Mary Ruth Hunter

1934 - 2007

NATCHEZ — Services for Mary Ruth Hunter, 72, of Natchez, who died Monday, June 25, 2007, at Newport News Nursing and Rehab Center, in Newport New, Va., will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanford Cruel officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Archie C. Curtis Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Miss Hunter was born Aug. 19, 1934, in Hollandale, the daughter of James “Doc” Hunter and Alberta “Rosa” Thompson Hunter.

She was educated at Mount Olive High School, in Franklin County, and was a homemaker for several years. She worked as a machine operator for Allied Enterprise for several years.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Dock Hunter Jr.; and son, Bingham “Boogie” Hunter; and her longtime companion, Ellis “Coochie” Miller.

Survivors include her children, Don Hunter and wife, Debra, of Natchez, Doris J. Hawkes and husband, James, of Newport News, Va., Christine Cormier and husband, Larry, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Larry Hunter of Omaha, Neb.; sister, Florida B. Hunter of St. Louis; brother, Ernest Hunter of Oakland, Calif.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
