Logan named in steroid list
Published Friday, December 14, 2007
NATCHEZ — Former Natchez High star and current Washington Nationals outfielder Nook Logan is denying claims that he took steroids.
Logan was named Thursday in Major League Baseball’s catalog list on steroids, the Mitchell Report.
The report, released after a 19-month investigation by former Sen. George Mitchell, named 86 current and former MLB players, including stars such as Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Barry Bonds and Jason Giambi.
Logan was listed on page 277 of the 409-page report.
Former New York Mets clubhouse attendant and convicted steroid distributor Kirk Radomski told Mitchell that Logan purchased one kit of human growth hormone from him in late 2005, the report says.
According to the report, Radomski told Mitchell that he had between six and eight conversations with Logan about the use of performance enhancing substances.
In the course of one of these conversations, Logan confirmed he had received the shipment from Radomski, the report claims.
Logan strongly denied ever using steroids when reached on his cell phone late Thursday.
“I’ve never taken steroids a day in my life,” Logan said. “The people who represent me know everything. I’ve never taken steroids.”
Logan said he had not decided whether to take legal action, saying he needed to speak with his agent and attorney.
Logan’s agent, Sam Levinson, did not return a message left for him Thursday night.
Logan played both baseball and basketball at Natchez High, and graduated in 1998.
He was drafted by the New York Yankees out of high school but chose to attend Copiah-Lincoln Community College, where he helped lead the Wolves to the 2000 Junior College World Series.
Logan was drafted from Co-Lin by the Detroit Tigers and spent the first five years of his career in the organization.
He spent last season with the Nationals, where he batted .265 with 21 RBIs in 118 games. He also stole 23 bases during the season.
Co-Lin baseball coach Keith Case, who coached Logan in college, said he was surprised that Logan’s name was on the list.
“I hate it for him,” Case said. “I know him and his family. He’s a great guy from a great family.”
Case said the blame shouldn’t rest solely with the players named in the report, but with Major League Baseball as well.
“It is baseball’s fault that it has gotten this far,” Case said. “You could point the finger at baseball and the players union before the players.”
Case said Logan was a well-liked guy who spoke at the team’s Christmas banquet last year.
“He’s very family oriented and very social. Everybody loves him,” Case said. “I hate to see his name in the report. But is that going to change the way I feel about him? Not at all.”

ok it said he talked about using them. where is the proof its ones word against anothers. i am like coach case i dont falt him for it. hell half of highschool players take steriods its sad. the reason these veteran players are taking the stuff is to keep up with kids out of collage and highschool.

I have known Nook since he was playing 8 year old baseball with my youngest brother. They remain close to this day and he is like another member of our family. I have always had the highest respect for Nook and will continue to support him whatever outcome this probe has. No one I know understands the pressures of trying to make it in the big leagues besides Nook, and he has always remained humble in his quest to play a game he has loved his entire life. Nook, you know you always have the support of Cory and our entire family. If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to call. You will remain in my prayers and never forget how proud we are of you!

Ok, I know Nook. I just can't believe what I am reading. Nook came home to be a pall bearer at a classmates dad's funeral. He is a great guy. I hope this all gets sorted out and his name is cleared.
Nook, I am praying for you. The battle you have coming is going to be a long one. And for better or worse this guy has for some reason decided to throw you a square ball. Keep your head up. We still have faith in you.

I don't know if Nook did or didn't, only he can say for sure. But what I am not going to do is make excuses for those who do. At whatever level the sport is, using steroids is wrong and is cheating. From what people are saying above, it was ok if Nook did it b/c he had to try and compete on that level. Thats B.S.
I don't know Nook that well, but he is one of the few people that I believe would not of taken steroids, but if he did, and it is proven, he should face the consequences.

You are right mike8427.Let me clarify, it is not okay if he did. It is wrong and it is cheating. And he should face consequences definitely. But regardless, I wanted him to know he has my support as a human who can fall from grace. We all have pressures in everyday life and make wrong decisions, some of ours just aren't broadcast nationally thank goodness! It just won't change how my family feels about him.

I have known Nook since the day he was born, and I KNOW he is a very nice guy. He worked very hard to get where he is, and someone is always there to try and pull him down. Let his character speak for him. God is in charge of everything and Nook's name will be cleared, I love you Nook, you always seemed like part of my family.

I am not saying that it is ok for ANYONE To have taken steriods. I am saying that only Nook knows what went down. I don't think he took the things. I thing the dealer is just out to get anyone he can.

To all suporters of Nook........ great job!!!!!
The ND could not wait to put that on the front page. This paper is so biased. WHY didn't the ND print the story on the front page when NOOK made play of the day on ESPN. Or even when he was player of the week on ESPN. Hmm..... Seems like the ND only reports the bad stuff. By the way these are still allegations. I think a more appropriate story would be "Logan makes big league". It doesn't happen everyday. Please ND print some of the positives of the community and maybe the paper will sell more.

I don't think that The Democrat wanted to print anything negative about him. Yes, the other stories should have been front page, but i don't think that they took glee in the steroid story. It's front page news everywhere.

I think he needed to do what he had to so that he didn't have to live in Natchez anymore.

I personally do not know Nook Logan! He is innocent until proven guilty and I must give him the benefit of doubt! The one that I don't trust is the liberal Democrat by the name of George Mitchell who headed the "group"of the so-called investigation? We must support Nook! I wonder even if the so-called report is even creditable/Mitchell is surely not! Just FOOD for thought! I also understand that most of the evidence is from a "snitch" or "snitches". Mitchell also has NO law enforcement experience whatsoever and this may be a "witchhunt"! I really would like to know how Mitchell became the so-called leader of this group?

Keep your head up. This thing will pass. It's bound to now that all these people are somehow brough to light. What's he gonna do suspend all of baseball. I played football and you just don't approach someone, someone approaches you about steroids. 99% OF THE TIME YOUR'E TAKING THIM AND DON'T KNOW IT. Bonds is telling the truth.
