houston, Texas. From there he served as CFO for Kasler Corporation in San Bernadino, Calif. He worked in financial and corporate development positions in Palmetto, La., for Louisiana Seafood, and in Natchez, for Equity Corporation International. He had recently retired from LHC Group, based in Lafayette, La., as Partner, Senior Vice President, and CFAO. He is the owner of Doe’s Steakhouse of Lafayette, one of his more recent business ventures. He left tremendous marks in every capacity that he worked in his professional career.
He attended First Baptist Church of Natchez. Barr’s two greatest loves were his family and his work. He was also an avid sports fan and faithful follower of LSU sports. He had a great love and commitment to his third love, Trinity Episcopal, which incorporated much of his first love, for his family. You could always see him at sporting events on the sidelines, announcing from the press box, taping boys in the locker room or working anywhere and everywhere to lend a hand where it was needed. He was the number one supporter and fan of all Trinity students and athletes, but his three boys, Cole, Chase and Preston, were the driving force behind his commitment to Trinity. He had just begun a new legacy with his son, Jack Daylon, working to install a new playground. If time had permitted, he would have been seen on the sidelines or in the stands supporting him, as well. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, and friend, and will be missed more than words could ever describe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Martha Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Beth Brown of Natchez; sons, Cole Brown of Lafayette, Chase Brown and Jack Daylon, both of Natchez; stepson, Preston Parish of Natchez; sisters, RoAnn Powlett of Brandon and Jackie Ezell and husband, Ken, of Natchez; nephews, Steve Powlett and wife, Sandy, of Canton, Ben Powlett and wife, Lisa, of Brandon, and Jason Ezell and wife, Amie, of Lafayette; niece, Eden Ezell of Lafayette; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Sue Cooper of Rockville, Ind.; and brother-in-law, Jeff Cooper and wife, Brenda, of Rockville, Ind.

Pallbearers will be Steve Phillips, Michael Murphy, Rusty Brown, Jim Wilson, Greg Ketchings, David King, Duke Edwards,and Jo Jo Eidt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Mycra, and the LHC Family, Ken Beesley, Roy Garcia, and the Cathedral football team of 1974, Emmett Burns, Brian Miller, Jim Hunter, Rudy Wilson, Matt Mason and Johnny Rachal.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Day School at 1 Mallan Morgan Drive, Natchez, MS 39120.
