In an ideal world Rentech Inc. would go on to become a successful enterprise and be a great asset to all of Natchez and the local community. Only time will tell whether their gamble will pay off. I will cross my fingers, but not hold my breath.

NO. It Smells like a SCAM
Posted by Mucasplug (anonymous) on March 29, 2008 at 7:56 a.m.
Our County Goverment should have known it was a scam when they got the letter form Rentech saying "You may have already be the winner or our factory location sweepstakes".....

Have we gone from "build it and they will come" to "want it and it will come"? Just because I want something, or feel I really need something, doesn't mean I will get it. Rentech was once a "Sure thing" to me, now it's a "maybe".

SURE .....I think Santa Claus will bring it here

Mississippi, in general, and specifically Natchez, is a great places to invest, as proven by the automobile industry's recent major investments in the state, but the realities of business will over ride all the wishing, hoping and perceived 'need' by the local people. Rentech will become a reality when 3 things come together,...(1) their pilot plant proves the technology to be economically viable (process yield vs capital cost), (2) the fuel market demands the product and is willing to pay the right price over the life of the project, and (3) large investors believe in the risk/reward of the project and are willing to fund the capital to construct and start up the facility. The best the city of Natchez can do is stay in close contact with Rentech, keep an open door and open mind to their needs and provide better tax incentives than their alternatives.

I like the way it was put by MS ROOTS. I agree whole-heartedly.
Posted by timnoklahoma (anonymous) on March 30, 2008 at 7:43 p.m.
Just why would anyone think that this company can only build in Natchez? Don't you realize that this place could build ANYWHERE and still be in business. There is nothing written anywhere that says Natchez, Mississippi is the ONLY place that they can locate and make money!!
I bet there are hundreds of places just as good as Natchez for them to locate. Your people need to keep trying to win them over to get them to come----not just ASSume that they are coming to Natchez.
I heard from some people down there that y'all were missing me, so I will try to post more here so we can all stay in touch.
See you soon!!!

Very well said MSroots!!!
Posted by redusmfan (anonymous) on March 30, 2008 at 9:38 p.m.
They could have built in the jackson area....but I hope they still will go to Natchez. It would be nice to see more people down there working.

Tim, glad to have you back! And yes, MSroots is absolutely right. All we can do is keep trying to intice industries and not just wait for it to happen.

Hello there, SUPERTRUCKER,
I have missed you and your views here. I still see your warped views when I look into this area sometimes. For the life of me, I can't understand what you are calling STUPID in here-----UNLESS YOU ARE REFERRING TO YOURSELF.
Have a nice day, everybody.

Hey timnoklahoma!!! Long time, no hear. Glad to see you're poking your head in from time to time. Don't be a stranger! Come back and peck around with the rest of us!

"When a religion is good, I conceive it will support itself; and when it does not support itself, and God does not take care to support it so that its professors are obliged to call upon the help of the civil power, 'tis a sign, I apprehend, of its being a bad one."
--Benjamin Franklin
(Seems ole Ben was often right about a lot of things -- and it also seems that in this regard "religion" and "business" may not be so far apart). Laissez faire!

Don't believe at all. I don't believe they are coming to Natchez. I'll believe it when I see it.

Why is everybody so up in arms over Rentech??? Is it because it's taking time, heck these things take time. And for those who think it's a scam, a scam for what??? The only money Adams County is out is for attorneys fees and travel. Geez, this is what it takes to lure business, any business, to any town. Do you think we should just site idle, not market, not fly around and beat the bushes, just lay on our fat arses and do absolutely nothing. It takes money to make money. You don't just sit in your office and twiddle your thumbs hoping something will just fall in your lap. You go out and make it happen. Sometimes, the majority of times, these things cost money. It's called recruitment and marketing. Again, we need Rentech, they do not need us. How much clearer can that be?
Posted by texasranger (anonymous) on April 8, 2008 at 12:30 p.m.
Rentech is a laugh,a joke,a HUGE mess,a everybody gets a piece of the pie, lawyers and whoever can grab a nickel, but nothing happens as usual and Rentech is used to suck money out of the taxpayers and the scam will be gone till the next one comes along, read about Rentech on the internet, it,s not doing very well at all. Why would they try to start a industry, when they are having so many problems with the ones they already have,duh...Do the math or just beleive what the soothsayers tell you, while their laughing.

Sing a song of sixpence, a pocket full of rye
Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened, the birds began to sing,
Wasn't that a dainty dish to set before the king?
Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full.
One for my master, one for my dame
And one for the pretty girl who lives down the lane.
There once was an editor named Kevin
Who was bound to get into heaven.
He wrote many a good story
Giving God all his glory
And has been since he was seven.
There once was a writer named Julie
Who loved to see a good movie.
She watched Harry Potter
And thought, "What fodder!"
"Gimme George Clooney, for surely!"
There once was a writer named Adam
Talents for writing, he had 'em.
He'd scribble and scrabble
Weeding out all the rabble.
Till his story was worthy to give 'em.

There once was a dude named Ben.
Who was superior with a camera and pen.
He snapped and he wrote,
Till his fingers would bloat
Then sleep on the couch in his den.
