Carrie Manuel, Ferriday

1930 - 2007

FERRIDAY — Services for Carrie Manuel, 77, of Ferriday, who died Monday, July 30, 2007, at her residence, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at New Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Birdon officiating.

Burial will follow at Ferriday Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home, Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ms. Manuel was born Feb. 12, 1930, in Sicily Island, the daughter of Oscar Manuel Sr. and Emma Ammons. She was a member of New Morning Star Baptist Church where she served on the Mother’s Board. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Aaron Manuel.

Survivors include her sons, Everett Davis and wife, Patricia, of Austin, Texas, Charlie Manuel and wife, Martha L., of Jackson, Anthony Manuel and wife, Mary, and Rufus Manuel and fiance’, Ruki’ya Lewis, all of Monroe, La.; a daughter, Dorothy Johnson of Ferriday; brother, Oscar Manuel and wife, Hannah, of Monroe; godmother, Pinkey Washington of Ferriday; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

I remember Mother Carrie's smile the first time I met her. How warm and friendly she was to me. I have thought of her often over the years.
A lot of time has passed since I have seem the family but I still remember you all. May God be your strength. We are praying for you.
