Edith Hence

1938 - 2007

Services for Edith “Nell” Hence, 69, of Natchez, who died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at her residence, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Christian Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John Scott Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Paul AME Church Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Hence was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Adams County, the daughter of Hiram Hence Sr. and Celia Morris. She was retired from Isle of Capri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dan Hence; brothers, Carl Latham, James Hence, Hiram Hence, Charles Morris; and sister, Irene Murphy.

Survivors include a son, Leslie “Beanie” Hence; sisters, Alberta Watkins, Elsia Hence and Delores Bassett, all of Natchez; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; aunt, Helen Curtis; uncle, Alonzo Williams, all of Natchez; a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be George Davis, Ronald Hence, Lee Oscar Dixon, George Hence, Clint Dixon, and Wayne Hawkins.

You have my most sincere condolence!

I believe I may be a distant cousin. My grandmother was Eva Hence the daughter of Isiah (Julian) Hence and Elizabeth Cole-Hence of Jefferson then Adams, Mississippi. Eva married a DeFrance and a sister Josephine married a Woodfork. Another relative married into the Gaylor's.
