Bessie Lee Vicks, Natchez

1924 - 2008

NATCHEZ - Services for Bessie Lee Vicks, 83, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Zion No. 1 Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernest Ford Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Vicks was born Nov. 26, 1924, in Sibley, the daughter of Andrew Washington Sr. and Alice Hayes Washington. Her employment included the Clarke Theatre and Natchez Trace Theatre. She was retired. Mrs. Vicks was a member of New Zion No. 1 Baptist Church and served on the mother’s board and occasionally had prayer meeting at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dan Vicks Sr.; one son, Lionel Vicks; one brother, Andrew Washington Jr.; and one sister, Ella Mae Granger.
Survivors include two sons, Dan Vicks Jr. and Kenny Vicks, both of Natchez; two daughters, Betty J. Vicks of Roxie and Lenora J. Vicks Thomas and husband, Stanley, both of Desoto, Texas; three sisters, Bertha Clayton and Mamie Granger and husband, James, all of Natchez, and Alice Taplin of St. Rose, La.; four brothers, Anderson Washington and wife, Leola, Leon Washington and Eli Washington and wife, Helen, all of Natchez, and Willie James Washington and wife, Marie, both of Avondale, La.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Cain, Frederick White, Robert Franklin, Gilfred Thomas, Arzell Green, Benajim Dukes and Jessie Turner.

Baby Sister, Betty Jean, Kenny and Dan Jr., This is your cousin "Jr" from across the street. I never know what to say at a time like this. So I will just say to you that I love you guys very much. You all know how much I love Cutin Bessie. She was one of my mothers on Daisy Street.

I will say to all of you guys, JOB WELL DONE. I know cutin Bessie was well taken care of in this life.
