Jamie Lynn Spears, 16-year-old sister of Britney, says she's pregnant

Published Tuesday, December 18, 2007

NEW YORK (AP) — Another Spears baby is reportedly on the way — and it's not Britney's.

Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old "Zoey 101" star and sister of Britney, tells OK! magazine that she's pregnant and that the father is her longtime boyfriend, Casey Aldridge.

"It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected," she says. "I was in complete and total shock and so was he."

Spears is 12 weeks along and initially kept the news to herself when she learned of the pregnancy from an at-home test and subsequent doctor visit, she told the celebrity magazine, which hits stands in New York on Wednesday and the rest of the country by Friday.

"As soon as I found out for sure from the doctor, I took two weeks to myself where I didn't tell anybody," she says. "Only one of my friends knew because I needed to work out what I would do for myself before I let anyone's opinion affect my decision. Then I told my parents and my friends. I was scared, but I had to do what was right for me."

Spears broke the news to her mother, Lynne, just before Thanksgiving, the magazine says.

"She was very upset because it wasn't what she expected at all," Spears says. "A week after, she had time to cope with it and became very supportive."

Lynne Spears, already grandmother to Britney's young sons, says: "I didn't believe it because Jamie Lynn's always been so conscientious. She's never late for her curfew. I was in shock. I mean, this is my 16-year-old baby."

She says her actress daughter, the telegenic heroine of the popular Nickelodeon series "Zoey 101," has known Aldridge for years and began dating him in high school.

Jamie Lynn plans to raise the baby in her home state of Louisiana — "so it can have a normal family life."

The third season of "Zoey 101" wraps up Jan. 4.

"I haven't spoken to (Nickelodeon) personally, but they have always been so great to me over the past years and have given me so many opportunities."

What message does she want to send to other teens about premarital sex?

"I definitely don't think it's something you should do; it's better to wait," she says. "But I can't be judgmental because it's a position I put myself in."

The proud papa to be is from Liberty. It is possible he could be charged with violating the carnal knowlege of a juvenile, or something like that, if the child was conceived in Louisiana. It is legal for a 16 year old to have sex, but if the partner is more than 2 years older, the carnal knowledge law can be applied. I don't know what the MS law is. I've seen reports daddy-to-be is 18, so he's on the borderline. If we're lucky, he may soon be picking up litter along side your favorite LA highway.

it's being reported that he's 19. i doubt they'll do anything about this situation. her own mother allowed her to live with the guy.

Right Peace, they have been "shacking" for a while now, it doesn't matter now-a-days anyway, right?

Posted by peacerulz (anonymous) on December 19, 2007 at 7:16 p.m. (Suggest removal)

sure it matters. pregnant at 16 = nightmare............... i would think. some publisher was about to put out a book by the mother about parenting a "celeb" child and it's been scrapped for now at least. lol

Posted by fedup21 (anonymous) on December 20, 2007 at 12:29 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Who cares if she is pregnant. If she was not a celebrity's sister, she would be classified as another 16 year old that was caught up in the mix. I guess she never heard of a condom or plain old abstinence. Good luck with your pregnancy but so what. 16 year olds are doing the do now so she is another one that bites the dust. Play with fire, you will get burned.

((peace)) i also saw where lynne spears was in the works of writing a book about parenting a 'celeb' kid... lol but it has been put on hold indefintly! i saw a picture of the boy on the news today.. and it looks like he's in it for the camera's.. but who knows... wish her the best of luck with her pregnancy

She (and he) made a mistake. Some in the media are quick to destroy them. Because she is a role model for young girls, she should have practiced abstinence or at least been more careful. But this could be used by the network to teach what is right and wrong if they take advantage of it. They could use Zoey 101 to teach abstinence and teach a pro-life issue. But would it do more damage than good? Would young girls go out and get pregnant just to be like her?

It's a shame that this girl is pregnant at 16. This is yet another case of a child, raising a child...

It's really sad these kids didn't have the right parenting, maybe some of this could have been prevented. Maybe Jamie Lynn will be a better parent than her sister. They have really given Kentwood, La. a name
to remember. But who are we to critize look what Jerry Lee
Lewis has done to Ferriday, nothing.

Who are we to call them trash?
I could name a few families in our town, monied, pillar of the community families that have had grandkids out of wedlock...rushed weddings with a baby born 6 months later and LOTS of them with a child in rehab for drugs.

$%h!t happens, even to the very best of families...
I don't think we should judge them.

With so many news-worthy things in the world, it's a shame that a teen pregnancy is getting so much attention. She's not the first 16 year old to screw up, and she won't be the last.

Posted by mike8427 (anonymous) on December 21, 2007 at 8:40 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Ntzmom - I don't follow your logic, if these families you reference in Ntz that are pillars of the community have messed up lives, you say thats ok b/c it happens?

NO - wrong is wrong, it doesn't matter if everyone else is doing it. We have become so tolerant in this society b/c we see so much of the wrong things being done. Its time we stopped turning the other way and start trying to clean up our community. I get so aggrivated when I hearing people get off the hook b/c it happens. Thats a load of BS, too long have we been hearing "everybody's doing it, it ok"

i agree mike.

As a society we have become very much too tolerate at accepting sin as a way of life. I'm with mike 8427, it's time to put the brakes on and teach our children this is definitely not an acceptable way of life. We pray for guidance then thumb our nose at the commandants of God. What kind of society have we become to allow this as 'a way of life'?

everyone needs to realize that she did'nt want to get pregnant. she's not happy about it, i don't think, from what i've read. she knows she scr**** up.

Good luck Mike and Destiny with changing the world!

Start with telling parents to take computers out of the home, and Televisions too.

all the music that kids are downloading, have you heard the explicit versions they get.
I threw away more CD's than I can count when my daughter was in high school. all talk about sex, and in such an ugly way. I taught her better, we went to church, she went to church more than I did but the music they all listened to before and after church would make you blush. Heck it would make a drunk sailor blush, so vulgar.
MTV, sex on the tv screen, sex songs...that is the downfall of society in my oppinion.

PS, I don't have a grandchild just FYI)
Just saying that now, things are happening, and I just dont see anything changing
You see very

Jamie Lynn and this guy she is with have been together for quite a while from what I've heard... even before zoey 101... So somehow I doubt he's in it just for the cameras if this is the first time most of you are finding out about him.

Anyway, what I don't understand is why the older generation sometimes was forced into marriages at 13 and 14 and that was acceptable, yet nowadays, when people have children at 18 or younger they are told it is just too young. And my goodness getting married at 18? You are told you are too young and don't know what you are doing. I know several girls who got pregnant from 15 to 18 and they are GREAT mothers! I know women who got pregnant at 30 something and are on crack so I don't think age should predetermine whether or not society thinks you are a good parent. Give the girl a chance, heck, she has her big sister's mistakes to learn by.

Posted by peacerulz (anonymous) on December 21, 2007 at 6:12 p.m. (Suggest removal)

yeah but they've broken up now. she's just got to be a better mother than her sister cuz you can't get much worse for a mother than Britney. the girl does'nt even look at her own kids. My vote for Mother of the Year goes out to Lynne Spears of Kentwood, LA!!!!!

As a parent I'm tired of hearing about everyone looking up to television characters rather than their parents.Influences come from everywhere tv,family, friends buts its up to the parents to do their best to raise their own children.I understand that a parent can talk til they are blue in the face. They have to trust that their child will follow by their example if not you deal with the situation as it comes.People tend to forget that actors or actress are human they make mistakes. STOP EXPECTING THE TELEVISION CHARACTERS TO RAISE OUR CHILDREN.......

Oh Nikki...your children must be very young,
You are in for a huge surprise if you think you can raise them so well and let them watch the televison, listen to todays music and that your wondeful example will overcome all of the outside forces.
I wish the very best of luck!

Well at least Christina Hall hasn't had to write about one of her teenage daughters being knocked up by her 18 y/o boyfriend whom she's been shacking up with for several years. Perhaps, Christian Hall should be given Mother of the year award, and that publisher, who wanted to publish the Spears Mom's book can hire Christian to write that book on parenting.

If Britney's little sister were so much more mature than Britney, she would have gone to family planning and gotten on the pill to prevent pregnancy.

Kids, if you are gonna have sex...you could get pregnant and/or a sexually transmitted disease. Sex is what causes pregnancy. Education, education, education...it doesn't cause pregnancy...it informs.

Read the Purpose driven life . THe problem here is we are all seperated by opinions & we're judgemental, because of this we can't communicate. If we would all realize we are sinners & can't cast the first stone, then maybe we could all communicate in a way that we could reach each other. Love , forgive & try to understand--we can't solve everything that's why we pray & hand it to GOD & try to do our best . WE are human, we will stumble & fall & will continue to do so-- but it would happen a lot less if we would just reach for GODS hand-----with 2 teenagers I reach more than my share but catch myself not reaching soon enough thinking I can handle it on my own. I can't. All I can do is give ROOTS & WINGS & TRUST GOD TO HELP ME BECAUSE I STUMBLE & FALL While trying my very best. I agree with education -but include public speaking--former teenage moms--persons with HIV/AIDS

I'm over 60 with grown grandkids. I realize things are going to happen. The problem is most young girls have a family to back them up with help, but Britney & Jamie Lynn don't have that, all they have is their fame and money. At the rate that is going they won't have that many years. I think they should both be sent back to Kentwood for some serious counciling, not the kind you get in Hollywood.

there was a rumor that she was pregnant by a producer J.R. Rotem. the last thing that Unfitney Spears needs is another unwanted baby. she does'nt even want the ones she's got, poor little things.

Hey PEACE007, you need to change your name to sh** starter. Do you have girls? So you are saying that Christina Hall lets her daughter's shack up? So they are not really in college, well one of them...They are shacked up with the boyfriend? Come on tell us more lets see how accurate you are?

Posted by Peace007 (anonymous) on December 23, 2007 at 10:38 p.m. (Suggest removal)

no oldschool, you should change your name to that. I didn't say anything of the kind. I know nothing about Christina's kids. I don't know if they even date. The point I was trying to make was that her daughters have made it through high school without getting pregnant. So Christina hasn't had to write about becoming a grandparent to a single mother's child. I think I heard on the news, recently, that 3 out of 5 girls in America will become pregnant while in high school. Maybe I didn't word what I wrote correctly and it looks like I was saying something I wasn't. Or maybe you just didn't comprehend what I meant to say. I don't even know Christina Hall personally; although, I have met her. And, her father-in-law is a very nice man. I was basically trying to defend her because of the posters bashing her articles; which I happen to enjoy.

I thought it was kinda ironic that Brittney Spear's mother would write a book on parenting when Brittney hasn't been the perfect picture for making her own mother a candidate for mother of the year award.

And, if I were to write stories about my kids, and the goings on around here...ummm, well, all I have to say is that all of my kids have made it through high school without getting pregnant, lol.

But you know when something like that does happen, one just has to keep on keeping on, and learn to deal with it. Remember, it could always be worse...instead of bringing forth life, they could be destroying life. And you would fall in love with your son's baby, once you got over the shock...even if it wasn't your favorite color, lol.

Ok! I have read all these comments! Here is where I stand on this issue!

1. Teenage pregnancy happens. Not everyone who gets pregnant at 16 turns out to be a horrible mother. I happen to think that I have done a hell of a job. I worked full time, finished high school, and managed a marriage.

2. No, this pregnancy should not be put on the for front of every teen magazine and television show on. Thank God, I have 3 boys. I really do feel that due to the fact that Jamie Lynn is pregnant then she should be released from Zoey 101 or the show cancelled. This is not the example I want for my neice.

3. You can't blame the parents. I have GREAT parents. They have been married for over 30 years. They have raised my siblings and I in church. I chose to do the things that led to a baby. That was my choice. You can't be with your kids 24/7. You have to be able to trust them. I learned the hard way!

4. I can't say what I would do if one of my boys were in the situation that this young man is now in. All I can do is say that it is a sad situation.

5. I hope that Jamie Lynn learns from her sister's mistakes. I pray that she is a better mother that Britney. I really don't see how she could be any worse.

I pray she learns from her first experince of pregnancy and waits on future children.

Don't place all teen parents in the same pile. I can tell you from experince that everyday is struggle. I have to work three times as hard as anyone else. I had to get my act together and fast. I did. I just want everyone to know that we will NEVER know the whole story behind this. But let the girl make her own mistakes and don't judge her by her sister!

NOTHING, thank God!!!!!

Posted by Peace007 (anonymous) on December 26, 2007 at 10:02 p.m. (Suggest removal)

sarabug, the only reason I mentioned Christina Hall's name above in the comment section of this article...is because on another article, some folks were bashing the articles that Christina writes under the Life section of this paper, by saying her articles are always the same old boring stuff praising and bragging on her kids, etc, etc. I just wanted to say that at least she didn't have to write about one of them becoming pregnant at 16! And then oldschool tried to make it sound like I was saying something else, when I was really just trying to say that Christina writes good articles that are enjoyed by many people. Some people like to read about kids going off to college, being elected to the homecoming court and the wholesome goings on in people's lives. We should all be thankful for Christina Hall's articles, recipe tips, and stories about her kids.

angiestaylor we know a 15 yr old whose grandfather is a friend of ours who recently had a baby by a 16 yr old. They were 14 and 15 at the time she got pregnant, She was spending the night with his sister and swears she was drugged. So watch your kids carefully and talk to them now.
