ACCS basketball coach resigns
Published Saturday, December 8, 2007
NATCHEZ — ACCS head basketball coach Billy Britt resigned Wednesday, effective immediately.
“He said he wasn’t happy with some of the things that were going on,” ACCS headmaster John Gray said. “It was very unexpected but Billy felt like it was the best thing for the school and his family.”
Britt was hired during the summer but hadn’t seen much success in coaching both the girls and boys varsity teams.
The Lady Rebels have just one win while the boys team is struggling as well.
Gray said parents expressed concerns with Britt’s coaching style after an incident during Monday night’s 50-25 loss to the Centreville Lady Tigers.
“The parents weren’t used to his style of coaching,” Gray said. “A few of them wanted to meet with coach Britt. So he and coach (Buddy) Wade met a few days after the game took place.”
Gray said he hoped Britt would have changed his mind about leaving the school and wished it wouldn’t have come to that.
“I hate to see it happen to him and especially these kids,” Gray said. “They don’t need it.”
ACCS Athletic Director Paul Hayles said he would take over as the head coach for the varsity girls’ team and current boys junior varsity coach Rick Fife would take over coaching the varsity boys’ squad.
“Hopefully things will turn out for the best,” Hayles said. “We wish him the best.”
Britt will continue to teach at ACCS until the fall semester ends. later this month.

To Destiny: Obviously you were never at any of the games, or you would not have asked such a stupid question. If you were there and did not notice then please seek help.
Thank God for Coach Fife. He may not lead our team to a state championship this year but at least the boys will feel good about themselves for playing their hearts out.

((percious))) destiny's question wasn't has 'STUPID' as YOUR COMMENT you just posted! if that's how you answer some ones curiosity then you SHOULD be the one SEEKING the HELP! if people like you and the coach (if he is as mean as your post claim) then i'm glad ((DESTINY)) along with myself and Many OTHERS did not attend the games, and has no clue that the 'prefect lil over RATED private school' has it's flaws and are brought into light!!
as for as the basketball teams.. GIRLS AND BOYS play the game kids!! don't let the game or these 'adults' try and play you! you play because you like playing and have fun!! that's what it is all about! it's not about winning and going to playoffs! (even though that does sound nice haha) Ya'll just play!!! good luck in the games to come!! ;)

It was more than parents not being use to his coaching style. A coaching style is not humiliating, degrading, and constantly threatening the kids. Kids do not have fun when they are treated that way! They didn't deserve his treatment and his resigning was overdue.

buttercup26: it is called "venting" one's frustration over something that has been a long-time coming. everyone who has anything to do with the school and this matter knew what was going on. there was no need for questioning. and i like you, am entitled to my opinion and yes will be the first to admit that i need help in understanding how things can go on as long as they have. also, if you do not attend the games of this school and do not support the program then why bother caring what goes on there. it is people like you who receive some type of thrill when bad things happen at the "perfect lil over RATED private school".

Get a life and stop being so disrespectful to others. Who are to say something so stupid to a person who simply asked, "What's the reasoning behind this"? I'll tell you who you are. A stupid person for not simply telling her the facts. You have a major anger problem.

Your name should be monstrous, not precious. There's nothing precious about you.

((peace)) i completely agree with you darlin!! all ((precious)) had to do was put a lil light on the situation and either answer her question or not.. but putting she's STUPID into oh NO!! that's one lil lady that is far from stupid ((PRECIOUS)) and to you, you 'vented' THE WRONG WAY ON THE WRONG ARTICLE TO THE WRONG POSTER. it's a simply question!! you sound ANGRY THAT THIS WAS POSTED ABOUT THE 'prefect lil overrated school' haha!! get over it!I'M GLAD THEY DID POST IT!! now i'll post a few things about it also... finally after begging and pleading with my lil girl's father!! he pulled her from ACCS!! he was spending way too much money just to be able to use THE NAME! now maybe when she is older she will return to that school and i will be all involved with the sports and cheer leading!! but until then, i think i would like to rely on the newspaper and peoples opinions about the school.. as far as me supporting the program! i support it whole heartily! maybe not physically or finically (anymore) (wait a sec. i never paid into that school, i refused too. that was all the baby daddy doing) but i support anything that is positive to a kids well being!!! ANYTHING!! NOW stop sounding soo angry and STUPID! and allow everyone's opinion..
have a great weekend!! :)

I was just e-mailed that I had stepped on some one's toes here in answer to this article. As it turns out it was you >>>>precious<<<<. Well then let me state, I was not being stupid. I just wanted to know why he resigned. No, I do not attend sports anymore more. In the past I have attended probably more sporting events than you have up to date. Being an advocate for children, it perplexes me as to why his resignation was not forced sooner, if he was such a detriment to the children's activity. Had it been any of my children that received such disrespect from an adult I would have seen to his forced retirement much sooner than you parents did. The tuition at ACCS is much to expensive for you parents to allow such extreme misconduct from any one person on the payroll at the school. Now I guess my stupid question is this, WHY DID YOU ALL ALLOW IT TO PROGRESS TO SUCH A STATE???? Now who is the stupid one??? Choose your words wisely dear one, they can always come back to haunt you. Have a good day and Happy Holidays to you and the family. OH, by the way. I'm a published author. What have you done to leave as leagacy to your children????

Thanks for your comment buttercup26. I realize how STUPID I sound and should not have taken my frustration out on destiny. I was wrong and have no problems admitting my fault. Lesson learned. No one school is the right school for every child and I don't know of a single school in Natchez that doesn't have problems. Nothing makes a parent more angry than to see their child be degraded and humilated by those entrusted to BUILD them up and then to feel powerless to do anything about it. I am not angry now and will have a great weekend. Thank you.

The use of words like stupid and idiot make it hard to listen to what the person using them has to say. I noticed destiny seems to be offended by the implication that she asked a stupid question, but on The Vidalia Riverfront article she used form of idiot and stupid in reference to others comments. Everyone has a voice and should use it, but not to say these horrible, hurtful things about the opinions or character of others. it is counterproductive and causes hard feelings.

Usually I do not sit here and defend myself. I found out a long time ago to argue with an ignorant person is wasting precious time and that only proves to be foolish, and I am never stupid, ignorant, or foolish. Thank you >>>peacerulz and buttercup<<<. Go back, NOTABIGOT, and re-read my post, for your own good.

There is no excuse ever to use words like stupid or idiot or any form of them. There are thousands of ways to express and opinion without being rude. And as far as I can tell, there was only one racist comment. The rest were in defense of people who work hard.

hahha!! thank you ((peace)) we all know what ((destiny's)) intentions where on the other article.. ((notabigot)) sounds to be close to the one that started the RACIAL tension in the other article. So to you ((not)) you won't get a reply back from ((destiny)) as she stated clearly she has learned long ago not to argue with "ignorant person is wasting precious time and that only proves to be foolish," soo ((not)) you take that and roll with it how you wish..
have a great weekend with what's left of it!! :)
for it to be christmas we are prancing around down here on the coast in shorts and t's!! haha! this keeps up i'm going to have to hit the tanning bed!! haha!

Hey buttercup!!!!! Well first, you gave me a good laugh. Thanx for that. Destiny can know that if we don't catch something right off the bat, we will see it eventually and have her back. Don't worry about that.
What i want to know is if you or Destiny know if there is a band after the parade??? Somebody mentioned it last week and but i don't know where it is or who it is. I forgot all about it until today.

Here it is again. I miss all the fun; Don't know anything about a parade or band or nothing. My son came and took me shopping and I got some eggnog haha. Buttercup knows what I'm talking about. Ha, can't even type any more. Can't even see the keys . OOOPPS!!!! One eggnog and look what happens. Got off the juice a long time ago so you know how one will hit me. HEY, SWEET THINGS THANKS FOR GOING THE DISTANCE FOR ME TODAY. LOVE YA BUNCHES. But you know something, I don't let things like this get me down. When I have such dear ones that will take the time to e-mail me, I know everything is ok. I'm talking about the ones that post here on all the articles. I love to talk with you and sometimes I get carried away, I know, but it's so good to have this forum and be able to hear from my new friends everyday. You just don't know how much some of you brighten my otherwise dull existence. I work on my second book and when I get frustrated with that I can always come here and talk with you. I appreciate ya'll so much. Most of you posters have become very dear to me and I don't ever want to lose you. I surely can take critisim from you for I know it's always corrective critisim and I know you have respect for me as I have for you. I guess I should stop now and finish decorating my little tree. My grandbabies will be here and I want it ready for them, I should say my great grandbabies. I don't know if I can get up tho', this eggnog tastes sooooo gooood. Nite, nite, don't let the bed bugs bite. (tee-hee)

Coach Paul Hayles will not be leaving ACCS any time soon. As you read in the article he will be taking over the coaching position. And as for the "privileged little private school" and 'perfect lil over RATED private school' comments. I have nothing to say at all because you people can think what you want to think but you have no right to judge a school without being an actual student there.
Have a wonderful holiday season.

((rebels)) your right! but my child was an actual student of that school up till about a month ago.. and a close friend of mine son goes to that school, and he has complained about it over and over.. but there are flaws in EVERY SCHOOL! i'm just glad the paper finally brought one of them out into the public!!
MERR CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALSO!! :)

Okay, the last time i checked this isn't a chat room so how about everybody stick to leaving comments about the article! And for those of you who have nothing to do with the school, you have no right to judge it or the people there.

((rebels17)) why don't you worry about your school and not the comments! seems the school is needing all the attention it can get... no one was judging the school. i was speaking of the experience that my little girl went through while she did have something to do with that school. if you also notice i also said that the other 'rebel' was right, EVERY SCHOOL HAS FLAWS!!
or did you miss that comment? lol well anyway.. have a great week in SCHOOL TOMORROW..
and you have a MERRY CHRISTMAS ALSO!! :)

ooh ooh my turn! LOL... rebels most ppl who comment on the democrat are no longer in high school.. they may have children who attend accs and you need to realize that they may not like the way things are there.. same goes for trinity, cathedral, and the public school, etc. So why don't you worry about your homework and football games (or whatever sport) and try to get into a good college and make something great of yourselves! You all have it in you just be as passionate about your life as you are about your school! Leave the fighting and arguing to all us overgrown children! LOL :)

As an old retired coach. I'm glad I'm retired. One things for sure you people have gotten your moneys worth for your email service this month. What's sad is the kids end up being the losers in this whole situation no matter who's at fault. I'm glad I played and coached in the old days. If it makes any of you feel better then blame it all on me so you can move on the the next topic

((coacht)) i agree with you.. the children are the ones that always get the wrong end of the deal..
after reading this article again.. what does it mean the kids wasn't use to that kind of coaching? or was this coach just that nasty? and i'm like destiny if he WAS JUST THAT NASTY why did the parents who pay such a high dollar amount allow this coach to continue to coach their kids? (i know if it was my child and the coach was that NASTY regardless to WHAT SCHOOL IT IS! they wouldn't had a BASKETBALL TEAM UNTIL THE COACH WAS REPLACE!) i grew up playing softball, and some years i had coaches that dug into our butts!! they meant business!! and every year we would rank right there on top, then some years we would have these 'coaches' that did it just for the title and we were in the bottom to almost last! haha! don't get me wrong we had fun playing around tooo!! then getting into highschool i finally decided to go out for the softball team! oh that woman right there! i thought i was dying! lol, but she is one dang good coach!! and was greatly missed when she lefted a couple years ago..

I hate to hear the teams are having this trouble and I know it is difficult to change coaches from year to year and I can only imagine how it impacts a team to have to switch mid season like this. On another note I played with Rick (Coach Fife) and I know he enoys the game, enjoys working with the kids and he knows what it takes to win. So I wish the boys and Coach Fife the best.
