Do you think the city and county should work together on recreation?

"Yeah, it's a benefit for the community economically as well as from an entertainment and fitness stand point."

— Chris Maxwell, B&K Bank, Natchez

Photo of Jerry Dixon

"Of course. Recreation's for all citizens and I think citizens from the county would come in in and use it. I don't think the city could do it by itself."

— Jerry Dixon, Artist, Natchez

"I think they should. I wish they could combine services of city and county government in more than just recreation. It's a bigger issue than just getting a softball field. It seems a waste with the duplication of services."

— Mark Coffey, Photographer, Natchez

Photo of Andy Burns

"I feel like the county should contribute because you've got other people who use city facilities. When they provide something out there it's not for the city, but when the city provides something it's for the city and the county. Public schools are run like that. Why isn't recreation?"

ABSOLUTELY cooperate on recreational facilities.

Bigger and more unique is better than what either city or country can afford by themselves.

Build recreational facilities that are unique enough to draw from a wide area -- it will take money to do that -- and talent to get the money.

HEY EVERYBODY, BUTCH BROWN HAS BEEN REINCARNATED AS YEAHUHUH, uh...what did you say honey?...What? Butch isn't dead yet?...uh, sorry, it's just plain ole Yeahuhuh doing the liberal lipsync...LOL.

Seriously, I think that they could and should work together to solve some problems in some rational and economical ways without raising taxes...maybe recreation is one of them, but it had better be a good plan...so far there ain't one.

Posted by sammohon (anonymous) on September 17, 2008 at 11:23 p.m.

Before anyone goes ballistic...no, I really don't wish Butch was dead...it was a joke!...get over it.

Posted by kpage1 (anonymous) on September 18, 2008 at 6:21 a.m.

HEY NATCHEZ/ADAMS COUNTY OFFICIALS...do as Concordia Parish is doing...make up your minds, get the land, start the process. Uh, why is that so hard?

I'll let you in on a little secret, you smart, savvy, ELECTED Natchez officials...just put the kids first and everything will fall into place. When priorities are in order, chaos turn to calm.

Posted by redusmfan (anonymous) on September 18, 2008 at 6:26 a.m.

Hello democrat,

where did yall go out looking for people? Where are the naysayers in your " on the street " survey?

I guess they found all the people that agreed with their opinion and put them on here.

personally, I wish there was something to do with the kids when I come down to visit, but, going to the McDonalds playland is even out of the question now!!!

Posted by kpage1 (anonymous) on September 18, 2008 at 6:49 a.m.

Good point, red. I read a story today in the Demo about a drive-by shooting at McD's. in Ntz. There goes the playland idea...Duncan Park is off-limits, too, if you don't want a thug harassing your kid. The mall...well, that's a hoot, everyone knows that's "Thug City". Well, there's the private sector that can build a kid's place, but "sue-happy" parents would quickly get that kind of thing closed down.

I'll repeat what I said in another post...When your priorities are in place (putting kids first), then everything else will work out. No one can expect to be blessed when greedy pockets scream louder than empty ballgloves, soccer fields,...and industrial ports.

Posted by redusmfan (anonymous) on September 18, 2008 at 7:15 a.m.

Preach On!!!! But the first thing to do is convince young people to keep out of the backkseat, so to speak. Or to use real birth control so we do not have children being born to 13 or 14 year olds with NO FATHER IN THE HOUSE.

The old African saying is that it takes a village to raise a child, so that woud include the dad being in the village. This also pivots on the fact that the VILLAGE IS NOT A WAR ZONE!!!!

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on September 18, 2008 at 8:53 a.m.

Reincarnated? How do you know I am NOT Butch Brown. He,he!

You should work a little harder, Sam, if you're so terrified of taxes.

The rest of us would like to spend a little on some smart projects -- seems like if you're not a barfly there isn't a whole lot of recreational infrastructure in this town.

Maybe you could call Ms Palin and get her to get us some earmarks for our town, too! We could use another 27 or so million federal dollars and our town is 3 times the size of hers.

Posted by happybunny (anonymous) on September 18, 2008 at 10:11 a.m.

I would prefer the funds go into economic development. Without jobs, the same poverty stricken thugs will be destroying the shiny new recreational facilities. You can't get around it.

Posted by southernbelle (anonymous) on September 18, 2008 at 10:23 a.m.

We need to work together so we can play together . Really ya'll ,this shouldn't even be controversial . Recreational development will work with economical developement . yeahuhuh, maybe you should be the one to call Gov. Palin . You seem to have an obsession with her . But you are right she does a good job .

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on September 18, 2008 at 11:47 a.m.

Yes that's why I told Sam. I don't think she will talk to me, he,he!.

Maybe there is someone around here that can get earmarks for projects for our town, too. In fact I heard Sarah got a rec complex for her town and figured someone who knew her well enough to support her for the presidency would know about how she did it.

If Sarah got 27 million for her tiny town I would be curious to know how much federal earmark money goes to Natchez. And if Wasilla at 7,000 pop has a recreational complex like Sarah pushed through we certainly should have one, too with 3 times the population. Indoor hockey and the likes -- yeah, that's what I'm talking about!!!

All I can find on how she pulled it off is here at the Anchorage Daily News and the other link at the Wall Street Journal.

http://dwb.adn.com/news/alaska/matsu/sto...

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB12206553...

It was built on someone else's land and then the city sued them for ownership and it looks like they will get a good deal on the court settlement. Maybe we could do that here?

oldhippie01...maybe some folks, like McCain admitted, and apparently you, should just leave it up to someone who knows what their doin' with the computer...relax, I'm just teasing a bit...LOL.

YES!!!!!!. Reading some of these comments is like going into some of the park areas around NTZ/AC. These blogs have become nothing but a play ground for wanna-be comedian thugs and very negative minded people. I will not add a tee-hee b/c I am dead serious. It would be best to take your no-where comedic and negative attitude to the backyard and bury it. Do not waste this space for your rebutal, because that's exact what it is a fruitless waste of space.

Sounds like the comments are coming from people who are wanna be's like Owhampy and Biden! Owhampy does not know where he came from and Biden is an old hippie! They both came from the TRASH Can! No more taxes!

Posted by destiny (anonymous) on September 20, 2008 at 7:22 a.m.

Thanks rushinghjr, it's time to stand up against these blogger 'thugs'. We've lost a lot of good, decent bloggers that had some good ideas to this trash that is trying to take over all the blog spaces with their never ending 'cut and paste' or links to read the trash they read and believe. These wanna-be whatever's need to go to evil obama's site and praise him and his evil wife there. They are all the same caliber of human trash. Keep up the good work.

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on September 20, 2008 at 9:52 a.m.

Awww Destiny. Did somebody hurt your wittle feewings?

Just because we will call a spade a spade -- and when we do it is not a racial reference -- does not make us the trash.

This is just about ideas. You figger out who came from the TRASH CANS and we will run your world for you.

Posted by linenbreeze (anonymous) on September 21, 2008 at 3:16 p.m.

The city and county should all go sit on the bluff and watch Vidalia grow by leaps and bounds.

(destiny) You shouldn't let a few bad apples bother you. We have gained so many more bad bloggers because of teenagers that are defending one another on their violence.

Posted by destiny (anonymous) on September 21, 2008 at 4:37 p.m.

Thanks linen. They don't bother me at all. As Mama would say take it with a grain of salt and consider the source. Thugs are thugs even on the blog space.

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on September 21, 2008 at 4:59 p.m.

Now Destiny, excuse me for noticing, but until you came in here whining there was no discord. Even Sam and I were humorous with one another, and nobody even took any shots at happybunny. Most of what was said was even on the subject one way or the other.

You and rushing are the ones calling people trash.

Does it make me a thug to mention that?

Shoot me down if you want but when the smoke clears, one of us will make more sense than the other I suspect.

Posted by overthehill60 (anonymous) on September 21, 2008 at 8:36 p.m.

Yeahuhuh
You noticed that too. She seems to always want people to feel sorry for her. But to me she is a back stabbing wolf in sheep's skin. From the stories she has told about herself she should never call anyone trash!!!! And that goes for her granddaughter too. I tried to make peace with her off the forum & she flat told me NO. So she only has interest in the forum not friends.

Posted by sammohon (anonymous) on September 21, 2008 at 9:25 p.m.

Yeahuhuh...Wow...that's the nicest thing you've ever said about me and, for that matter, anyone else that contradicted your positions...now, I'm really worried...LOL.

In all fairness, I must point out that while I don't condone destiny or redusmfan or anyone else using trash talk (it is universally counter-productive)...you, oldhippie and now overthehill60 are guilty too...I've done it myself in exasperation on occasion.

The point is that we've got to find a way to RESPECTFULLY agree to disagree the things we do and try to find common ground for the things we aren't so stridently separated on...it is the only path for progress...divisiveness and name calling rarely work for the good of all.

Posted by overthehill60 (anonymous) on September 21, 2008 at 10:56 p.m.

Thanks to (sammohon) oldhippie and I have finally been accepted to the "universally counter productive" trash talkers comittee hall of fame!!!!!! I knew getting old would be worth it! I guess that means I can go to bed now, I have accomplished something for today!

Posted by happybunny (anonymous) on September 22, 2008 at 11:10 a.m.

You will need to include huhuh in your hall of fame honor.

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on September 22, 2008 at 11:43 a.m.

SAM....WHAT???? ##@@!$$%!! You think you're going to have to cooperate for peace and conservatism to survive??? OMGIHHBTN!!!! (Figure those letters out. He,he!)

I think that in order for us to come up with a plan for mutual respect one half of the population is going to have to quit paraphrasing the other half of the population into paper tigers designed to be offensive.

That means if somebody is just a queer nobody calls them a latte-drinking, God-hating abortion-loving socialist, communist bisexual, Muslim loving, NRA hating queer. There's a difference. And even my choice of metaphor here can irritate the pi** out of some, so just try to see my point.

That can be hard, as both sides hopefully know that when the other's supporters vote it is a complex equasion where the pro's and cons balance imperfectly yet our souls still show by the totality of what we allow to be the government's privilege and what we wish to fall to mere men.

The number of words necessary to accurately address that will automatically inflame some people -- I postulate even that inflammation is an unnecessary strategic communication tactic designed for invalidator warfare.

If we can't accept that as a legitimate observation we must resort to bloodletting to prevail, and thereby starts the grandstanding in social exercise to our supporters -- and the pontification.

That is not the liberal way -- we actually like details, though ours tend to be more esoteric than those of the Ebenezer Scrooge crowd who demand they be kicked in the groin before they recognize. Let's face it, Ebeneezer has been with us far longer than liberals and he feels an entitlement to claim what he wants.

But I can try, and this is all about ideas for me. I would prefer to remain as anonymous as I can at the same time as my writing becomes a record of my veracity.

In other words, Sam. There's nothing wrong with you that some diligence, some caring and a few lifetimes could not cure. he,he! Being mired in an intrinsic self is for wooses, and I would hope not to be one of those.

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on September 22, 2008 at 11:53 a.m.

I was actually lighthearted but sincere with above post, and I don't really think it will take you 3 lifetimes -- but I have been wrong before, He,he!

Posted by sammohon (anonymous) on September 22, 2008 at 9:48 p.m.

Happybunny...I offered an olive branch and was thoroughly rebuffed...seems the libs just don't want public discourse with mutual respect...which was the reason I proposed it...it was bait to demonstrate the shrill anti-democratic voice they seem to unanimously possess...they fell right into the snare...silly Dems.

You see, they want to crush, annihilate, punish and totally erase any opposition to their socialist agenda. I just let them prove it themselves.

It's kinda like gravity, it sucks mostly, but it can be your friend if you're trying to tear down a top-heavy derelict like the Democratic Party...what have you to say for yourself now Yeahuhuh?...you got snookered...he, he, HEE!

Posted by sammohon (anonymous) on September 22, 2008 at 9:50 p.m.

Oh...I was actually lighthearted, but sincere with the above post, and I really think you got snookered...he, he, HEE!

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on September 23, 2008 at 9:52 a.m.

Oh Sam that's not a rebuff. That was humor, honestly.

Re-read that piece I wrote. Just because I used some tongue-in-cheek references to us being queers and you guys being the political party of Ebeneezer Scrooge -- geez man life with you must be terrible -- no sense of humor!!!!

Conservatism is fine in this country. We are a conservative country. It's still illegal for a human being to appear in public in his natural state, Mississippi is hell to get an abortion in, and most stores close on Sunday. You can still pile up an incredible array of toys, and God's name is on the money. People pay less than half their money on taxes, and we are fighting two wars -- three if you include the Drug War. And we have a record number of citizens in our jails! What do you really have to complain about? Isn't that what you wanted????

Just because your guys blew the national trust during the Bush years and we are not inclined to give it back to you right now does not make us annihilators. Don't struggle and it won't hurt much. Like the girl in McCain's gorilla joke, he,he!

After we balance the budget from your excesses you can accuse of being the big taxers -- again -- your guys will get elected -- again -- and all will be right in the Land. Then you can run up some more bills for us to pay back, again. It's the cycle we live in.

Now don't get mad, those are light-hearted comments and true as the sunrise!

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on September 23, 2008 at 11:03 a.m.

I want to apologize for straying from the subject here.

Does ANYONE NOT think the city and county should cooperate, and why should they not?

Posted by presby (anonymous) on September 23, 2008 at 1:56 p.m.

The outcome is always the same with all of these so called helpful improvements, but the bottom line in this town is always the same too. Do we have the money to do this? Who is going to benefit the most? Ali Baba and his Forty theives,as always.

Posted by presby (anonymous) on September 23, 2008 at 1:58 p.m.

The kids who are good ones will provide their own clean fun,the ones who aren,t will still be what they are and cause trouble.

Posted by presby (anonymous) on September 23, 2008 at 1:59 p.m.

my sister always used to say that. I,m just kidding, she never was.

Posted by presby (anonymous) on September 23, 2008 at 2:01 p.m.

If we didn,t look into things and have negative thoughts we would be taken down the road over and over, beleive anything anyone says.

Posted by Resigned (anonymous) on September 23, 2008 at 3:06 p.m.

Typical. When caught in nonsense, it's "I was just joking. You have no sense of humor." Ridiculous!

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on September 23, 2008 at 3:26 p.m.

huh?

Posted by happybunny (anonymous) on September 23, 2008 at 4:08 p.m.

Amen Resigned...typical huhuh!

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on September 23, 2008 at 5:01 p.m.

Your wittle tail still stings from being spanked on your fibs about capital gains.

That writing up there is only nonsense if you don't understand it. I can only take so much responsibility for that. I was just trying to be lighthearted with Sam and you guys are complicating that.

Posted by sammohon (anonymous) on September 23, 2008 at 10:13 p.m.

Yeahuhuh...you got snookered, get over it...he, he, HEE!

Posted by NtzMom55 (anonymous) on September 24, 2008 at 3:16 a.m.

Consolidate city and county. That would solve lots of problems.

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on September 24, 2008 at 9:32 a.m.

I know you think you are entitled to that claim of snooker, Sam.

My point with you often seems to be you are a special kind of welfare entitlement junkie. You do not qualify your claims of greatness and just claim them through pontification and what, Samness? When I originally called you out a month or so ago I described your invalidations as you sounding like a drunk. In your case drunk on power or domination in conflict in faux behalf of an ideological movement that you need far more than it needs you. But it still sounds like the logic of a drunk.

Didn't you just do that again with an unqualified claim to victory and a dismissal of my much more detailed and better-humored offering?

I will vacate this thread for the sake of those interested in staying on the subject. Any further comments will be in another thread.

Oh God now I have to stick with that no matter what bile you offer, huh? Go ahead, I backed up to your stump, he,he!

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on September 24, 2008 at 12:57 p.m.

Okay N.D., these four men mentioned above have more than one thing in common. Being a little biass huh? How about asking all ethnicities and races? Four mature, greyish toned haired, medium-income salary earning, males seems rather biass to me. Oh well, at least they all have different color shirts.

Posted by presby (anonymous) on September 26, 2008 at 10:21 p.m.

If you mixed the 2 togather you wouldn,t have a good bowl of beans,so why bother?
