Arthur Ray Laing, Jonesville

1940 - 2007

JONESVILLE — Services for Arthur Ray Laing, 66, of Harrisonburg, who died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at his residence, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Bird’s Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Cotton officiating.

Burial will follow at Heard Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home, Jonesville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Laing was born Nov. 19, 1940, in Jonesville, the son Malcolm and Irene Laing. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 until 1986. During his time in the military, he reached the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was a Hurricane Hunter and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a probation officer for Catahoula Corrections facility for 3 1/2 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Laing of Harrisonburg; sons, Walter Laing and wife, Raquel, of Qwasso, Okla. and Andrew Laing and wife, Kristi, of Columbia, Mo.; brothers, Donnie Laing and wife, Glenda, of Harrisonburg and Mickey Laing and wife, Terry, of Mena, Ark. and grandchildren, Peyton and Macy Laing of Owasso, Okla. and Justin Cheatham and Reagan Laing, both of Columbia, Mo.

Pallbearers will be Lloyd Montpelier, Lee Breithaupt, Tommy Mayo, Pete Tolar, Raymond Rouse and John Loomis.
