New casino groundbreaking pushed back to end of April
Published Thursday, March 27, 2008
NATCHEZ — The Roth Hill Casino will break ground on April 23, not at the end of this month as was last reported.
President of Natchez Enterprises Ted Doody said the delay is due to a permit from the Corps of Engineers that hasn’t yet been received.
After the Mississippi Gaming Commission granted unanimous approval of the company’s site plan, the permit from the corps is the only step left.
Once the company receives the permit, they will be able to move forward, Doody has said.
Doody said the April 23 groundbreaking is meant to correlate with the grand opening, ribbon-cutting event Country Inn and Suites is planning.
In the March 11 aldermen meeting, the board made a resolution to amend a bill to extend the lease casino’s land.
The extension from 50 to 99 years would amend a bill from 2001.
In the city’s initial negotiations with the Lane Company, the city agreed to the company’s request to extend the lease.
The resolution now must go to the legislature for approval.
Doody has said the completion date for the casino has been projected for the summer of 2009.
The two-story, 40,000 square-foot casino and will offer two restaurants, a bar and lounge and an outdoor entertainment and dining section.
It will be partially on land with the rest suspended over the water.
The company originally wanted the casino to be strictly on land, but Mississippi Gaming Commission requirements mandate that a portion of the casino be over water.
Building a park with such amenities as walkways, gardens and water features is also in the plans for the casino.
The park has become part of the Natchez Trails project.
The construction of the entire project, hotel and park, will be around $50 million.

I realize that this is not the place but I did call the police also . If anyone knows who owns the 6 brown horses in pasture off Fisk avenue in Natchez please check on your animals . I saw 5 Natchez high students with pellets guns shooting and chasing those horses . Those retarded kids are going to seriously injure those horses . The pasture is across the street from what used to be a skating rink years ago . Its in the blue bird neighborhood, fidelity tire company is there also . There's a trailer park right in front of the horse pasture ( what used to be the Burns furniture store also ) . Anyone reading this and knows the owners of those animals please call him .

I hope they decide against building the casino. Casinos drain the economy and increase crime rate.
