Winds of up to 35 mph hit area

NATCHEZ — An eastbound low-pressure system was responsible for strong winds that rushed through the Miss-Lou Tuesday.
The low-pressure system, located over east Texas Tuesday afternoon sent wind gusts of 30-35 miles per hour and sustained winds of 20-25 miles per hour through the Miss-Lou, National Weather Service Meteorologist Ashley Wester said.

Traffic speeds by like the winds that peeled back the roofing on the former Stine building on U.S. 61 North Tuesday afternoon.
The pressure decrease brought high speed wind fields from higher up in the atmosphere closer to the surface, where we are more likely to see their effects, Wester said.
The weather service had already seen some damage in Louisiana — mostly weak trees falling — by Thursday afternoon, and expected to see similar effects until the storm’s squall line passed the area Tuesday night, Wester said.
“The main thing we are going to be looking for is strong winds,” she said.
Power to parts of southern Adams County was knocked out Tuesday afternoon, but an official from the Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association said it would be restored by 8 p.m. Tuesday.

30 mph my foot. We had gust of 50. I was at Wal-mart an saw hundreds of what looked like long haired rats running across the parking lot, then I realized they were little hair hats. (man wigs)

I can't believe the picture of the little boy. Maybe it's the angle of the photo, but it looks like his parents would not have let him be walking under all those wires & fallen pole.

What did I miss about the Cauthen wreck that got the comments kicked off? What's controversial about 4 men going hunting? I could understand it not being newsworthy but the news (though cryptic) is still there. Only the comments are gone.

I'm with you dixie...and 4 years old?
I had heard yesterday on the weather channel we would be getting 80 mph winds.....WAY stronger than 35 like the Democrat is saying. AND would 35 peel this roof off and uplift a huge tree? NO because we get those all the time.

Most of the times we find out more from the comments posted than the article itself. Why be able to post comments if they are going to be disabled?

I was driving across the bridge towards Natchez yesterday evening. The wind was so strong that is shifted my Blazer from the the right lane into the left. I had to grip my steering wheel to keep control of my truck. I have never been that scared before. My prayer eased me through it.
