Published Sunday, March 16, 2008

MCCOMB (AP) — A 2-year-old Kentwood, La., boy has drowned after falling into a pond.

Samuel Patterson III was visiting Mississippi relatives Thursday afternoon when he wandered away from their home.

Authorities say family members noticed he was missing after a few minutes and later found him floating in a nearby pond.

Samuel was taken to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center where he died in the emergency room.

Well JDR, I am sure the parents or guardians are hurting enough without being told that.
They know all too well they should have watched the child much closer.
This is too sad.
I always used a had leash at gatherings with my child. We were connected at the wrist!
People made fun of me, but at least I keep ny baby safe.

My deepest sympathies to the family.

That was totally uncalled for JDR! Kids can get away so fast, and yes they need to be watched closely. But sometimes you think someone is watching when they think you are watching. This is so sad, and I pray for the family involved.

My prayers are with them. It is easy to place blame, but does no good!!! I feel for the family that is going through such a tragic loss, especially the grandparents. I think it is harder on a grandparent than it is the parent because they have to not only have the loss, but see their own child suffer, too.

I feel for this family so much. Terrible situation!

I'll tell you what I absolutely despise...having a get-together and the folks who bring their kids expect YOU to watch over their kids while they enjoy themselves. We probably all know a family who does that. I'm not saying this is the case in this story, but it happened to me yesterday and I am tired today.

I agree that the family doesn't need to be told that they should have been watching their child. I'm sure they will be blaming themselves for the next fifty years or so without others telling them. I just pray for the family and that God will comfort them during their time of grief.

please do not blame the parents.my daughter and nephew was killed in a automobile accident on july 4,2007 in natchez. people were blaming me because she was riding with older boys, she was only catching a ride home with her cousin and i knew where she was and i did not have a problem .I trusted her to maje the right decision. The driver of the truck was the one that made the decision to drive fast and lose control of the truck. I miss them terribly.

speeding driver now? I think maybe his name is Cody.

My heart breaks for the family of the drowned child.

Remember the child who drowned in a drainage ditch in Vidalia a month ago? People were saying the same horrible things then. I know the parents are feeling guilty, I know I would. Peace be to you all, know that it is God who will get you through this.

dottie,we had court last week and cody will spend time in prison. how much, we will know next week. I wish this nightmare wouldnt have happened, but it did and he chose to drive wrecklessly and killed my daughter, nick and justin. If only he would have stopped the truck things would be different. his mom wouldnt be visiting him in prison and i wouldnt be going to the cematary everyday visiting kristin and justin.

naturegirl, I read in the democrat that those parents were arrested, not long after their child drowned, for disturbing the peace. Recently, I overheard that they may still be in jail. I won't go into the details.

I don't know the pain any of you feel, but I just
imagine it and it makes me cry. One can only wonder
if the hurt will ever be less painful. God bless.

IT REALLY BREAKS MY HEART TO SEE SO MANY PEOPLE MAKING COMMENTS AND BLAME ON SOMEONES DEATH. WE ALL ARE HERE ON BORROWED TIME FROM THE LORD, HE TAKES YOU BACK WHEN HE WANTS YOU! SOMETIMES IT IS A FAULT OF SOMEONE ELSE, BUT THEY ALL HAVE FAMILY TOO. BUT SOME OF THESE COMMENTS ARE VERY FULL OF HATRED. THINK ABOUT IT BEING YOU --- I DID! I CAN'T IMAGINE LOSING MY 2 YR OLD, BUT THEY ARE LIKE LIGHTING AND AWAY FROM YOU IN A SECOND. JUST SAY A PRAYER FOR THIS FAMILY - WHETHER AT FAULT OR NOT - THEY ALSO NEED A PRAYER.

I remember the accident that happen on July 4, 2007.
It was a bunch of kids at the bar In The Mix and they were fighting with some more people and the chase was on. I knew Nick and was friends with his mom, I hate that it ended in a tragedy but when you are drunk, you do stupid stuff. They driver should of made a better choice than what he did but they were all in it together, so I feel it was not only the driver's fault, but all of theirs. I hate that Nick, Kristen and Justin died and my prayers go to the families. But the driver should not have all the blame on him, they were all drunk and fighting. If they hadn't of run from the fight the cops would not of chased them causing them to wreck.

Oh well, southern_bell, don't you know you aren't suppose to think with both side's of your brain. Some people won't like that comment. I learned and am forever humble.
