Floyd Blanton was my father. I remember his huge hands. Mine are the same. He took us all fishing one summer. We drove around for hours looking for the right spot. Each time he would get out of the car, look over the water, and declare that it was no good. When he finally found the perfect spot we caught our limit in half hour. It was pretty amazing. I found a picture today of us at my graduation. He had on this baby blue polyester suit. The suit was awful but it was a beautiful day. I was so grateful that he was there. You are missed and loved.

When I was a child my Uncle Floyd was a strong presence in our family. He had the body structure of Hercules and the hands of a giant. He in fact gave me my nickname of “Catfish” because I had a knack of bringing in the big ones. When I became an adult I did not often see my uncle expect for when I traveled home to Natchez and occasionally when I attended local family functions. One year to the surprise of both of us. He was attending a class reunion that I was the disc jockey for. He was so proud of me and I was happy he had an opportunity to see me do my thing. I will truly miss his charismatic larger then life personally, his crazy dance moves and his out-of-control meals. Most of all, I will just miss him because he always made me feel welcome in only the way he could do. Those that knew will understand what I’m saying. This is a huge loss to our family and he will be missed until we meet again.

((MisterJ)) I understand what you're saying. Paw and my mother are first cousins. He loved to talk and cook! He could also "cut a rug", too (with those funny dances)!
We will miss him so much, especially at our family reunions. He was a great cook who made a "mean" gumbo!!! My cousin, Barbara, knows it, first hand, how good he could cook. Our family has/had many great cooks.
Some of the fondest memories I have are of our extended family sharing meals. Folks would stop by to get a little bit of this, and a little bit of that and we would sit around and talk for hours.
One of my most treasured memories of my aunt Roxanna, Barbara's mother, is the food she prepared for us every day after our day at high school ended. Everything she prepared, we LOVED . . . even the hamburgers, hot dogs, sheet cake, fries, etc. just made you want to eat your fingers -- it tasted so good!!!! I believe Aunt Roxanna's and Paw's food was so good because it was prepared with love! Love is the glue that has always held our family together.
((caitlinabel), I'm not sure that we've met but I'm looking forward to getting to know you much better. Know that you are loved.

My uncle was one in a million. He was such a lovable and caring person and yes, an excellent cook. We often would sit around with him laughing and talking and just enjoying the love that has been instilled in us from our grandparents. We have had a tremendous loss yet we have so much to be thankful for and so many memories to hold on to.

I have many memories of my Uncle Floyd. I know that he was a great cook and a lot of fun to be around. I remember many of the fishing trips and just hanging around his house with my Cousins. A few funny thoughts pop in to my head when I think of him.He made a great impact on my son Micalo Blanton he really enjoyed hanging out with his great uncle. He has so many fond memories of fishing with him and his Grandfather (Willie Blanton).Every time he came home from a visit to Mississippi he had so many funny things to say about how he enjoyed Uncle Floyd. I am grateful for that because he now has those memories and they will last him a lifetime. He has stories to pass on to the next generation. He has also been walking around the house imitating all of the dance moves(we know the ones) and talking about him non stop.I will miss you Uncle Floyd but I am gratefull for the time I had with you and I know you are in a better place....you will be missed.
