Almedia Sturdivant Byrd, Gloster
1942 - 2008
GLOSTER - Services for Almedia Sturdivant “Faye” Brown, 66, of Gloster, who died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Field Memorial Community Hospital, in Centreville, will be at 11 a.m. today at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Max Foreman officiating.
Burial will follow at the Rosetta Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home in Gloster.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Byrd was born June 27, 1942, in Crosby, the daughter of Tommy G. “Tommy” and Ettie V. Arnold Sturdivant. She was secretary of the maintenance department of Adams County School District. She was a longtime resident of Amite County.
Mrs. Byrd was a graduate of the class of 1960 of Crosby High School. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend. She had no greater joy than that of being a precious grandmother. She loved the outdoors, gardening, fishing and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Rosetta Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, William Ray “Billy” Sturdivant and Mark Lavelle Sturdivant.
Survivors include her husband, William Edward Byrd of Natchez; one daughter, Charlotte Byrd Newcomb and husband, Jimmie “Tub”, both of Rosetta; one grandson, William Cory Newcomb of Rosetta; one granddaughter, Bethany Faye Newcomb of Rosetta; two sisters, Mary Francis Weatherly and Judy McGraw, both of Natchez; five brothers, David Sturdivant, of Perrytown, Griffin Sturdivant and wife, Deborah, both of Gloster, Virgil Sturdivant and Joseph Sturdivant, both of Rosetta, and James Sturdivant of Natchez; nine nephews; 11 nieces; a number of great-nieces, nephews and cousins; and a very special and longtime dear friend, Johnny McDonald of Rosetta.
Pallbearers will be David Sturdivant, Griffin Sturdivant, Virgil Sturdivant, Cory Newcomb, Greg Weatherly and Danny Fontaine.
Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation may make them to the American Arthritis Foundation or a charity of choice.
