Daisy Frost Powell

1916 - 2007

Services for Daisy Frost Powell, 90, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Promise Specialty Hospital, in Ferriday, will be 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Revs. Steven Gibbs and Dayna Goff officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Powell was born May 15, 1916, in Adams County, the daughter of Edward Butler Frost and Daisy Shepard Frost. She was a 1934 graduate of Natchez High School and the captain of the Varsity Three Court Basketball Team. She joined Jefferson Street United Methodist Church at the age of 12, and often helped Miss Eva Stanley with the Prekindergarten children. In later years she transferred her membership to Grace United Methodist Church. She retired from Adams County Welfare Department in 1981.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Honor Robert Powell; a son, Robert M. “Bobby” Powell; brothers, Edward Lewis Frost, Harold Claude Frost, Earl Leland Frost, and Arthur Frederick “Buddy” Frost; sisters, Frances Baker, Evelyn Wise, Ruth Johnson and Jean Robertson.

Survivors include her sons, Roger S. Powell and Claude Lewis Powell and wife, Melissa; grandchildren, Tracey Lynn Powell, Robert Collen Powell, Brandon Allen Powell, Robert S. “Robbie” Powell, John Michael Powell, Joshua Shepard Powell, Amanda “Mandy” Powell, Deborah Louise Powell Gibbs, David Lewis Powell, Dustin Lee Powell and Chad Mason Thomas; 11 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Patricia Starnes Powell; sisters-in-law, Ruby Cooper Frost and Jackie Frost; a number of close nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Harold C. Frost Jr., William Myers, Chad Thomas, Josh S. Powell, John Michael Powell and Robbie Powell.
