State’s 33 delegate votes up for grabs

Published Tuesday, March 11, 2008

NATCHEZ —The contest sure to garner the most interest in today’s primary is the election between Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Both candidates are vying for the Democratic party’s presidential nomination. To win the nomination a candidate must receive 2,025 delegate votes.

Mississippi has 33 delegate votes up for grabs.

Hillary Clinton signs were waving as Bengamin Combs sang “America the Beautiful” during an election rally at the D.W. Howard Multipurpose Center in Natchez Monday evening.

Adams County employee Tim Chatman puts together a voting machine at the Beau Pré precinct. Mississippi voters go to the polls today to cast votes in the presidential primary and for congressional seats.

Voters across the state will head to the polls today to cast their ballots in the Mississippi primary election.

While actual presidential voting won’t take place for months still, primary voting has many locals ready to vote.

John R. Junkin II, with the Mississippi Republican Executive Committee, said the Republican primary likely won’t be of great interest to Republican voters since Sen. John McCain “pretty much has the nomination wrapped up.”

But the Democratic primary is still up for grabs and that’s where the excitement for many voters begins. Obama is currently 115 delegate votes ahead of Clinton with 1,553 votes. Clinton has just 1,438 votes.

Rosa Johnson said she will be voting in today’s primary.

“Obama all the way,” she said loading groceries in her trunk. “It’s time for a change.”

Johnson said Obama’s message of change and hope is one that she finds inspiring and vote-worthy.

And Johnson’s not alone. Several people said on Monday they were committed to voting for Obama in the Mississippi primary.

Natchez’s own superdelegate Everett Sanders said Johnson’s enthusiasm for Obama can be seen across the country.

Sanders said Obama’s ability to inspire and raise interest in those not traditionally involved in politics has made him popular with voters across the county.

Head of Mississippi State University’s political science and public administration departments David Breaux said this time last, year few recognized the likelihood that Obama would come as far as he has.

“He gets people excited and interested,” he said.

Breaux also said few thought the Democratic primary would have the relevance it does now.

According to Breaux many thought the primary process would not have gone far beyond Super Tuesday.

And as the primaries continue each one becomes more important, he said.

“Every vote counts,” Breaux said. “They really start to add up.”

And as those start to add up, and grow in importance, it looks as if they might get tallied in the Obama column.

Shirley said she was not fully decided between Obama and Clinton but was leaning toward Obama.

“It’s going to make history,” she said.

This should be a slam dunk. I will be slightly surprised if Obama doesn't win by more than 10-15 points. This is why the national media is not flooding this state with reporters like they did in Texas and Ohio. The national media is just waiting for Pennsylvania in 5-6 weeks and any personal attacks that occurs between the two in the meantime. At least for once Mississippi does have somewhat of voice in the primary season. Unless they change something, odds are that it will be the last time for a long time. So everyone go out there and make your voice heard regardless of who you vote for.

I never saw a candidate like Barack Obama. He speaks truth. He is trustworthy. He has incredible leadership ability. His diplomatic skills are powerful and instinctive, there is no way Hillary or McCain can compete. This is the kind of President I want to see. Pro-gressive instead of re-gressive. Honorable and ethical for my kids. Obama's idea is to take government to a new direction. It's about focusing on cooperation and unity. Get rid of those old Democrats, all their "experience" was a waste of time! Let's face it, if you know how to build consensus, you don't need to fight. Obama - he's what great leaders are all about. President Obama is a LEGENDARY leader. Yes he is.

J A G,

I want to ask you about your belief that Obama is ethical. I want to ask you if you are a Christian. If you are not, then ignore everything I say after this. If you are, then I want to know why you support someone who is pro-death and pro-gay civil unions which are both clearly against what God claims to be right in the Holy Bible. God states again and again that He knits people in the womb and is the creation of all that is living. Obama is pro-death (opposite of pro-life) which appalls me. I don't know if he is as bad as Hillary though. She opposed a ban on partial-birth abortion. If you don't know, partial-birth abortion is when a baby is partially born. It's head is accessible from the vaginal canal and the doctor makes an incision in the child's head and then they use a vacuum to collapse the skull. That's how I had it explained to me and I literally cried when I heard it. I nearly threw up. That's why I didn't support John Kerry because he voted against the same ban. Even if Obama is just a regular pro-death democrat, it is still taking away God's creation. The other issue is that Obama supports gay civil unions. This one is easy. God clearly states that homosexuality was not HIs intention when He created mankind and says its wrong in His holy Word. So any self-professing Christian out there can not vote for either of the Democrat candidates in the general election if you have the Holy Spirit abiding within you. God will not allow you.

“He gets people excited and interested,” he said. HAHAHA, I laugh at this statement because the last Democrat we had in office ACTUALLY DID get people excited! No, like really! I dunno if it was on his desk or what, but he got them excited! What a joke! VOTE MCCAIN!!!!!

People say what you like, but I AM voting for Obama. Who are you to judge? "He who is without sin let him cast the first stone. Are you worthy of throwing that stone? God is and he will allow it to happen. OBAMA WILL BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT. I HAVE THAT KIND OF FAITH AND SO IT SHALL BE DONE.

Question for Obama supporters. What specific changes have you heard Mr. Obama put out there in public? I understand the need for change and wouldn't mind some different ideas from Washington, but until you specifically lay out the changes you will make it's just empty rhetoric. I challenge you to come up with even ONE Specific Change, he has promised to make in Washington.

To the McCain supporters, Do you find it odd no other POW has stepped forward to support him, do you find it odd other military groups do not endorse him? If not for the fact that he was shot down and captured his military career would shadow that of Bush. He has not commanded any troops and only saw 22 hours of combat total. Yes he was a POW for 5 and 1/2 years but not in solitary confinement as they try to make us believe. He has had special treatment his entire life.

I admire McCain for what he as a POW went through regardless.....Vietnam was horrible for our guys over there and the thought of being a POW is mind blowing. Having said that, I am not voting for him instead I am going with Hillary...even though I think Obama gives great speeches what the hell has he done?

He is a newer slicker version of Jesse Jackson, and by the way where is Jesse and Al Sharpton and Louis Farakan and Joe Lowery and where are all these people well they are waiting in the wings, it is a front they all put up a front to get elected heck we have people that have never worked never paid one red cent in taxes never done anything responsible packing the election booth and we are supposed to celebrate that I for one think way too many peopole have lived way too long on the backs of others,, When the fate of the whole can be decided or influenced by the opion of the needy and those looking for a handout then you are in trouble and this country is in trouble.

This country is in trouble because of greed. The jobs went overseas because of greed. The deficit is so high because of greed. Gas is so high because of greed. Bring back the Hippies and get this country back on track.

The Ron Paul Revolution is just getting started.
As a republician i will NEVER support McCain. The Democrats will take this round,Clinton with her VP being Obama.
I never believed in the"vast right wing conspiracy" but the NEOCONS have proved me wrong.

Swapmeet, you speak alot of pre-death groups, would the current administration be considered a pro-death group? We launched a major war into Iraq in 2003 for very unclear reasons. It has killed over 100,000 soldier and civilians. What is your stance on this topic? True Christians do not support wars, so I find it odd so many "Christians" support Bush.

The hippies are what drove the cost up on everything. Putting regulations on absolutely everything. Haven't built a refinery in over 30 years. 30 years ago we averaged 1 car per household and now we are over two with more families. It doesn't take an econimist to figure this out. Hippies want allow us to build anymore power plants. Keep adding regulations and taxes to corporations and keep paying people $15.00 per hour to sweep the floor and you will soon have no industry. BRING BACK THE HIPPIES.

Obama will never win because the American people have enough wisdom to vote for someone who has a proven record of working for the American people, and not for his selfish political ambitions. His hollow "hope" rhetoric will be easily blown away with Hillary's solutions for America. What ever happened to substance? It went out the window when Obama decided to run for President, relying upon one's base emotions to concoct poor souls to vote for spoken change. I thought Hillary was being generous with offering the VP spot to Obama; he will be the one begging her in the end!! Please vote for Hillary and send a clear, resounding message to the junior Illinois senator that their votes are more important than his desire to brainwash people with his xeroxed messages. Maybe he should star in Chicken Little, and leave the hard stuff to Hillary!!

Posted by beammeupscotty (anonymous) on March 11, 2008 at 8:31 a.m. (Suggest removal)

The lifestyle of the hippies didn't require more refineries being built. More than 1 household used the same car. If not for global climate change effecting the world we would have a better environment. A better environment means better air, water and food supply. A better life from healthier living means less medical costs. Just maybe the hippies did have it right. Recycle everything and waste nothing.

At this point in time, we have no choice! We are getting to many illegal aleins in here with no where to send them! Americans are just getting to soft-hearted! Wake up!

Isn't it obvious that since Mississippi allows Republicans to vote in the Democratic primaries (and McCain already has their nomination and they know he can't beat Hillary), that a lot of Republicans will cook the votes in favor of Obama?

That says a lot about Obama doesn't it? If they are that scared of Hillary in the general election, then maybe she is undefeatable.

Posted by freedom42 (anonymous) on March 11, 2008 at 9:19 a.m. (Suggest removal)

That makes 3 more new posters to add to the 8 last night, bringing us to a total of 11!
Obama also voted for partial birth abortion.
Christians do support war if they feel it is justified, which I do feel the war in Iraq was needed. No war is without the killing of innocent people, but until Christ comes again wars will continue no matter if we approve of them or not.

The very latest Rasmussen poll has McCain tied with Clinton and Obama in general election matchups. So to say that Republicans will vote against one or the other is plain stupid. Neither is worth the vote.

Hope-- any fool that needs a politician to give them hope actually needs to see either a preacher or a psychiatrist and maybe get a prescription of antidepressants. You will not find hope by listening to the lies of any politician

Change-- I guanantee you the only change Democrats will bring is more SOCIALISM, more entitlements, mandated insurance programs that will not work. All of this means HIGHER TAXES. Obama says he will cut taxes for the middle class, ask any accountant - middle class people only pay at the most 10% of their income in fed tax as it is now, that's fair the way I see it. Increase taxes for the rich? Well what are they doing for the poor? If you tax the rich more, you will DECREASE employment and HURT THE POOR. If you raise minimum wage you decrease employment even more. We have to have a fair tax system of some sort. Everyone should pay a fair share, but not take more from one segment and give FREE MONEY to others.

The Democrats do not understand basic supply and demand economics and insist on monkeying with our lives by instituting more government rules and increase the cost of doing business.

Be honest -- if you are voting for whomever will give you more you are voting to have your freedoms of choice TAKEN AWAY. Do you want government telling you how to live, telling you what doctor to see, what hospital to go to? Participating in government controlled healthcare will take away your freedom of choice.

Be a FREE AMERICAN and vote for protecting our country, by keeping illegal immigrants OUT, continuing the war against terrorism by STAYING IN IRAQ and keeping taxes down for everyone.

Obama says straight out he will take the troops out of Iraq which will lead to immediate destabilization of the entire Middle East region, sending prices of oil through the roof. Iran will invade Iraq and seiqe the Straits of Hormuze. If you think gasoline is high now, you should think it through what the effects of Obama foreign policy will do.

He also states he will immediate rescend ALL of Bush's tax cuts. Our economy will plummet as all companies, wealthy folks that give workers a job, anyone that is paying taxes, will have no choice but to CUT jobs, CUT their spending, and RAISE PRICES to offset MORE TAXES. Come on, he's just telling you what you want to hear and getting you hyped up,

Bottom line is - Democrat voters are greedy and are not thinking of our country , only what kickbacks they can get in tax refunds, welfare, and other entitlements. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Obama or Hillary? Is there a choice?

They are both the same! The only things I have heard from either of them are:

Hillary- Healthcare- and her policy doesn't make sense- she says FREE UNIVERSAL healthcare that is mandated for everyone to participate and PAY premiums. Does that sound free to you? You will pay by giving up freedom of choice and of course pay a premium you pack of idiots.
That's all I've heard her say really, because on Iraq she voted for it and has flip flopped several times on whether to withdraw the troops or not.

Obama- I heard him say he'd give $4000 for college tuition IF you joined the peace corps for whoknowshowlong.
I've heard him say cut taxes for the middle class. I've heard him talk about healthcare. And of course he will give us all HOPE and CHANGE. I need more than change I need some big dollars.(joke) Hope and can get from my prayers and I don't need him for hope.

It's hard to talk much about their policies because they have not told us anything in specifics other than the above, to my knowledge of what they will do.

So if you have FAITH in the UNKNOWN vote democrat. And you are a FOOL. At least have some self respect and find out more than empty promises.

Others have commented on the Democrat party platform of being FOR ABORTION and FOR GAY MARRIAGE.

I don't really have anything against homosexuals, but I don't think legal marriage should be changed to suit them. Marriage should remain a legal, faithful, and religious union of a man and a woman to include the contract of properties and inheritance that should not be tampered with.

Any decent person is against abortion, except in the case of incest, rape, or life threatening health situation, I think any reasonable person can understand and protect a woman in those cases.

Based on these ethical choices I know how I'll vote. If you don't have the moral backbone to do the right thing in the voting booth I feel sorry for you and worry for the future of our country with such unethical scoundrels as democrats having the right to a vote.

My brother was killed in Vietnam; another war that wasted thousands of lives. Now McCain in trying to justify Bush-Cheny by sucking up to them after they slimed him eight years ago. He has even hired Karl Rove. What a man.

His stand on abortion alone is enough to have me not wanting to see him win. Do not vote for him, please. And Hillary, well, Hillary couldn't even do anything for our healthcare when she was Mrs. President . The way I see it is nobody wants to be in a war , but more than that , nobody in their right mind wants the fighting to be in our homeland . We knew from the get go this war in Iraq wasn't going to be quick . We can't wish it so . McCain is our choice .

All these last-minute antics and acts of desperation in the form of badgering comments are just too funny!!! When the dust clears this evening, we'll see who Mississippi chooses to lead our country . . . we'll see AND we will accept it! Any so-called American who does not support democracy by allowing people to voice their opinion thru their vote needs to be in the Middle East, Korea or some other place other than America. Go live among those who think like you do!!! Stop trying to force your will on everybody else who does not think like you do! Please remember that it's your kind of thinking and the people you elected (Republicans, mainly) who've gotten us in this horrible mess we are in now!

Step back . . . take a breath . . . and get a grip!!!!

Iraq is dominated by Irans brand of Islam; 65% of the population. Bush-Cheny has delivered Iraq to Iran whether we pull out now or 20 years from now. It's a fact. So get over it Democrat haters. It's not about anything now but trying to cover up the Bush Cheny disaster.

Karl Rove is a good man. Democrats hate him for good reason, he beats them. So they do to him what they did to another good man, Ken Starr, they smear his name. That's what Democrats do. Bill Clinton can't keep his hands to himself and some how Ken Starr is to blame. Same with President Bush, they smear his name and so far NOTHING has stuck. They whine, complain like little children about meaningless things while accomplishing NOTHING in Congress. And RANGEROVER, it's more than obvious the New York Times McCain lobbyist smear was a planned attack with NO PROOF. But hey, like I said, that's what Democrats do. When you can't beat them with ideas, you smear them. Just ask the long list of former Clinton employees/friends, the ones that aren't dead.

And so you know, Vietnam was a JFK war.

Karl Rove was lucky not to be indicted just last year. Good men. You make the call and vote for him if you want. But as a Sunday school teacher and a parent I want a candidate that is focused on issues and not on his next score.

I don't care if Iraq ever becomes anything more than what it is now. Being in Iraq keeps them from coming here? That's another worn out line that even the Republicans won't use in November because it's just wrong. Our troops can't stay in Iraq because of troop strength and Bush-Cheny-McCain knows that. The troops are coming home no matter who's elected and no Republican cover up can change that. Gung ho is of no use now.

Your candidate has you hoodwinked but you are so weak minded you cannot see past his oratory gibberish. Jjohnson, we all know where you're coming from - you will vote Obama ONLY BECAUSE HE"S BLACK- we all know your racist roots. You keep talking like there is some great mess we're in these days? Of what do you speak? You have not been killed by the terrorists yet, we all still have free choice for the most part, we haven't had another attack since 9-11. Bush has the terrorists on the run, Al Qaeda intercepted messages even admit this. I'm sure you claim we're in a recession,(have you forgotten how bad Clinton had fouled up the economy!!) but I don't think the economy is all that bad really. Any one that wants to work can find a job, even here in Natchez. You just want it all handed out to you on a silver platter, get over it and go to work. The country, such as the so called mortgage crisis, is just in an adjustment period. Supply and demand will always rule the economy, there are MORE homeowners than EVER now because of Bush economics. That's why there are also more foreclosures also. Anyway, real estate brokers have done it to themselves with jacking up real estate values, it's time that properties were devalued somewhat, it's just an adjustment cycle.

Like I said earlier- If the democrats get the Congress and the White House - (just consider how the National Democratic Comm has treated the voters of Wisconsin and Florida-- DENIED them their right to vote!!) we will have more and more socialism forced upon us.

Just be aware of the silver tongued devil that promises all that you want to hear, but can deliver none of them.

Freedom, I agree with you on alot, but not this one. Christians do not support war, and this war in Iraq was not justified. I know hind sight is 20/20, but I think everyone would agree that we would of been much better off not going into Iraq. People talk above about wasting tax payers $, how many trillions are we going to spend on Iraq war and rebuilding? Not to mention the American lives we are loosing for this war.

He is going to be in debt to a lot of influential people for the rest of his life . I hope he can repay his debts at his own expense and not ours. Just stating one of those facts,ya'll

krogers, they denied Michigan and Florida because they had decided what states they wanted to vote first and so forth. that is why Mississippi was one of the last on there list to vote. Both candidates have said, in a round about way, they never thought it would still be wide open when mississippi voted. What does that say for the whole party?

McCain For President!!!

People like Krogers (i thought that was a food store) make good sheep. Name calling was what the kids on my block did when they had nothing else worthy of saying. I guess you would prefer someone for president that can't communicate ( got one now ) without name calling, racial slurs and old worn out Rove lines. Oh, and character assasination by me or Democrats; Bush-Rove took care of most of that in South Carolina eight years ago. Fox just updated the list with an assist from the New York Times.

Mike- I guess you've never read about the Crusades in the Middle East in which the Christian again and again fought like hell to capture Jerusalem. We MUST take the fight to the terrorists and keep them on the run so as to take away the advantage of initiative. Offense is the best defense in war. You talk of the cost of the war. Have you thought about the cost of NOT having that war. What if we had suffered another tragic attack the likes of 9-11? Considering the economic impact of loosing the Twin Towers, we definitely had a huge economic setback then, it would have cost us much more to allow the terrorists to organize another major attack(s). The only gripe I have is that Iraq should be paying us in oil for our high cost of liberating that country and creating the battlefield for the war against terror there in Iraq, Afghanistan, and on into Pakistan and Iran if needed. We all know it is a matter of time before we will have to fight Iran to keep them from creating effective nuclear weapons, incinerating Israel, attacking Saudi Arabia and gaining control of most all of the world's oil. We must learn our lessons from the past - WWII- the Japanese and Hitler told the world their intentions and we did not listen. Iran and the terrorists have told us plain and simple what they want to do. They are masters of deception playing games with the United Nations and covertly supporting global terrorism. Please wake up and join the fight to protect our country, it is well worth every penny we can muster to spend on ATTACKING the terrorist wherever they hide anywhere in the world and NOT WAITING for them to emerge here on our streets blowing up our school kids, or blowing up masses of people at sports events, etc.

good point southernbelle - we really don't know what Obama's real ties are and how he will react when the pressure is on. That's one thing about McCain, he's been under pressure for a long time and has served the country with dignity.

He is also one of, if not the most liberal members of the Senate.

What a shame. He would have been a joy to watch.

I support the war and the soldiers, I just wish the Generals would be in total charge of Iraq, and not 1 politician. That was the biggest mistake made in Vietnam. It did not happen in Panama back in 1989 and look, it lasted about 2 months and you have never heard another word from anybody down there trying to hurt us.

Let the generals slap the Iraqi insurgents around like ragdolls and move out of the way. Our troops are the very best in the world and can tear insurgents to shreds if we will let them do the job RIGHT.

I want the war to be fought over there, and not here like the lunatics tried to do on September 11, 2001.

Kick there butts thoroughly and then we can bring our troops home. But not before we have complete control of the enemy. If we leave before we have complete and total surrender on their part, we will have to go back again. History has proven that.

Rangerover and Beammeup-- McCain doesn't namecall or mudsling

you guys are incapable of logical thinking

how dare you claim that more democrats have died in war than republicans- that is so off the wall and shameful

I dare say there are more Republican officers than democrats though, and I know for a fact that right now there are more republican soldiers than democrats because the only way a democrat would fight for anything is if he/she were drafted

you guys cannot talk issues- because your candidates have given you nothing to talk about- only a fool would vote for someone they know nothing about- Obama has been a Illinois Senator for 3 years and missed 40% of his votes, and when he did vote most of the time he didn't even have the guts to vote yea or nay, only to declare present, that's disgustingly cowardly and noncommital.
He has not passed any bills. NOT ONE. What makes you think he can get one passed as President when as a Senator he has not.

Beammeupscotty.... you make it easy to punch holes in your ridiculous statements. Historically, Kennedy is the president associated with getting us fully involved with Vietnam, that's fairly common knowledge. Vietnam began heading into chaos during Eisenhower's administration of which he sent in a handful of troops to train foreign troops, something that had to be done. Kennedy took it from there and eventually ordered in more than 16,000 troops. Here are two other of Kennedy's wonderful accomplishments, his failure at the Bay of Pigs and the building of the Berlin Wall. Thank God for Ronald Reagan.

swapmeet: Who cares what the Bible says? Our institutions of government are secular. They were founded that way and hopefully will stay that way. The Bible is as anti-life as any document out there. It legitimizes slavery, mass murder, mass rape, infanticide and a host of other atrocities in the name of God. The only government advocated in the Bible was a monarchy ruled by murderers, adulterers, perverts and liars. Thomas Paine, one of America's Founding Fathers, said that God's holy reputation must be defended against the slander of the Bible. (Read "The Age of Reason" by Thomas Paine)

No offense taken unclered. As God told Samuel, "they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them." I'm just saying that as a born-again biblicist, I just can't go against God's direct commands and support anyone who is pro-gay marriage and pro-death. As for the established monarchy you speak of in the Bible, God warned the people that if they desired Saul to be king over them instead of Himself, they would face many hardships, and as you said, it came to fruition. All the other things you spoke of was in the Old Testament. That proved that people could not live up to the Law. Jesus fulfilled the law in the New Testament and look at those people who walked with God: Peter, John, Paul, Stephen. They were full of love and compassion toward all. That's where I hope we all will get one day. Making Jesus Lord of our lives and living as He did. Not compromising what is right but loving with compassion while we stand for truth. I appreciate the dialogue, unclered. Hope you have a good rest of the day.

Since we're so off-topic already... If the Pentagon AND Fox News say it, maybe some of you will finally believe it?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,3367...

WASHINGTON — A forthcoming Pentagon study has found no operational link between Saddam Hussein and Usama bin Laden's Al Qaeda terrorist network.

McClatchy Newspapers reports that the study, expected to be released later this week, is based on an extensive review of more than 600,000 Iraqi documents that were seized after the U.S.-led war in Iraq in 2003.

Sponsored by the Pentagon, the report found no "direct operational link" between Saddam's government in Iraq and bin Laden's Al Qaeda terror ring before the U.S. invasion, an official told McClatchy.

It's okay ijohnson, I still like you :) Politics just brings out the worst in people and poliiticians just love to play on this.

From my point of view, all this squabbling over the federal government is not necessary, we don't even need the federal government. It is redundant in the same way city and county government are redundant in Adams county. We would be much better off with fifty independent state governments and fifty independent state banks than we are with this megolithic federal beauracracy hanging over us all.

The Soviet Socialist Republic collapsed and several of the Soviet States that gained their independence are much better off now than before. Hopefully our federal government will also collapse and we can reap similar benefits. Baton Rouge and Jackson are a lot closer than Washington D.C. which puts them in easier reach of the pitchforks and bludgeons of the people when things go wrong.

Last year Belgium was left without a federal government due to some election problems and the country functioned just fine without a government in place.

McCain on immigration issues: Increase the number of visas issued for agricultural workers. Relax restrictions barring legal immigrants from using social programs (e.g. public housing, food stamps).
Supports amnesty/permanent legalization for illegal aliens and temporary legalization for illegal aiens as guest-workers.

Obama on immigration issues: Supports amnesty/permanent legalization for illegal aliens and temporary legalization for illegal aiens as guestworkers. He would toughen penalties for employers who hire illegal immigrants and create a system to verify employment eligibility.

Clinton on immigration issues: Supports amnesty/permanent legalization for illegal aliens and temporary legalization for illegal aiens as guest-workers. Supports agricultural jobs program; opposes guest-worker program that can lower wages of American workers or exploit immigrants.

Wow! I need hip boots just to get in the door in this room. As far as I can tell the current Republican President spends the majority of our hard-earned tax dollars on the war. How much more proof do you need?

I have a good plan redusmfan, but it is not a national one. Let all the states decide whether they want immigrants or not. Some might need them. Get rid of ICE, and let the local sheriffs and the state militias enforce each state's preference. Why do we need a national policy? None of us live in more than one state.

((freedom42)), thanks for the compliment for I was just being me. However, you have my statement wrong, as usual. Here is what I said, word-for-word:

I like notfrom! He and I are friends, with different view points. That is something you know nothing about, because you cannot let anyone have a different view. As far as kissingup - what in the world are you talking about? That was a private joke between us. And just for the record, who is the "our" in our will?

ijohnson--you have tried to shove religion down my throat and have throw the bible at me. So stop lying and making yourself come across as holier than though.

And another thing...you call Freedom a racist because of so called kissing up...does that mean you are calling me a racist?

I wish we could have a state decision on immigration. Back in the 90's California decided to do away with benefits from the state for illegal immigrants. The Mighty 9 decided that they could not do that on a state level, that all those decisions had to come from on high. What the mighty 9 really meant is that they were going to decide the issue. Last I heard, they are still trying to decide because they must not have done anything about it since I saw some illegals in Wal-Mart just 2 days ago.

These are the same 9 that can not determine what the definition of pornography should be.They can define child porn, which I thank the Lord that they defined it, but they can not define porn beyond that.

I am talking about the supreme court of the USA.

Illegals?
Who SAYS it can't be done?

PRESIDENTS HOOVER & EISENHOWER DEPORTED MILLIONS OF ILLEGALS!

Here is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around. I didn't know of this until it was pointed out to me. But, back during the Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of all illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work.

And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 1.3 million Mexican nationals! The program was called "Operation "Wetback" so that American WWII and Korean veterans had a better chance at jobs. It took 2 years, but they deported them!

Now, if they could deport the illegals back then, they can sure do it today!! If you have doubts about the veracity of this information, enter Operation Wetback into your favorite search engine and confirm it for yourself.

Reminder.. Don't forget to pay your taxes... 12 million illegal aliens are depending on you!

OK! Did anyone go to this site?

ijohnson, you are so funny! You make my day! The seven deadly sins (also known as cardinal sins) are:
gluttony, greed, lust, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride.
You keep accusing me of envy, but I don't know why. I would guess your deadly sins are wrath and pride. Just a guess from the tone and words of your posts. But I do show a little wrath sometimes too.
red, how did you know they are illegals? I have seen lots of Mexicans in the Wallyworld here lately, but it never crossed my mind they were illegals - I thought they were part of the construction crews here.

Hats off to the best man/woman who should happen to come out on top in this election. If either Clinton or Obama wins, history will still be made. I am for the person who will make a change in the nasty america it has become under the direction of Republicans. Therefore, if a Democrat should happen to win, just try your best to make at least a little improvement on circumstances at hand, because it will take a miracle to straighten out the mess that has been created.

Posted by Krogers (anonymous) on March 11, 2008 at 9:04 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I know what's wrong with jjohnson - black history month is over so he doesn't have anything to brag about!!

and I'm quivering in fear having to face the consequences of my comments - NOT - I don't understand your threat, but I'm certainly not running. If you say I should be afraid of the democrats, well I have to agree with you there, not out of personal suffering, but for the damage to our country that might occur. That would tend to back up my belief that the democrats are BAD. But look out YOU will probably suffer more than me. It will be the working class that will ultimately suffer the most from an economy that will be devestated. Well I take that back, from all the time you have on your hands pestering people with your nonsense on this blog you obviously don't work. But I'm not worried too much, 4 years is all that the country will put up with more democratic foolishness, Republicans will soon have the Congress and the White House back. Then we'll straighten this country out and cut your welfare and put you back to work , then you'll be happy because you'll have something to be proud of - a decent bank account and a chance to earn a decent living.

rangerover - I thought you were confused, but I was wrong, you are totally stupid!! Who would wear a FROG HAIR shirt?Frogs don't even have hair, I've never heard anything so stupid in my life! Like an eaglefur coat, or a pair of deerscale boots, there is NO SUCH THING.

rangerover you better go check your back door , Mexicans are trying to smuggle some weed in for you, that's the only thing I can figure out about you. You talk so weird because you've got something going on with those Mexicans, I guess I would want a froghair shirt too if I was stoned enough. Explains how you got rich too.

Anyway- back on point - I have to give jjohnson credit he finally mentioned one issue and policy for that issue from each candidate. After all this dialogue, after all the issues I discussed, after all his BS, he finally got around to talking issues. Thing is he got it wrong. McCain like all Republicans wants to STOP the illegal immigration, that is the main issue concerning illegal immigation - anyone with any sense and respect for law and order in this country wants it STOPPED and NOW. How to deal with those illegals that are here is a little more complicated, I know I want them deported. The ones in jail need to be shipped out and dumped in the ocean and they can swim back to Mexico for all I care. But there are some here that could be good citizens I think. I know a lot of Mexicans in Houston that are good people and work hard. There are a lot of Mexicans doing work around Natchez, who knows if they are legal or not. As for Hillary and Obama, well according to jjohnson they don't care if the illegal immigration is stopped or not, just what to do with the ones we have already. hhmmm.............

I want to ask any of you Democrats on this forum a question. It looks like 90% of blacks voted for Obama. 75% of whites voted for Clinton. Do you believe there is a polarization of race over this nomination, and if so, do you think this, along with Florida/Michigan and superdelegates, could cause a fracture that will lead to the DNC in Denver this summer?

PS I will probably pose this question on other articles tommorrow in case you see it again. I'm just real interested in this whole political process.

Mike 8427, you sound familiar to me, did we go to school together? I graduated South in 84.....what about you?

I was in the Army, but was EPTS'ed because I have occupational hearing Loss. I lost 70% in my left ear and 41% in my right ear. So, I did not qualify under those standards to be in the Army. I scored 96 on the ASVAB. I wanted to go in and do my duty to my country.

Anyways, have a good nights sleep.

Krogers, you are preaching to the choir here.

Swapmeet, you sound alright to me. Where have you been while Krogers and I have been getting bashed by a whole lot of democrats for anything we say positive about McCain? We need all the help we can get...lol...

Thnx red. I am an independent because I am a conservative who doesn't believe either party represents my beliefs. I will be voting for McCain although he's not very conservative on a lot of issues. He's more conservative to me than either of the democratic hopefuls. I almost decided not to vote in the general election so as to voice my displeasure with the republican party but I don't believe my conscious will allow me to do so.

I had the opportunity to actually participate in the rally held at JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY. I stood in line from 2pm til 430pm, with thousands of individuals who represented old, young, black, white, yellow, brown, and red. Sen. Obama spoke on the issues that furthered my mind to him..Education...Teachers....War.....Healthcare..Gas Prices...Katrina...Job Security...These are the issues and YES he does have a plan to help THE AMERICAN PEOPLE not the RICH INDIVIDUALS OR THE ONE'S WHO THINK THEY ARE RICH. Lets stray away from the color issue and deal with the real issues.. As quoted indirectly by Rev. Lowery...We are in a time where the Brown are still around, the Black won't sit back, the Yellow will be mellow, and the White will be alright.. So can we all be alright and move for a Change...
Oh, also.....that was my mom who gave the enlightened comment from the article....Good job...Mrs. Rosa Johnson...

I did my duty today and voted and regardless to what anyone thinks I voted against a female president. In a time where our country is in peril from a part off the earth that is so backward in their reasoning and females are no more than dogs its just not a good idea to risk having a female in charge. Its not that I dislike female gender and by the way I love dogs, very noble companions, just that every bit of advantage should be exercised.

Hey wiseguy, I have often thought that myself, but nobody else ever brought it up. That is one reason we are having so much trouble communicating with the Middle East people, we have female sec. of state. And while I think the world of Condeleeza Rice (Madeline whats her name was worthless), I think it is a mistake to expect them to listen to a woman. I have nothing against women either since I am one - lol. And I have 5 dogs so I love them too! Have a good night all.

krjjsu,

I didn't mean to offend you. I'm an independent and have been really fascinated watching both sides nominating process. I just know that exit returns show that 90% of blacks voted for Obama and 75% of whites voted for Clinton which shows are overwhelmingly clear dividing line between races. I'm like you in the fact that it shouldn't be that way, but it is what it is. In exit polls, 40% of blacks said race was a factor with 25% of whites saying race was a factor. I wouldn't dare admit that even if it was true so think of how many people answered that question "no" when they really thought "yes". Even Juan Williams from National Public Radio who leans democrat said this Mississippi Primary was split by color. It's just sad to me that Mississippi voted so divisively on color.

Spin it, spin it . . . spin it!!!!! When Blacks vote for Obama, it is called "divided on race" and "split by color". However, when Blacks overwhelming supported Bill Clinton, it was called "support among Black voters".

These racial distractions are getting tiresome. Voters of ALL races are voting for Obama because they believe that he is the best candidate for the Presidency. Personally, I think that it's a real slap in the face to his overwhelming white supporters in Wyoming, North Dakota, Utah, Alaska, Nebraska, Maine, Vermont and Iowa to imply that he is where he is because of the Black voters. I am a proud supporter of Senator Obama because I feel he is the best candidate on the ticket.

I think these labels are divisive and not indicative of what is truly driving the momentum behind his campaign. Yes, I'm very aware of the fact that the deep South still lives and there are those who would vote for the town drunk before they would cast a vote that would put a Black man in the White House. Thank God, Obama captures a sizeable number of intelligent, upwardly mobile voters who outnumber the narrow-minded few.

His presidency would be great for America -- maybe we can heal some of these racial divides with him at the helm. Heck, I can't think of a more qualified person who would be more qualified to do it being that he is bi-racial. He does not tout his Blackness nor his Whiteness. Nor does he inject race in his messages. I think he would be a positive force for change in America and the world.

Obama looks more white than black to me, unless you use that 1/32 rule.

Even his Harvard-taught wife is better educated than the Republican base in Mississippi. Unless you count that God-feerin', hatin' them Big Spender Democrats, God-is-on-our-side wisdom that so many of de white folks in this state think makes us so special and wise.

I'm white and I have been here a long time. I have the guts to say that 30 years ago this same sector of society that is Mississippi's GOP would be more sympathetic to the Klan than they are to today's Democratic Party.

If it wasn't for the feds coming down here and puttin their foot down maybe it would still be that way -- we still seem to be on the bottom of so many lists otherwise. Even the present governor's sucesses seem to depend on Big Government money coming from Washington.

I think the GOP rank and file in this state is pretty dumb to still be using their old rhetoric against Democrats but failed to notice that the GOP just spent us in the hole bigger than anyone in history. At least the DEMS are poorer liars.

George Bush made a fool of the Mississippi majority that voted him in, and pushed the GOP so far to the left out of revulsion that McCain is the most conservative thing the GOP could come up with.

Who is really dumb? Not Obama. Bush? Bush's supporters and folks that want more of the same from the next president?
