Supervisors tested at every turn
Published Wednesday, March 12, 2008
If a test of one’s mettle is made in a trial by fire, the Adams County Board of Supervisors is certainly being tested at the moment.
A little over three months into the new year and the board has:
4Fired the county attorney, then rehired him.
4Discovered that the county-owned hospital is in debt up to its eyeballs and been asked to provide tax support for it.
4Found the infamous missing front-end loader really had only existed for several years on paper, having been sold at auction years before.
In the latest little adventure, a mineral rights dispute may delay the much-ballyhooed Rentech project, tangling up what’s been touted as a potentially billion-dollar investment.
Rentech’s plans have been, and continue to be, speculative, meaning the company must raise investment capital to make it happen.
Rentech has, company leaders believe, invented a new process to turn coal into liquid fuel. The Germans actually invented the process, but Rentech says it has perfected it.
So they have a better mousetrap, just not enough money to build the mousetrap manufacturing plant.
With petroleum oil costs constantly dancing near or surpassing record prices, the likelihood that Rentech’s perfume will soon capture a suitor improves daily.
Is it a bit of a long shot?
Sure. But despite rumors to the contrary, the county hasn’t bought the IP land yet, and they’ve mostly only spent legal fees in trying to get the land sold to Rentech.
Does the massive potential economic impact continue to outweigh the apparent minimal risks?
We think so.
Hopefully, the supervisors will have the internal mettle to help the project keep churning ahead, despite the constant blasts of fire lapping at them.

Our County Board of Supervisors are tried and true when it comes to good management and hard work! They are to be commended for a good job under many different trials and tribulations!

rushinghjr-what is difference between the trials and tribulations of the Board of Supervisors, the trials and tribulations of the Mayor and the trials and tribulations of the Supervisor of Schools? All of these people have chosen to serve to the public. Sometimes we have a different view of those we know personally. The positive comment is much appreciated.

I have to say that the few I know have worked hard. Spanky worked hard to find out how the county could misplace a front-end loader. They are doing the best they can with the situation at hand.
But they do not need to give up on trying to bring more industry to the area. The prison is a good decision and they need more industry like it.

I'll stand behind my vote any day of the week, for I feel I helped put a good hard worker in office to take care of the needs of Ntz/AC. The newly elected will fight for us all the way. They are building a new and better future for Natchez. Give'em a pat on the back when you see them and encourage them to continue in their fight. That little pat will mean so much to them. Thanks N.D. for the article.

I feel certain our supervisors will rise to the challenge
oh on a different subject--
did anyone watch the joint meeting of mayor, county supers, city aldermen, school board, and the committee for better public schools?
I was wondering if anybody had any feelings to share about how that meeting went
To me - I saw the end of the meeting as the Mayor was going on and on about executive session and was talking a lot of bull about how no one knew everything, it seemed to me that his bucket was really full of it. That man can waste a lot of time saying NOTHING. I was proud of Ricky Gray (he is not my alderman, but seemed to me he was trying to get to the bottom of things concerning some reports of the school's ratings for the past few years) and Dr. Edney (I believe it was him, the TV did not turn to him, but it seemed like his voice on the audio) was arguing back at Gray concerning the reports and it seemed to me that Edney was being a bit confrontational to Gray, which I don't appreciate and I think that Edney's attitude is not one of IMPROVEMENT, but of stalling and attempting to blow smoke and create confusion of what to do to actually improve the schools. Edney needs to pack up and get out of the way of improving the schools. Edney is a barrier to improvement with all his bull.
I know I will NOT vote for West come May!!! As he has NOT shown any initiative until push has come to shove on the school issue, and he has NOT come out in FULL SUPPORT of his constituents - the Committee for Better Public Schools and the rest of all reasonable people in Adams Co and Natchez, who are sick and tired of the sorry schools we have. That and the fact that West will NOT return a phone call.

Kroger,
Your group members are not the only constituents represented by West. West is also my mayor! The idea that he should do want your group demands and the rest of us don’t count is not reasonable. Again, West is our mayor not our school board member. What do you want him to do? You mentioned Dr. Morris and Dr. Edney in your postings neither answers to West. Morris and Edney are well respected. Just because you’re small group has conducted mean spirited attacks on both of these men, don’t expect the rest of the city to go along with you. Does Morris have children? If so, if you really care about children why would you inflect his children with these public attacks? Do they live in the city? Do you not care what they read and see? You may say that is the Morris’ responsibility and that would be the point. It takes a village. We all need to roll up our sleeves and help the school system. Sitting and blaming others like West is not productive.

Until the Board of Supervisors is properly motivated they wont do anything but but talk about it. Lets fire ther sorry asses and tell our city goverment what to do and make them realize that they employees to the public opinion.

The Board of Supervisors can never be fired "as such" because they were never hired!
