Woman allegedy brings drugs in prison

Published Tuesday, April 15, 2008

VIDALIA — A Lafayette woman was arrested after allegedly taking drugs into a parish prison.

Letha S. Cooper, 27, 102 Sweetbriar St., Apt. B, Lafayette, was arrested Sunday on charges of distribution of marijuana, introduction of contraband into a penal institution and felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Cooper was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia Monday.

Concordia Parish Narcotics Task Force Commander Lt. Greg Jackson first arrested Cooper after she was allegedly caught taking marijuana to an inmate at Concordia Parish Correctional Facility, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kathleen Stevens said.

Officers also reportedly found marijuana in Cooper’s vehicle in the CPCF parking lot.

Cooper is currently being detained on a $50,700 bond.

Wow! She is dumb and bold. How do you go to visit and end up staying? I just want to know...what was she thinking?

I'll never understand what would make someone bring drugs into a penal institution i mean it just escapes me.

She thought it was Oregano. It was an honest mistake. The parish serves the blandest pasti you ever ate. She only wanted to spice things up. Give her a break for God's sake!

Amazingly, the chaps in prison always get a weak woman, to bring their drugs and other contraband to prison. I have never understood what goes on in the head of a person who wakes up one day and says, you know, I think I will take those drugs to the prison, but one things for sure, like everyone is stating, she is not to bright.

I agree Teach4Peace. Life is full of choices. This is just the WORST choice a person could make. Help be a part of the solution, not the problem. Think before you react.

Hey ijohnson! I agree completely with your statement '"stupid is as stupid does!" Holy moly what a moran! She deserves a nice long visit in that prison now.

Oooops. I guess that was an error in judgement.

Now the taxpayers can pay her health care, room and board, the rest of her hopes as a productive citizen will fragment at least for a while, and there unfortunately will be another guard or dumb young girl who will try to do what she did.

This girl needs an education. If all she gets is educated in skills by the other convicts, then that will be another expensive error in judgement. Oooops.

But ultimately, the people pay for stupidity now, don't we? What will the bill be on this girl? $100,000? $300,000? Oooops.

I guess the tax payers get to pay her way now. If our laws do not get tougher, we will eventually end up broke.

My guess is this woman was just dumb enough to empty her pockets and it fell out on the floor. I really don't believe that ANY of the correction officers do the job they are paid to do. That is just DUMB luck that they caught this woman.

What's really sad about this is the fact that she had three kids with her at the time. Now those kids will have to go to foster care.

Good,Good Good, outside civillians don't know what effect this type of behaviour has on staff that works in a prison.Drugs and alcohol can lead an inmate to attack an employee or worse, lead to a riot where serious injuries or death can occur.OUTSTANDING JOB CPSO

Suddenly, I feel a lot more intelligent than I did prior to reading this article. Some women are dumb, but some women are really dumb.

Speaking of dumb, this is gossip so you may not want to read it, lol...a woman started writing this guy in prison (she had never met), then began going to visit him, next she was sending him her welfare money, losing weight, and planning the big day. Everybody needs love and love makes people do dumb things.

Well I figure she knew exactley what she was doing. And was not dumb or stupid,, just got caught. Make a example out of her. Since taxes will pay her way from now on. Slap her jail for about 30 years. And make a poster child out of her for the next one that tries it. Face it, slapping them on the hand doesn't work. There are so many criminals, because the cost is so low. Think about it. If there were 10 people in jail for 50 years. Or 50 people in jail for one year. Don't you think they would get the message. I think some would keep their nose clean. If they were facing 50 years.
And all death penalties should be carried out immediately. Let them appeal one time. If they lose the case again. Flip the switch.

Whisper I think your post was just about as dumb as they come. Your plan would bankrupt the country.

We already have more people in jail per capita than any other industrialized nation, and it doesn't appear to be working yet to bring up IQ scores. What, you'd like to shoot for even more people in jail? Like they really get smarter there or their friends on the outside change their ways?

On the one hand there are welfare folks who want Big Government to get bigger for their income purposes. On the other hand there is the crime and punishment crowd that has supreme faith in the government's jailing people the too-often-crooked legislature thinks are a bad influence -- master criminal Martha Stewart comes to mind. We might need both welfare and jails but neither is a good solution to dumb choices. Both the welfare crowd and the jail-em-all crowd are for Big Government and both want everyone else to pay for it.

This woman needs some help and jail is almost certainly the best start. But making her into a million dollar project so you can intimidate other dumb folks -- well dumb folks don't listen very well. What's another million dollars if you don't pay for it all, huh?

And anybody that thinks we should carry out death sentences immediately with all the DNA evidence reversing verdicts from the past might be more comfortable in Communist China. Where life is cheap!

Government is just not that infallible. But I don't think anyone but her children would suggest this woman shouldn't be punished for her crime.
