Kathleen Alford, Natchez

1921 - 2007

NATCHEZ - Services for Kathleen Alford, 85, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Dan Ratcliff officiating.

Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Enon Baptist Church, in Walthall County, with the Rev. David Hedden officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Alford was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Walthall County, the daughter of Parm and Nora O’Quinn Boyd. She was a member of Natchez First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gertrude Boyd McEwen and Wilma Boyd Cothern; brothers, Kenneth Boyd, Reginal Boyd, Adron Boyd and Arvilee Boyd.

Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Freeman of Jackson; grandson, Lee Havard of Natchez; granddaughter, Lori Austin and husband, Carter, both of Ferriday; great-grandsons, Hunter Havard of Natchez, John Carter Austin of Ferriday and Colby Fitzpatrick of Cornerville, Tenn.; great-granddaughters, Kaitlin Mullins and Lalie Havard, both of Natchez; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Louis Campbell, Carter Austin, Lee Havard, Walter Havard, Cecil Rainey and Andy Yates.

Honorary pallbearer will be Carey Boyd.

Brenda, I remember your Mom from when all us young couples were running around together. She was always so nice to me. I am so sorry for your loss. Mom's are so special. I miss mine every day even after a year and a half. Just remember all the happy times and fun you had with her. I don't know if she was sick before she died, but if so, try to remember before then. I have fond memories of Ms. Kathleen when I was starting out at the Natchez Democrat in the sales department. She always helped the new guys to get it right. She was a very sweet lady, I know she will be missed by all of you.
