Kendrick Bates, who was born in Natchez, recently signed a football scholarship with the University of Wisconsin-Plattville, where he will play defensive back and running back. Kendrick is first person from Mississippi to sign at that college. He will also play basketball there. He had a 3.38 grade point average at Southwest College in McComb. Morgan Myers participated in the National Barrel Horse Association competition in Jackson. She placed sixth in 3D winning $300 and took the top place in the first NBHA Idol competition winning another $300 and a feature story in Barrel Horse News. The Miss-Lou Crappie Club had its fourth tournament of the year at Lake Louie on Saturday under bad weather conditions with rain, lightening and thunder. Seven club members boated and fished for first place in the club standings. A total of 77 pounds of crappie were caught. The top five finishers from left to right were, Cedric Moore, Eddie Jones, Ponce Crossgo, Bo Mitchell and Issacc Mitchell. Other anglers not pictured were Jerry Johnson and Robert Sylvester. Franklin County High School graduate Dane Hodges recently signed a soccer scholarship to attend Southwest Mississippi Community College. Pictured from left are his mother Kathy Hodges, Dane, his father Randall Hodges and standing SWCC soccer coach David Strother. Strother is a former Franklin County soccer standout. “He’s going to be looked at in the forward position for us, and quite possibly a little midfield too,” Strother said. “We feel good about him.” Hodges is the fourth Franklin County senior to sign a soccer scholarship. Josh Dixon, Ryan Ratcliff and Austin McCormick inked deals with Co-Lin during the winter. “I think it’s great for him and our program,” said Franklin County boys’ soccer coach Brad Mullins. “He can play several positions. He really shines at midfield.” The Bulldogs went 17-6, reaching the second round of the state playoffs. They were Region 7-3A runner’s up. Trinity Episcopal School 8th grader Bethany Ogden has been playing with Capital City Lady Lions, an AAU traveling basketball team based out of Baton Rouge. The team has qualified for and will compete in a National Prime Time Sports Basketball Tournament to be held in Dallas, TX from July 25th to the 29th. Ogden, fourth from left standing, is shown with her teammates after winning both the BREC and YMCA City League Championships in Baton Rouge earlier this year. Their overall record is 44—9.
