Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy Frank Smith works the crime scene near the blanket-covered victim of Monday night’s fatal shooting.

Shooting leaves man dead

Published Tuesday, October 23, 2007

NATCHEZ — Witnesses on the scene of a shooting Monday night said they heard between 10 and 12 gunshots that left one man dead.

Sheriff Ronny Brown would not release details or confirm the number of shots, but did say his deputies responded to a fatal shooting at Village Square Apartments after 7:30 p.m.

Though Brown would not release the name of the victim, sources said it was Ronald Jones, also known as Bo Diddley. Jones reportedly did not live at the apartment complex, but was visiting and was shot near his car.

Rumors circulating among the large crowd gathered at the scene Monday night said the victim was killed in a retaliatory shooting connected to an August shooting incident that left one dead.

Brown said he had heard the rumor, but did not know if there was any truth to it.

Later Monday night, deputies responded to a drive-by shooting in the Broadmoor area. No one was injured, but a house on Jason Court was hit, Brown said.

“We heard that it might be related, but we don’t have anything to prove it,” Brown said. “All our investigators are out trying to run down different things.”

Brown said his deputies heard four descriptions of cars for the drive-by shooting, but none of them were the same.

No arrests had been made in either incident as of 10:45 p.m. Monday, but Brown said deputies had brought in some people for questioning.

“We are trying to piece together stuff,” Brown said.

Natchez Police Department investigators are also involved in the case, Brown said.

Brown did not know the exact times of either shooting.

Coroner James Lee said he was not involved in the case and could not comment.

Just because the dad lives out of town doesn't mean he can't be in there lives.....Don't say much for him leaving his kids in that situation..If you ask me...that's just my opion...As a parent we are suppose to PROTECT our kids at whatever risk i think anyway.

The 3rd child is the 22 month old right?

Posted by astrid (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 1:09 a.m. (Suggest removal)

You're kiddin me??? Over 100. That was fast work.

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 1:12 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Oh my i just looked at this picture.......Is that the body covered with a quilt?

I feel sorry for this persons mom and dad....There could be nothing worse i do not think than having to bury a child. May god be with his family.

Posted by astrid (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 1:12 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Yeah i did'nt know how old the smallest was but when i heard that she was pregnant again a couple of years ago, i knew it would not turn out good. They'll be better off in the Childrens Home for sure.
Nor sure why the dad never tried to do anything or if he even saw them.

Posted by astrid (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 1:13 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Oh yeah, that is sad. The pic.

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 1:15 a.m. (Suggest removal)

What a DAD huh??? I think the dad,and grandparents should be held accountable( to a extent) for this also..This is one reason why you should be involved in your kids lives NO MATTER WHAT!! (as long as you dont harm them of course)

Posted by BMW (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 1:16 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Alot of people know what's going on and they are trying to tell the police but they will not listen

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 1:16 a.m. (Suggest removal)

If the state gives her these kids back whenever she gets out of jail they should be held accountable for what happens to these children..

She has to be on probation and those are some pretty serious charges. And since they gave her no bond, that should mean that she aint comin' back.

This chick used to, and prob still did, ride around with a bottle of Charter in her trunk with her kids in the back seat. She would fill up a large go cup with nothing but ice and whiskey.

Posted by toosweet23 (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 1:52 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I have read these comments and they are irrevelant to the story. What are you guys talking about? A man was murdered here and you all are talking about something else. Someone knows what happened , they know that people came here from New orleans to get revenge on Bo Diddly. People are trying to tell the police what is going on but they won't listen.

Posted by ntzcop (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 1:52 a.m. (Suggest removal)

live by the sword, die by the sword. a known drug dealer. bound to happen sooner or later. at least he wont be selling the poison to the children any longer.

This is true ntzcop, he was a known drug dealer, so if you all know the drug dealers, why won't you do something about it. Get them all off the streets before they die. Is that why you won't listen to the people?

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 1:59 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Are you serious astrid.....GRRRRR

So true Astrid.....Sweet why would someone from new orleans come here for him? didn't pay? What? Why wouldn't the cops listen? They usually like for someone to tell them this sort of thing.

Ntzcop, this is why you are so disliked and so disrespected. That was an extremely ignorant, selfish remark you made in reference to the deceased victim. How can you wish death upon someone? Regardless of his occupation, he was a human being just like you and I. No one deserves to die in such a manner as this. Just like there are so many drug dealers out on the street, there are just as many child molesters and pedophiles out there. You just might be one of those dirty cops who arrest drug dealers, take their "work" and sale it yourself. As for astride and fire, you need to pick up the phone and call each other. The viewers of this website want to read comments related to this article and not some bull crap.

jammin1 and rocketman,,,,,,and all you other people that think the Concordia Underground is nothing but a bunch of gossip!!! You all are wrong!!!
I'm a member there at TCU and I know that 90% of what people post on there is the truth. Sure we have the occasional member that only registers just to start a bunch of false rumors,,,,,But the Moderators quickly nip that in the bud! It is NOT allowed to continue and is edited or deleted completely!

I have been sitting here reading all of these posts,,,,,,and from what I have read,,,,,you guys are just as guilty of gossiping as you accuse the members of TCU of doing!! How fair is that to condemn one site of gossiping,,,,,when thats what you all are doing here too?? Why not go over to The Concordia Underground,,,,register for an account and see for yourselves how false the gossip rumor is!!! Wouldn't that be the fair thing to do instead of sitting here and tunning TCU into the ground??

Give it a chance before you criticize it so harshly!!

Thanks for listening!! :)

Jammin 1: Guess I was right. I knew this because I have immediate family that live on Jackson St. the night of the murder David ran into their yard screaming they killed my boy. He was bleeding but he only thought of his friend/cousin. A comment was made that once his baby was born he was coming back.Don't know if he nor his family did it.They went back to New Orleans once the murder on Jackson St. happened. There was a witness to that murder but he's scared $**tless. He was scared that he would be killed and he was also there buying drugs at the time. Before the police arrived my family called me they were trying to calm D down.Again I don't know that he did or didn't do it;however, a person never forget when their family was murdered and nothing was done. There was bullets everywhere. The tape is still around the house.Regardless to what a person does he or she does not deserve to be murdered.Things are getting so bad around here til you don't want your kids to play outside.Enough is enough.

To Ntzcop your job is to serve and protect not to be put information about case on the website. You are giving out information before it come out in the paper. I wonder if your superviser know that you is a leaker to the community. I wouldn't trust you with my case because you put it out just like everybody else case. And as for the rest of you instead of you comment on this story you rather sit here talking about sumthing that happen in another state it's bad enough vidalia is staying over natchez democart .

I can say it in few words relative or not.
YOU LIVE BY THE GUN; YOU DIE BY THE GUN!!!!
I GUESS HE NEVER THOUGHT ALL OF HIS ACTIONS WOULD CATCH UP WITH HIM.

NOW ALL HE CAN DO IS REST IN PEACE!!!

I would like to welcome you all to Litte New Orleans. Why Is it that Natchez has turned into the crime capital of the south?? Hummnn I Know why, an influx of idiots that have no home training and think they are a bunch of gangsta's..Seems to me that Natchez needs to be cleaned up.

Posted by froggie (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 8:01 a.m. (Suggest removal)

What a shame. Do they know who did this yet? Like I said yesterday, the reason we keep hearing these stories is because no one gets held accountable for their actions anymore. I'd be willing to bet, the person that did this has a criminal history. Just proves my point.

Posted by kpage (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 8:11 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Another day, another killing. I do feel for Bo's family. Surely they knew what he was allegedly up to so I will have to assume they knew what Godschild77 said. Live by the gun, die by the gun. No, I'm not anti-gun, but if someone feels they have to carry a gun to protect their "slanging crack on the corner" job, then they must be prepared to die for it, too.

This proves to me that if you take the guns out of honest peoples hands for family protection or hunting, then only the criminals will have guns. No problem solved, just an entirely new problem on our hands. Complete chaos.

Posted by toosweet23 (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 8:33 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Ntz cop, you are exactly right, most of them have already been arrested, and let loose by these sorry judges, one in particular. I know a lot of them all around Natchez and they go to jail and tomorrow they are back on the streets. They get something like probation and that is that. So if the judge who they are going before just give them a slap on the wrist then we are going to continue to have this problem. Maybe when something happens in the judge family, maybe she will do more about it.

Posted by kpage (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 8:46 a.m. (Suggest removal)

That's something to chew on, toosweet. Shame on the judges for "catch and release". Sure the jails are full, but there must be some other way to house them. We were discussing on a post from last week about this. A few of us would like to see someone rent a huge pasture to the county and set up tent cities, as seen in larger towns. Everyone wears pink and has to work in the fields. Criminals would stop worrying about the county pokey...they would have a new fear to worry about. No running water, no tv, no electricity. Just pink cots in a pasture.

I know you guys are speaking from what you hear...but do you realize that there are such people as material witnesses. Based upon some of your early comments before the ND updated the story, I would contact the ND to get your info to be a material witness.

Ntzcop: I hope that you are not that stupid to use your true status online. Your judgemental comments are truly inappropriate if you are a cop. I know that you have a code of conduct of how to act outside the uniform. Some things are left best unsaid.

Posted by lincoop (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 10:02 a.m. (Suggest removal)

ntzcop, I am a friend of Bo's it hurts me to even look at that pic, why don't you look at it and picture him as your son, and he was not in his mid twenties, but you wouldn't know because you didn't know him, you claim you knew he sold drugs, but did you know he paid some of the bills for people he was close to so their kids would not be in the dark. Did you know he went to have Sunday dinners with his mother, somthing she will never have again, or how he told the kids he was around how blessed they were because they have things that he didn't have as a child, and how they don't have to get out in these streets, NO you didn't know that, cause you didn't know him. We are so quick to judge people, you don't know the demons he had to fight everyday. Have you ever been a poor, black male? Its the older generation, who misguided us, today is only a product of yesterday. If we teach our children, hug, and tell our children we love them, then they can watch any movie out or listen to any song thats out,and it won't influence them, but if we don't teach them, then the music and the movies will. If everybody stop pointing and start asking have I done all I should,if I see the little boy next door without a father or a positive role model, can't I take him with me and my son somtimes, think how many Bo Diddley's we could save. we reap what we sew,if we don't sew wisdom and love in our children, when its time for them to take care of us we won't get it out of them, you only get out what you put in. May god Bless us all.

I would like to send my condolences to the friends and family of Ronnie "BO Diddley" Jones, know matter what these people are saying about your son, he did have a good heart, so you take that and hold on to it. God will seperate the right from the wrong, and how man judges people is not the way my God judges us!

Mommyof3 the WAITE woman was arrested for

Patricia L. Waite, 37, 1 E. Circle, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of child desertion, four counts of improper supervision of minors and one count of second degree cruelty to juveniles. No bond set.

Then it is s aid that her 22 month old had to have a rape test..

It may be more than one father of the children. There still should be someone from their family that cared enough to check on them at some point. If she was arrested for cocaine recently, why did she even have custody of them?

Haven't a clue. Could be 2 fathers but ever how many fathers there is looks like they would care enough about ther kids to get them out of this situation.

Same thing i said mwhittington and froggie.. They should have thought about his mom and dad before putting this picture in the paper. That would have to be the hardest thing for a parent to do is bury a child must less seeing that picture.

Posted by timnoklahoma (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 11:11 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I think that picture just MIGHT make somebody wake up and say to themself,"You knoe self, that could just as well have been me under that quilt. I might need to fix the way I am living and fly right from now on"---of course their wording would not be as eloquent. LOL

He might have been trying to run away but he could not hold up his pants, run, and get his gun out all at the same time. His pants fell to his knees, he fell, and then was shot. Speaking of that, there is a vote in Duncan, Oklahoma, today to ban people wearing their pants too low on their body. If this passes, you can no longer show your drawers, your crack, or nothing else. Hope it does pass because Lawton is using that vote there as a test to see if we might bring it to the voters here.

You know the SAD saying in the news world is "If it bleeds, It leads.". If I were family of this man I would be PISSED! Yes! I said it and it will probably get deleted. Oh Well! They should NOT have put that in there. Maybe one of those standing around in the back ground is the killer. It wouldn't be the first time the Democrat had them on the front page before the police had them in custody.

How mush do ya'll want o bet that Waite's case will be dismissed like most of the other cases listed in the courthouse records?

Posted by frogprincenessntz (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 11:23 a.m. (Suggest removal)

It is so simple, but at the core of it, you have to know and believe God is exactly who He says He is and He means exactly what He says. God is love, but perfect love. He said if I did any of these things, I would be guilty and would be under a sentence of death. No excuses accepted. Once I admitted that I was a sinner, guilty and deserving of the death sentence God decreed, I knew I needed a savior. Jesus Christ, God's Son, was the only one who could save me by taking my place for the death sentence. God did not let me off or forgive me. Jesus died for my sins, and that is the only reason they were wiped out. Once I accepted His sacrifice for me, I invited His Holy Spirit into my body and heart to live. I was instructed to try to be like Him. He did not crave the trapping of this world. He fished to eat and owned only what He had on His back. You cannot get much poorer than He was, but He never bellyached about it. He spent His days working and doing good for others. He commanded me to do just as He told the woman at the well. He had wiped out my sins...go and SIN NO MORE! That is only possible with His continued presence in my life, with my eyes on Him and not on the things of this world.

I agree with my cousin "iluvajones", Bo Diddley probably did a lot of things that many doesn't agree with, but he was a very good guy. No I can't make excuses for the wrong things he did but I know and many others know all the good he has done!!!! He was a very sweet guy that will help anyone he came in contact with. I sit hear reading all the hurtful comments that people had said on here and it makes me sad that you will judge someone harshly just because he didn't always do the good thing in life. You got to realize he was someone father, brother, son, uncle, and boyfriend. His mom will never share a meal or conversation with her son again, His children will never hear their father voice again, His girlfriend will never make new memories of love again. Do you still think he deserve to die? I am his girlfriend cousin and I wish her all the luck in healing from this incident, even though it's going to take some time remember family and friends will always have your back!!!!

Well I make all the judgement calls with my son. I cringe when I think of what his mean hateful father would do if he saw him with pink braces.... I am so grateful he has NO rights to him... Perhaps that is another reason my son felt like doing it.... who knows.... He would want his tips highlighted and I would take him(when the boys were actually doing SOMETHING with their hair) and his dad would take him and shave it..... EVERYTIME

My huband would probably take our boys to have thier's done. I am so thankful you got out of htat relatinship. You probably wouldn't be the person you are now had you stayed.

I think that if you let your child make some decisions not any that will harm them it makes them who they are. my son will wear pink before his sister will lol...

I am confused how a person can be sooo bad but yet soooo good.... So many are defending this man, and that is their right, and it may be true, BUT look what the "bad" got him??? sad sad

lol @ mwhittington they might be not sure....

I hear ya mommyof3...

Posted by toosweet23 (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 12:03 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Yes, I knew Bo diddly, but we must remember that there is some good in the worst of us, and there is some bad in the best of us. Maybe he did pay bills for some, but you have also got to remember that maybe someone else had to go in the dark because their parents spent their electric bill money on crack. Wrong is wrong and right is right. I feel for his family because to lose smeone like this is sad. I don't know his mother but my heart goes out to her because that IS her child.

I need to go see where buttercup is today. Going to check my space and check on her

toosweet23-You are right he is someone's son, grandson, cousin. it was a senseless act of violence and I hope and pray that his murderer is found. I pray that when they do find that person the court system doesn't "slap him on the wrist'. That would bne a complete blow to the face for the victim's family.

Posted by COOLDADDY3 (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 12:11 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Everybody does have a darkside but they can ctrl it better than others but it will come out every now and then. Just hope when it happens they dont hurt anybody or themselves.

I don't care for pink... but the secretary at the school made a good point. She said some girls like blue and that's a boy color.... (my favorite color is blue) lmao

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 12:16 p.m. (Suggest removal)

That's true cooldaddy3 some worse than others.

Posted by mwhittington (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 12:16 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Well what if it was a murderer or child molester but he did good things too.... like paid peoples bills etc... is he forgiven?? Drugs kill. Doing them and selling them kills. It is truly a tragedy for someone to lose their life that had been given to them to promote the Glory of God. I pray for all involved especially any children.

I can't help myself cooldaddy...... I don't mistreat men, I just don't like them too much... LOL... I have a ton of male friends... always have... I hunt, fish, mud ride etc.... I hate shopping or town..... So I seem to relate more to men sometimes... The bottom line is I have no desire to ever trust a man enough to marry him. My friends and family find this hard to believe and bug me about it. Like they can't understand why I don't want to be happy... HELLO..... I am happy!!!! that's all I meant cooldaddy

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 12:31 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Wonder where mommy went

Posted by ilovemykids (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 12:33 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Natchez is getting to be ridiculous. I have three small children and I always said I would never leave Natchez because I thought this would be a safe place to raise them. Was I wrong? I won't judge the victim because I knew of him but I didn't know him. I have heard that he would help people who were in need. No one deserves to die and I give my sympathies to all his family and friends. But I would also like to believe that by the time my kids are older I won't have to deal with anything like this. I do my best with my kids and maybe his mom did her best. I don't know anyone who has not once made a bad choice in life. So Ntzcop just because this young man chose to sell drugs does not mean he should have been killed. In jail maybe dead no. If he had something to do with another murder and the judicial system didn't make him pay for it, God will deal with that. We can not judge, we should leave that to the man above.

I LUV U BO DIDDLEY VERY MUCH

Posted by iluvajones (anonymous) on October 23, 2007 at 12:37 p.m. (Suggest removal)

No the child molestor should not be forgiving but the child didn't choose to be molested the drug user chose that life so why do we as a people come done on the drug dealer. Let's not forget that they made that choose for their lives and I don't care it's not about him being a drug dealer or whateva it's about him being murdered senselessly. And I am mad as hell because NPD will never solve this case because they look at Bo Diddley as the enemy.

You are right. NPD willnot solve this case. It is being handled by ACSO. I feel like they will do the best job possible for Bo. I know the deputy in the picture. It doesn't matter if he likes you or not. He has a job to do and he does it. He does not show favortism for anyone.
