Cookies, in the foreground, form the symbol of the rosary. The altar filled with baked goods and other foods celebrates St. Joseph, who helped deliver Sicilians in the Middle Ages from famine. The tradition of hosting a feast in honor of St. Joseph still continues in churches across the world.
