Barbour sets dates for 2 Wilkinson Co. elections
Published Thursday, April 3, 2008
JACKSON (AP) — Gov. Haley Barbour has set dates for two Wilkinson County special elections.
Barbour set the elections in accordance with a circuit court ruling. A special Democratic primary election to select nominees for District 2 supervisor, sheriff and circuit clerk will be held June 24.
The winners will appear on the ballot in a special general election set for July 22.
Judge Jim Persons ruled the special elections were needed in February after he threw out absentee, affidavit or curbside ballots from the Aug. 7 primary because it could not be determined they had been kept safe from tampering.
Persons has been hearing a challenge to the primary results from Circuit Clerk Mon Cree Allen, Sheriff Reginald Jackson and Supervisor Richard Hollins. All lost in August.
