NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Melvin Jones, 67, of Natchez, who died Sunday, April 6, 2008, in Natchez, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at George F. West Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Joseph officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Jones was born June 23, 1940, in New Orleans, the son of Elery and Lucille Jones. He was retired as an offshoreman and a truck driver. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mr. Jones was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include five children, Denetta Jones, Melvin Jones Jr. and wife, Denise, Kim Wright and husband, Melvin, all of New Orleans, Carla Jones of Germany and Leslie Bernard of Natchez; two adopted sons, Kendall and Kyle Jones, both of Natchez; six stepchildren, who he raised for 37 years as his own children, Brenda Washington and Deedra Madison and husband, Willie, all of Natchez, Earline Hawkins and husband, Lee, Lisa Bernard, Larry Bernard and Calvin Bernard, all of New Orleans; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
