Betty Gene Nabours Janette, Alexandria, La.
1929 - 2009
ALEXANDRIA, La. — Services for Betty Gene Nabours Janette, 80, of Alexandria, La., who died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, in Natchez, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Thacker and Dr. Lee Weems officiating.
Burial will follow at Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home in Alexandria.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Janette was born Aug. 14, 1929, in Poland, La., the daughter of Lawrence and Lucille Nabours, the stepdaughter of Gertrude Nabours and the sister of Joseph Nabours.
Betty Nabours married George William Janette Nov. 20, 1955, in Natchez. She was a graduate of Louisiana State University where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Eventually, she earned a master’s degree from the Louisiana State University in Alexandria.
Betty Janette was an educator for 26 years, working with both middle school and alternative-setting students. During her time as an educator, she served on the Louisiana State Textbook Adoption Committee and was invited to serve on Governor Buddy Roemer’s Educational Advisory Board.
Mrs. Janette was a devout Baptist and devoted much of her free time to volunteer work at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Alexandria. In addition to dedicating herself to her church and others, she also was a dedicated fan of Louisiana State University athletics, New Orleans Saints football and all athletes who had once been her students.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth M. Janette and wife, Ann, and Jeffrey J. Janette and wife, Katrina; seven grandchildren, Kenneth Luke Janette and wife, Lynn, Ginger Michelle Skates and husband, Jeremy, Russell Brooks Barmer, William Turner Janette, Hannah Lee Cutrera, Elizabeth Erin Janette and William Garrett Janette; three great-grandchildren, Kenneth Ryan Skates, Elizabeth Eloise Skates and Halle Grace Janette; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Janette Lemaire and husband, Paul.
Pallbearers will be Luke Janette, Russell Barmer, Turner Janette, Kenny Brown, Jeremy Skates and Mike Lahaye Jr.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Anderson, Hospice nurse Ann Cobb and assistant Latoya Pickett.
The family request memorials be sent to the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 430 Jackson St., Alexandria, LA 71301.
