Yes let's go ahead and "get socialist" and let the nutrition experts decide what is best for kids to eat. If mama don't like that she can send some Twinkies.
You know it wouldn't be so bad cooperating with government if the urges we seek to satisfy weren't so bad for us.

Mississippi has the highest rate of obesity in the nation and fried foods are a part of the problem. Obesity leads to health problems and we tax payers pick up the tab for the uninsured.
Most schools took soft drinks with sugar in them out of the vending machines years ago. Did the NASD do that? I sure hope so.

Kids are going to eat fried foods at home anyway. I don't think that serving fried foods is a problem as long as a healthier alternative is provided or parents are provided with a daily menu so that if they do not allow their children to eat fried food they can pack them a lunch on those certain days. I remember fried chicken day was the best day to eat in school!! And most of the time they ran out of chicken.. ha ha go figure!! Honestly, as long as fried foods aren't served everyday, I see nothing wrong with it. :)

Oh my goodness, I wish that the schools served fried foods. I'm a recent graduate from VHS and I cannot tell you the last time we had fried chicken in school! A club I was in my junior year took a trip to VLE and they got fried chicken! I'm not sure how they got lucky enough to score fried chicken, but I wish they could've shared some with their High School neighbors!! :/
I vote YES, not only b/c this is the SOUTH and it's part of our history (LOL!), but because it's GOOD. Like Elizabeth said, they're going to get it outside of school anyway, so serving unappetizing foods is only gonna make the kids WANT to SKIP lunch at school... which isn't very healthy either. It's been proven that skipping meals (ESPECIALLY BREAKFAST AND LUNCH) reduces performance in class! So which would you rather sacrifice? Give it some thought, please.
