Ruth S. Smith, Natchez

NATCHEZ — Services for Ruth S. Smith, 91, of Natchez, who died on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at her residence, will be at 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Revs. Diane Woodall and Wayne Spencer officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of William Scott and Pearl Orlena Darsey Starnes. She had lived in Natchez since 1967. She was a member of the Washington United Methodist Church, past matron of Natchez Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Golden 72 Homemaker Club, Friends 50 and Morgantown Baptist Caring Christian Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband; J. Harvey Smith; her parents; two sisters, Mary Pearl Phillips and Exermenia Turnage; and brother, Willie Starnes.

She was survived by her two sons; Roy H. Smith of Ethelsville, Ala. and Pete Smith of Natchez; daughters, Ruby Dickerson and Margie Whittington, both of Natchez; special nephew, Phillip R. Smith of Vaughn; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Inos Brumfield of Rodney; and her special friend and neighbor, Marie Dennis.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Whittington, Justin Smith, Derek Whittington, Jesse Smith, Jonathan Robinson and David Bell.

Memorials may be sent to the Washington United Methodist Church or to The Natchez Chapter Order of Eastern Star.

Pete, I am so sorry to hear about your mother. I often think about working with you and our days at the mill. I still miss Brother Harvey and Brother Walter in lodge. If I can help, please let me know, I would like to see you sometimes. Have a good day and God Bless. Tommy Myers

She will surely be missed. She was always a nice, bright spirited nieghbor and I wish there were more people like her. I am sorry that she is gone and my heart goes out to the family.
