Margaret Cockrell Ming, Natchez

1917 - 2007

NATCHEZ — Services for Margaret Cockrell Ming, 90, of Natchez, who died Monday, July 30, 2007, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Benson, her daughter and son-in-law, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. William Judson Hurt officiating.

Burial will follow in the family plot at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the reception room at the church.

Mrs. Ming was born April 9, 1917, in Louisville. She was the daughter of Edgar Lee and Lucille Cockrell. She was graduated from Louisville High School in 1935. She was employed at Fox Drugs, King Economy, and Graham Hardware in Louisville prior to moving to Natchez.

She was an honorary member of the Pilgrimage Garden Club and an active member of the First Baptist Church where she was a greeter, a member of the prayer committee and a group leader in Rebekiah Sunday school class. Cooking and watching sports on television, especially football, were her favorite hobbies.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold S. Ming; and brothers, Billy Cockrell, Davis Cockrell and Joe Cockrell.

Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Ming Benson and husband, Jack, of Natchez; granddaughter, Jackie Benson Currie and husband, Paul, of Birmingham, Ala.; grandson, Jack Ward Benson and wife, Sharon, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Sarah Margaret Currie, Jack Benson Currie and David Paul Currie III of Birmingham, Zachary Benson, McKenzie Benson and Arrington Benson of Palm Harbor; a sister, Louise Metts of Louisville; brother, Jack Cockrell and wife, Annie, of Louisville; numerous nieces and nephews; and loving friend and caregiver of 30 years, Ruby Skipper.

Pallbearers will be Lynwood Easterling, Terry Estes, Gerry Jeter, Jay Jeter, Joseph Miles Jr., Wil Nolan, Charles Stephens, Hugh Ellis Walker and Dr. Bill Gore.

Memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society and Hospice Ministries.
