No, race should not matter. Our President should be able to lead, know foreign policy and strive to keep us safe while entertaining ideas of change for Social Security for the younger people. Both candidates appear qualified.

Natchez Democrat, you should be ashamed of yourselves. This is comparable to Jay Leno walking around asking questions of people on the street. (insert little yellow smiley face here)

Looks like its an issue with Annett go figure.

Yes race is a big issue. A lot of people will vote for Obama just because he is black. They will overlook the fact that he has ties with the muslim community, knows nothing about foreign policy or national security. McCain is by far the better choice. McCain has a long and proven record.

I don't think there is any such thing as a pure race here in America. The lines have been crossed in every direction and besides there are so many problems that race should be pretty far down the list. Then again this is Mississippi.
Posted by destiny (anonymous) on August 21, 2008 at 9:02 a.m.
Wisdom comes with maturity. Obama, should he win, will be because the Blacks think of him as Black and will do whatever they can to get him elected at whatever cost. They do not care one iota whether he is qualified or not, as long as he's Black. Ask any Black person to state Obama's platform and you will find out the truth. He was not born in America, did not grow up in America and on top of it all is a confessed drug user. This statement comes from his very own mouth. But the Blacks will rush to push the 'dooms day' bottom in his favor.

To rattlesnake and destiny:
You really should do your homework and stop using republican talking points. If you would do a little research you would find that:
1. Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii which IS in the U.S. McCain was born in the Panama Canal zone which is NOT in the U.S.
2. Obama traveled and lived all over the world with his mother when he was a kid. He attended a Catholic school which happened to have Muslim kids in attendance. (Have neither of you ever attended a school with someone from a different race, nationality, or religion? And if you did, did it make you guilty by association?)
3. McCain was born into a military family but, failed in every way to measure up to his family's standards...he finished 5th from the bottom of his class!
4. McCain crashed several planes while in the military and was finally shot down and captured! Does being a POW automatically qualify you to be president of the U.S.?
5. McCain has had only 1 job in his life, prior to going to the Senate and that was working at his current wife's family brewery...is this experience a qualifier?
6. McCain is an adulterer who left his ailing 1st wife and kids (who had waited on him for 5 yrs) for a younger, rich woman. His 1st wife was willing to accept him with all of his disabilities but, he couldn't reciprocate. (Does this qualify him?)
7. McCain got into the Naval Academy because of his father and grandfather. He made it to Congress because of his 2nd wife's family's connections in Arizona. What has he done on his own merit? N-O-T-H-I-N-G!!!
McCain is a warmonger and unless you and the rest of your family are ready to fight in wars for years to come, you'd better think twice about voting for him. (And don't come with all the patriotic b.s. because if war is what you want, don't wait for him to start up the draft, go and enlist now!) Don't be so "small-minded" and vote for McCain simply because he is white. Know the issues before you cast your vote!

To Destiny:
Please state McCain's platform. Tell me something other than the fact that he is white and that he wants to continue Bush's screwed up policies.

Yes, no matter what they say race is a big issue for many -- but indirectly. Look at destiny's and rattlesnake's comments above -- it smacks of a certain dishonesty to accuse blacks of racism as if they have no brain to choose otherwise or cannot vote based on their convictions otherwise.
Another issue destiny brought up has to do with something many of us are tired of from Obama's opponents -- becoming electable through smears that are just stupid or dishonest.
Obama's voluntary admittance of childhood drug use does not make him a drug user in the real sense anymore than George' Bush's more profound problems with drugs and alcohol made him a drug user while in the White House. But Bush chose before election to refuse to talk about his problems and sought to hide them, and Obama admitted his. That shows character and honesty, both of the candidates and of the people who support them.
Anybody who is honest will admit the culture of whites around here that has been trained to vote against the blacks no matter what. Making a false issue of calling Democrats communists and socialists is a way to scratch the racist itch without admitting it. Actually Republicans have shown us what big spenders they really are and have run the country into debt -- every time since Reagan -- when they had the chance, and support many more Big Government powers. Their power base has a tuff time admitting that, too.
Actually, Obama is the best chance for change in Washington, no matter race or party.
I am happy that Obama is who he is. I am also happy that blacks can share this racial milestone. He appears to be far smarter and more honest and able than the present occupant of the White House and he thinks far faster than his opponent.

Destiny, since you brought up past drug use, it might be fair to let you know that McCain's wife was a HUGE drug addict. She even stole drugs from her own nonprofit medical relief organization.
Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on August 21, 2008 at 1:56 p.m.
You know, both parties have idiots on board, but I am glad to see the violent reaction against misinformation campaigns -- in other words lies and intentional misemphasis about Obama's muslim past, and now his drug use when young.
There is one racial issue I do not think got the attention it deserves.
When in 2000 McCain and Bush faced off in the South Carolina primary SOMEBODY launched a last minute talking points campaign on the local talk radio shows about McCain's Black Love child referring to an adopted child of his. There was no truth to the black love child slurs and implication, but it helped to turn some away from McCain and Bush won the primary. It was a lot like the Swift Boat campaign used against Kerry that is Karl Rove politics to the tee. Increasingly it is Republican politics, since they cannot run on a record they have to lie about their opponents. It is low to lie about your record but snake-belly low to lie about an opponent's racial tolerance or his morals.
McCain reportedly got fighting mad, then ended up supporting Bush. I see that as a remarkable statement of cowardice in the man. For McCain to know this sort of lying cowardice in Bush and then to support him as president makes McCain one of the low notches on my totem pole.
I think he would be a good uncle or a decent senator, but on moral issues he fails with me. If McCain can't even speak out to his own supporters and own party members more truthfully he will fail as a moral president. Tolerating lying about others makes all the other errors of judgment too easy.

Still no comment about Obama's platform!!!!! But you know so much about McCain. Gee whiz, all this from the Blacks who will be voting for someone who is not qualified for office. At Obama's birth, Hawaii was not an American state. But still it does no good to argue politics. Obama may make a good president some day and when that day comes I will be more than happy to vote for him, but I will not vote for him just because he's Black. He needs more experience. 'Nuff' said on my part. Have a nice day.

rattlesnake - The site you referenced is not a real news organization.
Muslims kill us because we come to their countries and install leaders, use our military, and hurt their people for continued access to oil.
Even then it is only extremists that wish to strike us back.
Obama seeks to limit our military presence in useless wars in the Middle East, thereby reducing reprisal attacks. That is why Obama seeks to wean us off of oil faster than McCain would.
John McCaain wants to win militarily wherever we go for whatever reason therefore keep reprisals coming since he will never kill all the extremists. He uses standard warfare strategy when these are not standard wars.
Even on the "surge" issue McCain misstates Obama's position. Obama says militarism will not work and the surge is a nonissue. That the surge would not have worked if we had not paid 80,000 Iraqi Sunnis $10 per day NOT to attack us.
McCain considers buying off the enemy to be part of what he calls the surge, even though the surge is presented as an increase in troops. Obama says that the payments were not the same thing and could have been made without sending more Americans.
So you see, McCain's statements take advantage of a difference he does not tell you about. Obama's position makes much more sense.
You need to watch what you read on the internet and visit sites that do not stroke your prejudices.

Destiny, I know you didn't just claim that the folks who responded to you were blacks. I'm not.
I'm white as they come, and better yet I am well connected with plenty of other whites of all beliefs and both parties. I know how they feel and why they feel that way. So I wrote what was important. Just because no-one spells things out for you does not mean they do not know the answer. Perhaps the things you write make people NOT want to approach you as if you were capable of a productive dialog? So they write to tell you what stands in the way of talking with you straight up.
In my opinion, McCain has a sloppier plan than Obama, and if you would like to read Obama's platform there are many sources on the web. One of McCains dishonest talking points was to claim Obama was against more domestic fuel sources and that filling your tires was the totality of Obama's plan. McCain's people lie because there are people like you who are very easy to confuse, no offense. But that shouldn't entitle the man to public office.

Destiny you keep asking about Obama's platform...although you should do your own homework, I'll give you his platform and McCain's too.
1. Obama: Wants to end the war (responsibly) and yes rattlesnake, he voted to continue funding the war. Was he NOT suppose to support our troops while they are in harm's way?
McCain: Wants to continue the war, maybe, even for 100 hundred years he said. Because he is a warmonger he doesn't understand that those people are fighting a civil war and we cannot win it! Not to mention, they don't want us there!
2. Obama: Wants to end Bush's tax cuts to the wealthy. If you make less than $250,000 a year, you will NOT see a tax increase. But, if you make more than 250,000 a yr. you will see a tax increase.
McCain: Wants to continue Bush's tax cuts. At first he said he was against Bush tax cuts but, now he's for them. (He'll say anything and do anything to win!)
3. Obama: Wants to reform the bankruptcy laws to protect working people and stop rewarding CEO's of bankrupt companies with millions of dollars in bonuses.
McCain: Thinks that these CEO's should be rewarded.
4. Obama: Wants to provide healthcare for every American by making premiums more affordable and by assisting those who cannot afford it.
McCain wants to provide tax breaks to insurance companies in hopes that they will decrease premiums.
5. Obama: Wants to fix NAFTA so that all of our jobs are not going overseas and he wants to end Bush's tax breaks to these companies that ship jobs overseas.
McCain: Wants to continue these tax cuts.
6. Obama: Wants to save social security by not using its funds to fund a senseless war.
McCain: Wants to privatize it, like Bush wanted to do.
These are just a few of the things that Obama is running on. He also wants to create renewable energy and green jobs to end our dependency on oil. He wants to invest in America's infrastructure so that we don't have more bridges collapsing like the one in Minnesota. McCain wanted to give a gas tax holiday which would have taken money from the fund which is used to fund our roads and bridges to try and fool the American people into believing that it would help save on gas.
If you need more info on his platform (or McCain's for that matter) you just let me know.
Also, he plans to pay for all of this with the money saved from ending the Iraq war and ending Bush's tax cuts, and believe me..it'll be more than enough!

Hey Y'all, George Washington warned this country about developing political parties and the damage they (plural) would do. His quote: "The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism." Its a shame we didn't pay attention. We get nowhere when each side thinks their party can do no wrong and the other party is motivated by evil intentions.

Dr. Jack Wheeler Regarding Obama
Jack Wheeler is a brilliant man who was the author of Reagan's strategy to break the back of the Soviet Union with the star wars race and expose their inner weakness. For years he wrote a weekly intelligence update that was extremely interesting and well structured and informed. He consults(ed) with several mega corporations on global trends and the future, etc. I think he is in semi-retirement now. He is a true patriot with a no-nonsense approach to everything. He is also a somewhat well known mountain climber and adventurer.
Written by Dr. Jack Wheeler
The O-man, Barack Hussein Obama, is an eloquently tailored empty suit. No resume, no accomplishments, no experience, no original ideas, no understanding of how the economy works, no understanding of how the world works, nothing but abstract empty rhetoric devoid of real substance.
He has no real identity. He is half-white, which he rejects. The rest of him is mostly Arab, which he hides but is disclosed by his non-African Arabic surname and his Arabic first and middle names as a way to triply proclaim his Arabic parentage to people in Kenya . Only a small part of him is African Black from his Luo grandmother, which he pretends he is exclusively.
What he isn't, not a genetic drop of, is 'African-American,' the descendant of enslaved Africans brought to America chained in slave ships. He hasn't a single ancestor who was a slave. Instead, his Arab ancestors were slave owners. Slave-trading was the main Arab business in East Africa for centuries until the British ended it.
Let that sink in: Obama is not the descendant of slaves, he is the descendant of slave owners. Thus he makes the perfect Liberal Messiah.
It's something Hillary doesn't understand - how some complete neophyte came out of the blue and stole the Dem nomination from her Obamamania is beyond politics and reason. It is a true religious cult, whose adherents reject Christianity yet still believe in Original Sin, transferring it from the evil of being human to the evil of being white.
Thus Obama has become the white liberals' Christ, offering
absolution from the Sin of Being White. There is no reason or logic behind it, no faults or flaws of his can diminish it, no
arguments Hillary could make of any kind can be effective against it. The absurdity of Hypocrisy Clothed In Human Flesh being their Savior is all the more cause for liberals to worship him: Credo quia absurdum, I believe it because it is absurd.
Thank heavens that the voting majority of Americans remain
Christian and are in no desperate need of a phony savior.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on August 22, 2008 at 9:41 a.m.
I dont think either of the candidates are any good. Obama's promises are like artificial sweetener that is slowly wearing off. His promises remind me of a child's dream of what they want to be when they grow up. Example: One of his promises is to have the US COMPLETELY independent of foreign oil in 10 years! WHAT??? How would that occur when 99% of everything we use in daily life requires petroleum. Oh sure, we could find energy elsewhere right? Corn for example? Where are we going to grow that much corn for 305 million people? And how are we going to grow it without machinery which uses oil for lubrication? Granted there is a small amount of oil (relative to Saudi Arabia) in the GOM and Alaska, but we have to get to it first and right now we can't even do that!
As for McCain, well he was a POW and knows war if anyone does. But from what I gather, he has a hot temper and is set in his ways. He would probably keep us in war, hopefully in Afghanistan. BUT the Taliban will just run and hide somewhere else.
Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on August 22, 2008 at 11:02 a.m.
Sorry but Obama doesn't have the credentials to become the leader of the most powerful nation (for now) in the world. No matter what color he is, even if McCain was black, the truth of the matter is still evident. Obama has not been in active military, and only has paper documents to show for his achievements. Not to mention he is young and full of empty promises.
Posted by rburke1 (anonymous) on August 22, 2008 at 11:45 a.m.
Race should have nothing to do with it. You could cut them all to pieces put 'em in a sack and shake it out and you'd still have the same pile you started. Tree extremely important and dangerous issues that Bush, Obama, and McCain support: 1. A one world government 2. Support for Georgia (the one next to Russia) 3. Not protecting our southern border.
Wake up America. Our 2 party dominators are making a fool of all of us while they squander this country's liberty to perpetuate themselves in power.
Bob Barr is my man. The Libertarian.

Who is "WE"? This says it all, people will vote for Obama because they perceive him to be black.

The fact that Obama was not man enough to even try to answer the question of "When does life begin?" told me a lot about him. The best answer he could come up with is "that's above my pay grade". What a cop out. He claims he is a Christian, which (if it were true) would mean that he believes life begins at conception (as McCain said so well). The bible says that we (christians) are in the world but we (christians) are not of the world. It's pretty obvious to me after Saturday's forum that Obama is very much "of the world". I don't care if you are black, white, purple or orange, if you are not strong enough to stand up for what you believe (or claim to believe) is right, then you are not getting my vote because what are you going to do when Russia backs you into a corner?
Sorry, but I'm voting for McCain. He may have changed his mind on some issues, but we all do as we become more educated and grow older. I don't want the same things at 30 that I wanted when I was 18. And that is because I am older and wiser. We all have a right to change our mind and opinion but if we truly believe in something, we will stand up for it.

Good one momof1, that's a very good example of Obama's misguided approach to foreign relations. Let's disarm ourselves, particularly now that Russia seems to be losing control. SCARY SCARY OBAMA!
Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on August 22, 2008 at 3:02 p.m.
The truth is Obama wants to go be friends and allies with everyone, and that sounds wonderful. BUT not everyone in this world LOVES the United States. If fact, other countries probably hate us. And, it is just a matter of time before we are stabbed in the back and TAKEN DOWN so another country (Iran, Russia) can become the powerful and almightly.
McCain knows war and knows how to fight. And if that means costing us how ever many billions of dollars to defend our country from destruction, we need to all be for it. Otherwise, we are going down, plain and simple.
Posted by happybunny (anonymous) on August 22, 2008 at 3:31 p.m.
Disarmament was the word chosen by Obama. I do feel that we are excessive in our defense spending and for that matter, the overall expenditures of the government, however, the answer is not to disarm ourselves, particularly when you've got radical leaders in North Korea, China, Russia, and the Middle East to consider. We cannot show any form of weakness to these countries, yet Obama is announcing to the world that he plans to disarm America. Again SCARY SCARY OBAMA!

Yes the Joint Chiefs say we can't afford another conflict. A lot of people are too stupid to see how that could be.
One type of person says whoever fights most and quickest is the best defender.
Other people say the person that fights when necessary has saved himself and his troops for real danger.
I know that's too complicated for a lot of people.
Funny, it's the same people that tend to excuse the killing of the quick to war and claim they are pro life by stopping abortions only for poor people.
I think the key is that they don't mind killing foreigners, and they have no problem telling a poor person they must bear a child. Wealthier people can get an abortion no matter what.
Political conservatives are hypocrites. Real conservative don't want to use government for anything they don't have to. Political conservatives prey on those dumb enough to believe that they can control other folks through bombs and questionable moral laws. There -- did I call a spade a spade?
Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on August 22, 2008 at 7:26 p.m.
I'm sorry if I used terms too nasty.
I get really tired of people excusing the taking of life unnecessarily -- simply for our economic interests and using US dollars -- and then acting as if they had to do it for our security. I think it's dishonest. Most of the time we do not have to go to war, we do it for oil or for ideology.
If a person insists they cannot afford mentally, economically or emotionally to birth another child, I do not see the government as entitled to say they must without providing the funds for it. Even the government will kill innocent people so it is not the sacredness of life at issue. Whenever we loosen pollution laws we choose to end innocent life for our convenience. And I do not think it is right for the govenment to provide the funds for bearing the child as that creates another problem, so my take is to keep government as far out of the decision as possible -- and present laws do that.
When the Supreme Court ends up saying that reproductive rights do not extend to women as they have in the past and the states can do what they want, the only thing that will means is that those people who cannot afford to travel for the procedure must bear their children. The wealthy will do what they want.

I will vote for neither, but vote what's best for this country, and that means either Libertarian or Constitution party.
Neither McCain or O'bama have the 'cajones' to be the leader of the free world. And, that's what we need today, not some slick talking 'all hat and no cattle' (O'bama) or an ex-POW who hasn't held a real job outside the fed gov in his entire life.

It's idealistic to think that we can get someone from that party elected. It will not happen. I agree, the GOP has not had a strong candidate in several years but I have to stand with my party. The democrats are all about tax and spend, I personally feel that I have been taxed enough and that the folks that are benefiting from my hard earned tax dollars need to get a job and contribute something to society.

It is too funny and yet sad that most of you are willing to vote against your own economic interests, simply because you dislike someone because of the color of his skin.
It is quite obvious by your lack of knowledge on the issues, among other things, that most of you are uneducated and economically disadvantaged (i.e., don't have a pot OR a window). But yet you would rather vote for someone who really don't care about your struggles.
Do any of you ever wonder why Mississippi remains at the bottom in EVERYTHING? It's because of sheer ignorance like this!
Stop being lazy and do some research to find out what Obama is really about. Stop watching cartoons (i.e FOX news) and find out the truth about him.
I believe most of you are afraid to know the truth about him for fear that you just might like him and like what he stands for!!

I believe that Obama is a Muslim. The Muslim world has say that they will destroy America from the inside. That alone is enough for me to vote McCain. I can't believe that there are so many Americans that is willing to vote a Muslim in as President of The United States.
Posted by gardenflower (anonymous) on August 24, 2008 at 9:27 a.m.
Carefully read between the lines and listen to just what Obama is saying...this man who states he is a Citizen of the World!!
It all adds up to a socialistic agenda.
He wants to tax us out of prosperity and redistribute wealth. He supports the Global Poverty Act which would mean additional taxes for every American in order to stop poverty around the world. He advocates massive tax hikes to pay for his trillion dollar spending. He wants to take part of Big Oil's tax profits and give every American $1000
He has associations with America-hating preachers (Jeremiah Wright and Michael Pfleger), terrorists and radicals (William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn) and a mentor (Frank Davis) who was a member of the Moscow-controlled Communist Party USA and who, according to Investor's Business Daily, "fled Chicago after the FBI and Congress opened investigations into his 'subversive,' 'un-American activities.
He and his wife both scare the hell out of me.

I think Gardenflower's piece represents a trend in American thinking that is disturbing. That trend is the increasing concept of guilt by ideology, guilt by association, and guilt by overarching judgement. People who use this thinking shortcut have most often drunk the Koolaid offered by the GOP, because conservatives are particularly susceptible to black or white judgemental ways of seeing. God bless em.
In this scenario, people label folks, then stop thinking. Or only think enough to flesh out their judgements and feel right.
For years the GOP has tried to convince people that Democrats are socialists while the real truth is that there is less difference between what the parties will do to personal liberties and in the level of spending. If anything Republicans have spent more toward big government when given the chance, but there is a different flavor to how they go about doing things.
In fact Democrats arguably stand up more for personal rights and personal civil rights than Republicans. Queers and minorities and other folks that are not mainstream are the frequent beneficiaries and the ordinary person often is miffed by that.
Yet Democrats stand up for and need free enterprise, too, and during the last 28 years or so the brief time Democrats have been in the White House have been some of the most prosperous years for ordinary folks and have been the only time the budget was balanced. Democrats then pushed through NAFTA and implemented the main legal moves that sought to eliminate deadbeats from the welfare rolls.
Republican big government uses prisons, police and military to keep people in line, then they wish to financially empower the most wealthy in the disproven concept that this alone is necessary to keep the economy moving. The last 8 years shows that that only really helps those who don't really need the help -- and they ran us almost into bankruptcy to do it. The money DOES NOT trickle down, something the socialism fearing crowd has a tough time admitting.
Democrats prefer to keep people equipped and happy enough to pursue productivity and if they give financial favors they do it for people who can help themselves less.
cont'd...
Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on August 24, 2008 at 10:49 a.m.
That is what the two groups try to do, anyway.
I think people's tendency to judge imperfectly is the problem and let's face it if you don't know the details of government then the overarching judgemental finger pointing has to be general. You are too easy to fool like that -- even to the point you could be fooled into thinking Democrats would give you less liberty. That's the Original Sin the Bible warned us against -- the fruit of the tree of good and evil -- hasty and fallacious judgement -- which the ancient Jews knew was our human weakness since before Christ. Everyone must judge to make it in this world, but those who judge bigger and faster are the ones most likley to be fooled, and they take a thinking shortcut that leads just to the place where they are sure they are right, but don't know many of the facts.
That's why you don't see many Democrats calling Republicans fascists but you do see a lot of Republicans calling Democrats socialists or communists.

OK, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I was raised with the Bible. I tend to lean on it for security, hope, love, faith, BELIEF, and KNOWLEDGE. From the Bible readers and believers in Jesus, I'm sure there will be very few votes for Obama...his description fits too perfectly into place in the end time revelations.
I sure don't want to be standing there with my finger in my mouth wishing I had believed the words of the Bible. "It's too late, kpage...you should have believed my Word. The signs were there and you turned your back on me". I just pray that eyes are opened, but alas, there is still hope. Many will be called BUT FEW CHOSEN.
I hope to not get bashed for believing in God, but I will. There will be those who SAY they believe but will still want this New World Order. It's only confusion set up for you to fall for. Just pick up the Bible, if you say you believe, and allow the words to speak to your heart. Only then will your eyes open.

gardenflower stated above that Obama says he is a "Citizen of the World". That statment tells me that Obama wouldn't have America as top priority. I am an American and I want a president that will put America first.
If Obama is elected (God forbid) Muslims (radical or not) all over the world will rejoice. Then you might as well roll out the red carpet for the terrorist. Because according to the video that momof1 put the link to above (http://macsmind.com/wordpress/2008/06/08...) Obama wants to disarm America.
I can see it now they will start teaching the karan in our schools where the Bible or God is no longer welcome.
Just so everyone knows I'm not saying that all Muslims or terrorist.

Obama is ONLY getting votes because he is black! How many blacks do you honestly think will really vote for McCain? EVEN those that are Republican will be turning Democrat this time simply because "One of their own" is running for our Commmander in Chief! And WHY? What exactly folks has Obama done?
Posted by reb1843 (anonymous) on August 25, 2008 at 10:55 a.m.
HappyBunny, I understand the concept of not throwing one's vote away by voting for a 3rd party candidate. However, my conscious will not allow me to vote for McCain, and certainly not O'bama. Neither puts America first. Neither has done a thing for this country in a meaningful way (not counting McCain's service in 'Nam). We no longer have 'leaders' as before: we have people who will sell their souls to the devil for a vote. They will not get mine. I will write in Roy Rogers or John Wayne before I'd vote for either of these idiots.

Politics is the lesser of evils game.
You have one side that tells you lies made simple enough for the simple to understand, then does what they want to like they have for the last 8 years. You pay. They know you won't look for the details of if they are right and they take advantage of you.
You have one party that says they are for Bible believers, but then they lie more and more often than the other side, they kill unnecessarily, they spend more money than the other side but point their finger and call the other side big spenders.
One party says they are against abortion but only offer to make it difficult for the most poor in some states to obtain abortions. They know their children can afford to go wherever it takes if they need one. Meanwhile not only does that party kill more folks for oil and politics, it is the party that lies to cover up that killing most often.
They are the party of blame. They blame others as their major strategy. If they ruin government for 8 years they have the gall to blame the other side -- because they think the people that vote for them are too stupid to notice.
Then you have the other side -- a party that has not had a chance to govern for 8 years, and the 8 years before that did a great job that would make the present president envious to claim he did so well. This other side you don't know how good they would do, because we have not let them loose for 8 years because we have been scared to death that reprisals against the present party for their killing will rain down upon us.
Your choice is the certainly corrupt party led by an old man who nearly failed at military schooling then got caught by the enemy and has been disliked by his own party for years. On the other hand you have a bunch of politicans you have not tried ever, who just might be able to tell you what the crooks did for this last 8 years and fix it.
My bet is most adults in Mississippi don't have the brains to re-think anything and will vote the way they always did -- whatever they think is opposite the way the blacks will vote. Then they will utter a few lines to pretend they thought about it.

natchezsouthside- I never said Obama was anti-American. I said Obama wouldn't have America as a top priority.
I don't recall Reagan saying that he was a citizen of the world but I believe you when you say that he did.
I know the next part of your post was not directed at me but, I'm not voting for McCain because Obama is black. One of the reasons I am voting for McCain is because I believe Obama is a Muslim 1st and American 2nd or 3rd who knows. I hope if he's elected I'm wrong.
Also how do you know what you read on Obama's web site is the whole truth. I'm not saying McCain tells the truth about everything. Every 4 years the American people hear nothing but lies. I found out years ago when I first started voting that politicians don't do anything near what they say they will. Republican or Democrat.

I'm not sure why anyone believes Obama is a Muslim. There is no basis in fact to believe that. But even if he were, we have Muslims throughout our government. We haved a huge muslim population in the US. There are muslims working on Capital Hill and in federal offices all over Washington. No doubt there are a bunch in Jackson in gov't too. I'm not sure what a person's religious affiliation has to do with anything related to our government.
You don't have to limit your research to Obama's site. There are plenty of blogs etc vetting both candidates.

I am saying that because I have heard him speak for many years, and he is much slower than he once was. He -- pauses -- tooooo -- long --- between --- his ----- words --- so -- he --- doesn't --- make --- more --- mistakes. His PR team thinks it makes him sound fatherly and wise but we all know his is just talking slow.
I remember back when Bush was in the middle of his tenure I used to look at McCain and say -- "I wish he was my president instead of Bush".
That was back when he was a Republican maverick and was one of the few that had the cahones to tell that the king was wearing no clothes. Unfortunately he flip flopped to rake up the poor desperate Bush supporters so he has even a prayer of winning the election.
He supported Bush after Bush and Rove circulated that untrue rumor about his black love child in election 2000 so I figure McCain is a gelding who has lost his manhood.

"My belief is that the truth is a truth until you organize it, and then becomes a lie. I don't think that Jesus was teaching Christianity, Jesus was teaching kindness, love, concern, and peace. What I tell people is don't be Christian, be Christ like. Don't be Buddhist, be Buddha like."
Happybunny did you mean to quote a liberal ideologue?
Dyer's statement is a restatement of the liberal theological mindset. Conservative Christian theology centers on redemption and reward for worship. McCain's offering on his faith was the conservative quip that he was saved.

Let me just say this, John McCain isn't the only one in the McCain family who is forgetful...seems that Cindy has forgotten to mention her sister, Kathleen, and speaks of herself as an only child. While her sister, the child of Cindy's father by a previous marriage, lives in a humble abode, Cindy has 8 homes which each cost close to a million dollars. Cindy was left the bulk of her daddy's 100s of millions dollar estate, and her poor sister, Kathleen, only got $10,000.

Just let me say this, Obama was raised in America, except for the few years he spent in Indonesia with his mother and stepdad. His mother sent him back to Hawaii to live with his white grandma where he attended a private school. Obama has never been a muslim. My cousins lived in Indonesia next door to Obama's moma and went to school with Obama's sister, and my cousins are Christians.
My daddy was a Christian too, and a member of the Klu Klux Klan, right here in Natchez, MS, and I PLAN TO VOTE FOR OBAMA. David Duke was daddy's favorite conehead politician and he would have loved for Duke to become president.

Everyone can say it shouldn't be about race or race doesn't matter. Well tell that to anyone how hasn't lived in the south their whole life; maybe then someone might listen to you. Myself and most other white people had nothing to do with it. My family didn't cause any of the pain they've endured. I don't owe anyone; black or white a thing. Things are the way they are and no one man can fix it; but he can sure as hell make it worse. Does anyone remember Jimmy Carter?
The white people who don't vote for him are racist and black voters who do are unified. What's wrong with this? I for one think neither is an option but it's all we have. That being said anyone who votes for Obama has lost their mind.
Here's why:
Bill Ayers a long time friend and liberal professor currently teaching our young. In the 60's he lead a Communist faction called the Weatherman. Research it. Researh Days of Rage too. in 70 he helped bomb NYC police headquarters. In 71 it was the Capital Building and in 72 it was the Pentagon. In 2001 he said he didn't regret it and they didn't do enough.
Rev. Wright, Obama's pastor. He hates all white people and he has no issues with spewing his hatred in the lords house. This is/was Obama's spiritual leader !!! Enough said about this moron.
I wonder how many other friends he has like this. How can he be a man of the people, black or white, when he FOLLOWS others with beliefs like these. If befriending Ayers and Wright isn't enough to convince you not to vote for him there's not much hope for you but here are few more.
He will spend more on nothing.
He will raise taxes to spend on nothing.
He will reduce our Military and put us at risk just like Clinton did.
The health care program he speaks of, where does that money come from? Taxes. I have insurance do I get to say no to this little plan or do pay just like everyone else that works.
His choice of VP doesn't support him.

Gee, fuzzmonkey, Obama was born in 1961, so he couldn't have had anything to do with what Ayers did in the 60s. As far as sitting on a board with him, who gets to choose members of a board? How many points did you get for making that comment? I've seen McCain's website prompting his supporters to make comments (for brownie points) wherever they can find an outlet.
On the other hand, Bush rounded up bin Laden's family and had them jetted out of the country after 911, and then turned around and started invading our privacy. Many Americans are struggling to make ends meet and are tired of the lies and deceit. Now, if yall like being spied on and struggling to survive, go ahead and vote for McCain and his ice princess...no one will stop you. But, as far as I'm concerned, the Republican warmongers in office only have 4 more months.

Peace , Please read my post again I didn't say Obama had anything to do with Ayers actions in the 60's. I was making a point, Obama has some very questionable friends. This man wants to be President of the greatest country in the world yet he's friends with a man that bombed the Capital Building. The building the President addresses the nation and congress in. He's had ties to Ayers family for over 20 years. He had his kick off party at Ayers home when he ran for the US Senate. Remember this isn't family I'm talking about. These are friends and you pick your friends. You also pick your church and he picked Wright's.
Do you think the stuggling Americans you refer to will be better off with Obama's Socialist ideas? Anyone who wraps themselves around the idea that the government should bail them out or give them hand outs are crazy. Like I said before I don't owe anyone a thing and on the other hand no one owes me. I shouldn't have to pay one extra penny in taxes to fund more welfare programs. If you're struggling swallow your pride and get another job. Work your days off. Nothing in life worth having is free, everything comes at price.
Posted by Peace007 (anonymous) on August 27, 2008 at 12:16 a.m.
Who would want friends that were forced to play with them kpage? Real friends are the ones who stick by you even when something happens that everyone else finds questionable.
fuzzmonkey, the reason you will have to pay more taxes is because of the irresponsible spending and poor mis-management by the Bush administration.
It's possible that Obama wasn't aware of Ayers past at that time. Why isn't Ayers still in jail if he did all that? You can't blame Obama if the system failed to prosecute Ayers in the 60s.
I certainly don't think the American people will be better off with the middle class becoming poorer and poorer while the rich keep on getting richer by taking their companies overseas and getting tax breaks for doing so. I don't think the American people are better off when one of the richest men in America pays less in taxes than his secretary.

Peace it sounds like you have father issues, sounds like you would have preferred Obama as your daddy. Think what ever you want to,vote Obama if that makes you happy, but if he wins and starts leading this country to destruction dont start crying because it will be too late.

Amen rattlesnake!
lol @ sentas last post that was very funny.

Peace, If you think Obama didn't know about the people he FOLLOWED the last two decades your nuts. I don't think there's one person in the Chicago area that doesn't know who Bill Ayers or what the SDS was and Obama certainly did as well.
Posted by sayitloud (anonymous) on August 27, 2008 at 8:27 a.m.
NO DOUBT! If he wants to play "stupid" on the matter then that alone is just another reason I don't want him running this country! TOO DUMB!

Great site meluvcookies. Now how many people can call this man a racist?

I love simple minded folk. sentas vote for the communist clown if you like. You and so many like you have no idea who Obama is. Right now I'm not sure anyone truly knows how big a radical he is. He's a tell you what you want to hear used car salesman and in the end he'll stick to everyone, blacks included. He stands for nothing otherwise he wouldn't have the wonderful friends he does.
By the way when you try to enslave the white race I think you're going to meet a small amount of resistance.

Let's not forget that Obama supported his phycotic cousin Raila Odinga. Odinga supporters are the people that are burning christians alive, trapped inside churches. In 2006 Obama took a trip to Kenya and voiced his support for his fellow tribesman and political ally, Odinga.
Odinga has now made a deal for support with Muslim fundamentalists. A photograph copy of a Memorandum of Understanding, dated and signed on August 29, 2007, between Raila Odinga and Shiekh Abdullah Abdi, chairman of the National Muslim Leaders Forum of Kenya.

sentas you need to get something straight. Bill Ayers has said that he wished he had done more. How can you say he has changed? Is this the same kind of change Obama has promised?

Thanks, rattlesnake! Exactly the point I wanted to get across.

Fuzzmonkey, from what I've read about Obama being at Ayers house for a small gathering, said that Alice Palmer was stepping down from her senate position and had chosen Obama to be her successor. The Ayers house was chosen to hold a small gathering to INTRODUCE Obama. I don't think it would be too far off base to consider that Obama may not (as I said in my above comment) have known at that time what Ayers had done in his past. Do you normally run a background check prior to accepting an invitation to someone's home for a social gathering?
The real questions to be asked regarding Ayers is: Why wasn't he convicted of the crime? If guilty of terrorism, why is he teaching at a college? It sounds to me like the law enforcement of the US dropped the ball on this one, if Ayers is guilty of bombing buildings.

rattlesnake, I was trying to make a point using my daddy issues. Just because I was around certain types of people, or was even taught certain ways, I still have my own mind. I don't have to behave or believe like them, or you.
Posted by Peace007 (anonymous) on August 27, 2008 at 10:44 a.m.
sentas, ok then; but just let me say this before I go, if I'm crazy for thinking that Obama seems like a humble man, then yall will just have to excuse me for living...aiight.
How many times has Cindy McCain been to New Orleans or to one of the other disaster areas in the US? Maybe yall can ask her when she gets back from her humanitarian mission to Georgia. Oh, btw, if she can't have an honest relationship with her own sister, how can she be the first lady of this country and care about all of the people?
Posted by happybunny (anonymous) on August 27, 2008 at 10:52 a.m.
OK Sentas, where is Obama taking us, well lets see shall we...he wants to reduce our military spending and make us vulnerable NOW when Iran, Russia, and China are such threats. Lets get rid of our nuclear weapons NOW when Iran and China are developing and testing them. You have to ask yourself why is he so willing to take us from a strong sovereign nation to a weak helpless sitting duck? Perhaps he has other priorities, protecting America should be priority one.
It is absolutely important who he chooses to socialize with, who he chooses to support politically, who he chooses to worship under. All of that speaks volumes about his character or lack thereof.
Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on August 27, 2008 at 11:17 a.m.
I wonder Bunny if you can relate to the fact that if someone misuses military force they can call up terrorist reprisal? Even to the point they cause the creation of terrorist organizations in an effort to share a reprisal.
From what I hear of what you say you think strength is a matter of having guns and using them. Some people think strength is having the vision to offer more options.
We are the worlds strongest nuclear-armed power, and we know we cannot use our weapons against a major power without destroying life on Earth. We cannot use our nuclear weapons on a few criminal terrorists without killing far more civilians.
Israel, our bad stepchild who has caused much ill will in the MidEast is also armed with nuclear weapons, and they are more prone to use them because their leaders have so much as stated that if they are detroyed they will fight with no mercy or concern for the rest of the world.
Iran, Russia and China do not threaten us like we do them. We actually have used illegal aggression against Iran for more than half a century, we are attempting to by treaty impose ourselves closer and closer to military presence in the former Soviet Union, and China does not have a military presence the world over as a part of their ambitions like we do.
Therefore we need nuclear weapons to keep pushing on other people's borders, not to defend them from pushing on ours.
For all the GOP talk about free enterprise, why do we need a military to dominate the world if we could do it economically like China is doing it? Because some people think it is ok to use force if bested in economic performance.
Can you understand and acknowledge those thoughts at all?
Posted by happybunny (anonymous) on August 27, 2008 at 11:28 a.m.
It's a miracle, I agree with Sentas.
It's about how each candidate views the issues facing our country and their solution. Our economy is on the brink of disaster, foreign relations are touchy, we are in the midst of an energy crisis, so by all means, let's elect someone who even his own running mate claims to be lacking the experience necessary to run this country.
I do not want to live in a socialistic or communistic society. I work and I support myself as well as many many welfare cases through the payment of my taxes.
Let's talk about minimum wage, wow that increase helped millions of people...RIGHT OUT OF A JOB! Now they talk about giving the employer a tax break for hiring minimum wage people to fix what they've already broken.
According to the Tax Foundation, the top 1% of wage-earners in this country pays nearly 40% of the burden (an 11% INCREASE over 1999, when WHO was President? Oh that's right...Bill Clinton). Not fair? Well, you may be saying, 'that's because they have ALL the wealth!' Wrong again. The top 1% of earners account for just 21% of the total adjusted gross income. Hmm. Come to think of it...you're RIGHT! That really isn't fair. They're paying DOUBLE what they should be. By the way, the top 10% of earners pay 70% of the load. When you get all the way down to the top 50% of earners, they account for 96.4% of the entire tax burden. The next 10% pays 3.6%. And the bottom 40% of wage earners...pay NOTHING. That's right, nothing. In fact, they pay nothing, and then often get a "refund" (handout) at years end.

Let's not forget his quote from the front page of the Wall Street Journal a few months ago: "Globalization and technology and automation all weaken the position of workers," he said, and a strong government hand is needed to assure that wealth is distributed more equitably. Equitable distribution of wealth talk should frighten to the core all American citizens who love life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The one big bill to Barack Obama's credit right now is another of his proposals to redistribute wealth. It's called the World Poverty Act. If passed into law, it would take $845 billion from U.S. taxpayers, and redistribute that money to other nations through the UN. Sound good? If so, we'll see you in the cheese lines Comrade!
If Obama is elected, and follows through with taking oil profits, do you think it will STOP with oil profits? Their profit margin is only 7-11%. Why take a chunk of Microsofts much larger profit margin? Or the cell phone industry or hoteliers? The markup on diamonds is up to 1000%...isn't that obscene? As for whether or not states and/or "working families" have the right to the profits oil companies have made, I guess that depends on whether you adhere to the U.S. Constitution or the Communist Manifesto.
Obama is a converted Christian, whose father was Muslim. There is no evidence at all of his having been raised at some radical Madrassa in Indonesia during his childhood. That was a rumor thought to have originated from the Hillary Clinton campaign. A far better and TRUE argument is that he spent 19 years in the radicalized "Black Liberation Theology" Trinity United Church, with Pastor Jeremiah Wright. With "BLT's" origins in Marxism and hatred for whites, this should be a concern to ANY thinking American. It is also accurate to say that Barack Obama has some VERY radical associates. Anti-American Reverend Jeremiah Wright for one. Weather Underground terrorist, William Ayers, who bombed the Pentagon in the early '70's for another. The mentor to whom he refers in his first book, "Dreams From My Father", Frank Marshall Davis, was a Black poet and avowed member of the Communist Party USA. He mentions in that same book that in college, he preferred the company of Marxist professors, among other radicals. So, a Muslim? No. An extremist and a Marxist? Yes.
This is just a small sampling of reasons to say NO WAY, NO HOW, NO OBAMA!

Here's an Obama/Ayers campaign ad.......nice......and in true Democrat form, they are pitching a fit and trying to squelch free speech. Needless to say, this ad won't be playing much longer because of threats from the Obama campaign. Anyone who votes for Obama is only voting on STYLE points, let's face it, he's a good speaker. It ends there. McCain fought for our country, was a POW for FIVE years, that's FIVE years, can you imagine and now he has served his country as an elected official for years. Obama speaks well, that's about it on his resume.

I do find that the Tax Foundations methods are questionable to a great many sources. Including the two leading sources of tax information for Congress — the Congressional Budget Office and the Joint Committee on Taxation. Bunny you might vet your nut jobs before you quote them.
At least on the Democrat talk forum, what you will find is Obama supporters tend to be better educated and better writers. Obama detractors more often quote lame prejudiced politically slanted sources. They also tend to think in ways that reinforce the conclusions they already made.
John McCain is experienced at giving you more of the same kind of government you already have. Except he will have even less control over his party than Bush. His party hates him.

Just one more little spam before I take off...tsk, tsk, tsk, I've forgotten many things, but I've never forgotten my sisters. Seems that Cindy has not only forgotten one sister, but there's two forgotten sisters. Must be hard to face siblings when you know that you've screwed them out of their inheritance, which could also be the reason for Cindy's drug abuse. She's as cold as ice and willing to sacrifice their love.
Portalski told our colleague Kimberly Kindy that she stood quietly by for decades while her father lavished attention on his second family. But the past few months - with Cindy McCain's glowing childhood memories and repeated references to being her father's only child - finally became too much. "I was his family, too," she said from her home in Phoenix. "I saw him at Christmas and I spent my birthdays with him."
But there's more: Cindy McCain has another half-sister. Before her marriage to Hensley, Johnson had a daughter, Dixie Burd, by a previous relationship. Burd, who is much older than Cindy, could not be reached for comment.

Peace007 that is an interesting article about Cindy McCain's family past, the source of her money, the plight of the rest of the family, etc. I don't think we ought to assume this is the whole story, though and we should be compassionate.
If I had multiple millions I must confess I would give a nice chunk to a half brother who dad had left out. Maybe Cindy's money is just in CD's and tied up, so she didn't want to lose any interest, He,he!
The only way this matters is to show the character of the wife of a candidate, and the results of John McCain's interactions with her on this long-term incident. It would certainly be part McCain's pervue, since his son is CFO for her corporation, it's not like they distance themselves from each others family situation.
If Obama's wife is held liable for her pastor's sins and her misstatement of pride, then a lifetime of choices to make this situation with McCain's wife should certainly be important fodder for those inclined to judge the candidates. Perhaps this does explain the history of drug abuse by Cindy.
But aside from indirect hints this does not affect the facts we need to know for our election choices. McCain has historically been hated by the GOP for not playing the party game with Bush/Cheney. His flip-flop now to endorse Bush's policies is a very bad sign, much more extreme than Obama's.
McCain's inability to control his party is still the big issue -- they will help him get elected then screw us all like they have been doing for the last 8 years. He needs them so he will let them. Just like Jindal was ready to give the legislators the pay increase until threatened with recall.

"Hill" gave an excellent speech last night. She spoke from her guts. I know there were several in attendance that regretted voting for O-man. Hillary should be on the Democratic ticket. We should all write her in when we vote. After all, she's not black and she's a woman. All jokes aside, "HILL" got everyone's attention. HILARY FOR PRESIDENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barack Obama knows that America can not be strong abroad unless we are first strong at home. People the world over have always been more impressed by the power of our example, than by the example of our power. (Bill Clinton)
