Choir, Borum top good news

Published Monday, March 31, 2008

Even the Mississippi River knows this is the place to be.

The waters, the highest they’ve been in a few years, are edging closer and closer into the Miss-Lou — on both sides — each day.

But lucky for most of us, not much is in real danger of flooding. We’ve been able to carry on with our lives regardless of the waters, and the Miss-Lou has made some good news along the way.

4Good news and good sounds regularly echo from the walls of the Natchez High School choir room. The students and their teacher — Joyce Mathis — have been stars in these parts and beyond for years. So it is no surprise that Alethea Stewart, Edwin Smith and Tremaine Ford have been selected as the newest members of the Mississippi American Choral Directors Association All-State Honor Choir. And even though it is news we are used to hearing, it is not any less sweet for our ears.

4Just as always, Native Americans filled Natchez this weekend sharing their culture, sounds and wares at the annual Natchez Powwow. But this year, the city made the event extra special by honoring Dr. Chuck Borum for his years of service in making the powwow happen. Dr. Borum is worthy of the honor and we, too, thank him for his work.

Yes, the Miss-Lou is the place to be — especially in the spring — but let’s hope the Mississippi River realizes that it’s come close enough. As the waters head on south, we know the good news will keep coming, floods or not.

WOW... it amazes me how optimistic some people are!!! (Sarcasm) I personally am quite proud of the choir students as well as Dr. Borum.... Good things DO happen in Natchez.... You should be proud of them, rather than kill it with sarcastic remarks, that don't matter anyway.... Congratulations to Dr. Borum and the students!!!!

I appreciate this, (((darlysings))). To me, this is "music to my ears" today. I needed to read this article and feel grateful we have some talented kids and a well-loved and dedicated organizer being recognized for their efforts right here in our area. Congratulations to everyone!!!
