Charles M. "Chuck" Smith Jr.

1947 - 2007

NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Charles M. “Chuck” Smith Jr., Gulfbreeze, Fla., who died Friday, June 1, 2007, in Gulfbreeze, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Natchez City Cemetery.

Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 7, 1947, in Ferriday, the son of Charles M. Smith Sr. and Anita Craft Smith. He was a graduate of Natchez High School, the University of Southern Mississippi and Jackson School of Law. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed with South Central Bell until he opened Direct Mail Computer Service in Jackson. Chuck semi-retired and moved to Gulfbreeze where he started Pelican Bay Motors. He was with the waterfront mission there for 14 years. Chuck was a very driven person and loved business and his family. He was always looked up to for his knowledge and willingness to help others and was very well liked by all. He had a passion for expanding his knowledge in all aspects of study and enjoyed salt water fishing and loved the beach. Chuck was known by his family as “Sonny” and he will always be remembered in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert Joseph “Bob” Smith.

Survivors include his sons, Kevin Smith and wife, Julie, of Shoreham, N. Y. and Ross Joseph Smith of Gulfbreeze; daughter, Sunny Lynn Smith of Gulfbreeze; grandsons, Drew Smith of Fairhope, Ala. and Jake Smith of Shoreham, N.Y.; sister, Dixie Smith Staggs and husband, Lee, of Vidalia; nephew, Lee Staggs Jr. of Vidalia; nieces, Cashion Lea Staggs of Vidalia and Allison Hollis Ball and husband, Jeb, of Stapleton, Ala.; guardian angel, Tonia Chandler of Gulfbreeze.

Charlie, I still cannot believe you're not around for me to call any more. You were one of the best friends I've ever known and I miss you so much. You taught me so many things during the years I knew you, things I'll never forget. You were the master of so many things, not just business, but things about life and how to make the people around you smile.

You won't be forgotten.
